Help a noob out

I an currently playing NWN and started fighting the mini-bosses in Beggar's Nest and my weapon attacks had no effect. I had to use magic and my henchmen did most of the damage. Is there a reason that my attacks were ineffective? I'm a level 2 Ranger/level 1 Sorcerer.

I'd suggest going up a level or maybe trying another region first. I recall the Beggar;s Nest being tougher than the others.

Yes, the game sort of hints that you should try the Peninsula District and the prison first. It's a bit easier, although there are still two or three tough battles there, and I think you come out of that with at least one +1 weapon.

Theres a spell that grants protection from +1 weapons or less. I don't think the human bosses are immune. The undead gang is though.
