Hopefully, no xenomorph will mutate into Nemesis or Milla Jovovich, Gandalf, Locust or some other fad. That would kind of turn me off, but I'm only one guy.

Yuck :)

I agree, that'd utterly suck. :)

Or Superman, though the upside is that Superman would be dead.

Murphy's Law of Computer Gaming: The listed minimum specifications written on the box by the publisher are not the minimum specifications of the game set by the developer.

@\NightandtheShape/@ - "Because you're a bizzare strange deranged human?"

Walsingham- "Sand - always rushing around, stirring up apathy."

Joseph Bulock - "Another headache, courtesy of Sand"

That would mean a xenomorph that gestates in a human being would have the capability of being sentient, while a xenomorph coming from a lower animal species would not.

Or at least Intelligent.... the two aren't really the same. :)

And they did cut the power after all. :)"

Well the CGI Alien in Alien 3 looked rather dumb. Those in Ressurection were a little better (the one that crawled into the escape pot), but didn't quite matched the movements of the human puppets/robotic versions.

Oh, one other important question for Josh: Does Obsidian have an in-house SoundFX team? Don't underestimate the the usage of properly placed sound sources in the levels, it's an incredibly powerful tool to create suspense. I'm also wondering who will be chosen as music composer?

Marc Darell?

Never heard about that guy. :-" What is he credited for?

What do you mean they cut the power? They're animals, man!

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.
Since The Pilot mentioned "Xenomorph," when exactly did it get its name?

When Ripley is giving her debriefing about what happened to the Nostromo, one of the people in the room comments about how it was a species never recorded.  Yet, when they are on the Sulaco, Lt. Gorman says that "We think a Xenomorph may be involved."

It sounded like they already had a term called "Xenomorph" and then just applied it to this new unknown alien, like it was a classification.

Stolen from wiki: "The name is derived from the Greek word for "alien form", and was used by a character in the film Aliens as a euphemism to indicate any nonterrestrial lifeform."

The movement speed and style of the aliens varies from film to film.  In the original Alien, Ridley Scott couldn't have shown the alien move quickly if he wanted to.  The ADI folks told us the alien suit was quite inflexible and heavy.  All of the alien's targets are practically standing still when it takes them out (Brett under the chains, Dallas in the tunnel, Parker and Lambert in the hallway).  In fact, I think the only time you really see the alien walking clearly is in the Narcissus.  Even then it's moving very slowly.

But I don't really take that to mean that aliens have to be slow.  Aliens are described and perceived as incredible predators.  Considering how terribly slow human beings are, it would be sad indeed if aliens were as slow as them.

Well fast movement wouldn't really have fit in with the general "Suspense" horror theme of alien... That said, I always was under the impression that if an alien wanted to move, it could do it alot faster than any human could.

"I'm a programmer at a games company... REET GOOD!" - Me

I'm not sure if AvP(The games) is a canon sort of source material. Apparently, the Aliens there are fast, acrobatic and born to be spiderman wannabes.

I find it strangely fitting.

Gorman used it during the mission briefing in Aliens.

In that context, it seemed to be a generic term used by Colonial Marines to describe any nuisance/pest encountered while attempting to colonize a new world.

In later movies, I think the term was used to identify the species itself. I think it was a misinterpretation of Aliens, but I guess it's now canon.

Nah, they tried that already. Supes just coughed up the little bastard, although not before it gave his inner organs a good workout.

What's all this talk about Supeman? Please stay on-topic people. Oh and when we're at it, I've a question for Corporal Josh:

Tell us about the guns!

Am I safe in assuming that there will be man-portable MG42s that aim themselves, Thompson submachineguns that have underbarrel pump action grenade launchers, placeable sentry guns, and Ithaca 37's for "close encounters?"

And also that movement detecting sonar thing, I hope.

Will we be able to choose android as a PC Race?

Yeah, that's what I figured.

When I first heard Gorman say it, that's the way I took it. As a result, I have always cringed whenever I heard the species referred to as Xenomorph. Was it actually used in one of the movies to describe the actual species?

I'm a huge fan of the universe, but for some reason referring to the Alien as the Xenomorph (rather than A Xenomorph) just strikes me as silly.

just strikes me as silly.

I find it difficult to believe that Joss Whedon wrote Alien 4, but he did, so what can you say.

Say what!? I thought that he just wrote one of the scripts that got canned?

Yep. Shocked me as well. Don't know how much of what he wrote is actually in the film, but the writing credit is his.

Well... since synths are basically uber humans for all intents and purposes and can't be "impregnated", I wouldn't bet on it...

It would be neat though.

This is further supported by the way that conversation is played: "Is this going to be a standup fight, sir, or another bughunt?"

This would seem to hint that Marines are used to dealing with local pests on a somewhat regular basis.

In later movies, I think the term was used to identify the species itself. I think it was a misinterpretation of Aliens, but I guess it's now canon.
Yep. Apparently the name stuck...

I don't think race should matter as long we find ourselves a Power Loader. :D

Screw that, give me the power armour from AvP2 and let me spread death and destruction to everything I see.

Are these like Babelfish translations of the movie or something? At first I thought they were random captions, but they remind me of bad subtitles in translated films :D

I'll take that as a yes.

Because the translation misspelled my name!

Hell yeah!! Bring out the boomstick!
