Source does not rule, it's a fairly poor engine. End of.

Total garbage. Explain why do you think it's a poor engine? Have you worked with it?

I think that I may have been, a little overzealous when I said it was a poor engine.

I was simply being lazy.

It isn't a bad engine in any way shape or form. I've played a bunch of Source Engine games, and I've enjoied them.

So it wasn't a comment intended to do with the result of games made with said engine.

I'll come back to it when I have more time, but I believe it was a smart decision on obsidians part to choose the Unreal 3 engine if that is the engine they have chosen to use.

Naturally only obsidian could say why they have chosen what engine they're using.

I can imagine it's mainly because the UE3 also runs on X360 and PS3 hardware, while Source is currently only available for the PC (and X360 soon).

Actually, it's already available on the Xbox. :sorcerer:

Originally available only for Windows-based personal computers, the game has since been ported onto the Xbox console, and is also due to be released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2007. Half-Life 2: Episode Two pushed to 2007? Gamespot

Nope, there's the standard warrior type.

The drone type.

The runner type.

the Praetorian type.

The queen.

I'm hoping they explore different types... like... what if a facehugger latched onto a rhino-like creature.  :sorcerer:

Praetorian? They got Roman aliens now?

The queen rules.

I'm fairly certain it's not that simple, I would honestly like a dev to comment as to why, but naturally that is unlikely.

If it's to be known, it'll come out at some point. I don't see much point in going over to NWN2's forums to ask about this game...

Not really. The graphics in Bloodlines and Half Life 2 kick ass.

Back on topic. Was the platform ever been said what Aliens is on?

But the streets in the real LA are usually broader, and in the game many npcs just stand or move a round a few steps, and have no dialogue. V2 had alot more potential which was wasted, but to my dismay that seems to be quite common nowadays.

I would also like to question it

Well the Aliens use a lot of the Genetic code of the original funa so they already from have what they need to survive and hunt when they become a drone/runner.

Aliens are a Hybrid thing or a chimera if you will.

Now a when a Alien slowly survive and learn they tend to become a bit bigger and stronger and a drone would after time become a praetorian.

I think theirs some test thing the Queen does to the drone/runner before they can become a praetorian, but i can for the love of vodka not remember it.

Mix that with a hive mind and you got some very strong critter's.

Still nothing a pulse rifle can't fix.

The use of the term "Praetorian" with aliens is more likely to refer to the Praetorian Guard than to actual praetors, since praetorian aliens typically guard the queen.

I don't know if anyone answered this but can the prime PC be a synthetic human? PLEASE!

An artificial person would make concessions such as no instadeath if you encounter an alien more plausible. You can also more appropriately "heal" by possible repairs and whatnot.

In AvP2 you could find notes scattered around the labs that explained how a regular drone was, at certain point, cast out of the hive and left to fend for itself due to some weird pheromonal interaction. If the drone survived the ordeal, it eventually evolved into a praetorian, and came back to the hive.

Not sure how well established an Alien world fact this is, though, or if the folks designing the new RPG like this explanation and will use it anyway, but I thought it was pretty clever.

we're talking about a video game.. plausability doesn't really come into it. :aiee:

Besides, meeting an alien isn't insta-death.
