aVENGER Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 Apparently, they are trying to (over)compensate the lack of climbing/mantling by giving the player an
Llyranor Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 One wonders how good the series was in the first place if removing climbing/mantling/diving was the main thing making it special. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Dark_Raven Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 Ah, the wonders of the bargin bin. It works for me! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is too cool to be in the garbage bin. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
aVENGER Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 One wonders how good the series was in the first place if removing climbing/mantling/diving was the main thing making it special. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Note that one of Gothic's strongest points was the free exploration of its world. By removing climbing, mantling and diving we are robbed of a part of that freedom. As I've already said, the removal of those features probably doesn't have a significant impact on the core gameplay but it does limit some options.
Nick_i_am Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 So it's a ZRPG? (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Llyranor Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 Well, *was*. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Nick_i_am Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 It still has jumping. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Morgoth Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 (edited) Well then everything is still serene. *wipes sweat of the forehead* Edited October 7, 2006 by Morgoth Rain makes everything better.
metadigital Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 It still has jumping. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> quasi-ZRPG. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
Judge Hades Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 It is the diet coke of ZRPG. Just one calorie. Not ZRPG enough.
Dark_Raven Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Tastes great, less filling. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
mkreku Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 One wonders how good the series was in the first place if removing climbing/mantling/diving was the main thing making it special. Who said it was the main thing? Anyhow, removing climbing will make the gameworld seem a lot less.. interactive. Whenever you ran into a problem in the previous Gothic's, you could always improvize. A pack of wolves hunting you? Climb a tree. Having trouble finding your way in town? Climb onto a rooftop for a better view. Tired of solving quests and killing enemies? Go mountain climbing! But, alas, not anymore. Unfortunately, I am a weak creature. I thought of cancelling my preorder and wait for the reviews instead, but I don't seem to be able to do it. It's like my subconscious still has hopes for this buggy, simplified mess of a game. Damnit! And this is what I'll be getting in less than a week's time: http://gothicz.net/index.php?sekce=gothic3...ocument=fotkyce Note the Sleeper medallion. I will wear it day and night!!1 Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!

karka Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 (edited) You know, 'RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS' generally means 'MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS' and 'MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS' means "If you have that system, at least you can see the title screen. Well, maybe..." Edited October 9, 2006 by karka
aVENGER Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Not necessarily, at least not in this case. One of the WoG reviewers reported that the game is quite playable on his A64 3200+, 1GB RAM, GeForce 6600GT at medium details.
mkreku Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Just to give you a sense of what MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS mean: Worst. Graphics. Ever. ) Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Tigranes Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Oblivion didnt look much better on mine till I got it up to 1gb ram. I don't really mind. Let's Play: Icewind Dale Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Icewind Dale II Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Divinity II (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG1 (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG2 (In Progress)
Llyranor Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Yeah, that kinda looks like Oblivion on min settings :D (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Slowtrain Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Did they get the same artists to do the avatar in all three games? Or do they just have a fetish for overly large male upper-bodies? Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.
Dark_Raven Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Did they get the same artists to do the avatar in all three games? Or do they just have a fetish for overly large male upper-bodies? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Heh works for me. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
metadigital Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Did they get the same artists to do the avatar in all three games? Or do they just have a fetish for overly large male upper-bodies? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Those that have it, would feel weird playing without it. Those without it, want it. :D Okay, I agree that they could quite easily have different models for different classes (Magic-Users and Wizards being string-bean ectomorphs and Dwarves and Barbarians being over-sized endomorphs), and even some size variation within the classes, too, such as FAT female characters and even spotty teenage ones. Much like NwN 2 allows! (w00t) OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
mkreku Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?type=mov&id=13949 Neat video showing some of the different fighting styles in Gothic 3. Sounds and looks quite good, even though the narrator has a horrible german accent. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
mkreku Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Two new (german) reviews of Gothic 3, this time of the final retail version: 9.3/10 from Extreme Players: http://www.extreme-players.de/product_revi...?pid=645&aid=pc 9/10 from Eurogamer.de: http://www.eurogamer.de/article.php?article_id=68594 What were the reviewers complaining the most about? Bugs. Gee, what a shocker. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Morgoth Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Sounds good, although I don't think my P4 3ghz and GF6600GT will handle it, even in medium details. And who knows when I'll upgrade.... well, not too soon, so G3 will have to wait. Oh well, there's still NWN2 where I can dress-up my mighty warrior like a barbie doll! Let's hope I can also pick up pink as hair color! Because that's teh ultimate RPG freedom I say people!!!!!1111 Rain makes everything better.
Tigranes Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Of course it is. Let's Play: Icewind Dale Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Icewind Dale II Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Divinity II (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG1 (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG2 (In Progress)
