alanschu Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Dragon Shard would probably be more like Warcraft 3, an RTS that has some RPG elements.
Llyranor Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 Yes, alanschu. I believe that is a good comparison. WC3 has situations where you can lead a smallish party with your hero units. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Dark_Raven Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 (edited) Looking at the screenshots, the graphics are so and so. Not good but not that bad either. Edited September 9, 2006 by Dark_Raven Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Lare Kikkeli Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 it has "quests" as in secondary objectives and experience like every ohter RTS nowadays. it's just a regular RTS WITH A TWIST with a dnd sticker on the box.
Nick_i_am Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Having played this game I can confirm that it's basically like Warcraft 3, being, a straight up RTS with a few RPG elements. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Judge Hades Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 They kind of remind me of the old DnD cartoon. When going through them I half expected a screenshot of Venger popping up.
Llyranor Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 Well, I had only played the demo. I was looking for impressions for someone who had purchased the full version. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)

alanschu Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Yes, alanschu. I believe that is a good comparison. WC3 has situations where you can lead a smallish party with your hero units. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually, Red Alert had similar situations where you just lead a group of soldiers. No buildings, or new units. One of them was cool because you used a spy and had to avoid dogs, and free a whole bunch of prisoners.
Nick_i_am Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Though unlike RA, DS uses 'hero units' which gain levels, and use the core DnD classes, which is what brings in the 'RPG elements'. But it's just a twist on what is otherwise an RTS in building bases/armies, getting resorces and crushing your opponents. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
alanschu Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Fair enough. Just commenting that "missions" with just units in a level isn't really all that new. I would hope it's a bit more in depth than Red Alert's was.
Nick_i_am Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Well, i'm sure that the DnD setting will help that, even if it is an RTS. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Llyranor Posted September 10, 2006 Author Posted September 10, 2006 IIRC, I think just specific units have specific spells, which you can - I think - research to gain higher level spells. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
taks Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 i have dragonshard. it is fair. there are some really cool aspects of the game, but in general, i'm not an RTS fan. in particular, managing large battles is not my forte (first ever RTS), so later in the game things get ugly. what is cool, however, is the dungeon crawling and semi-sort of quest solving. it's done rather well, and dungeons do look cool. definitely the most enjoyable part to me. the loot you find underneath helps you out above, plus there are quests that require a little of both. one day, i will finish it. probably not till after NWN2 passes through my man-cave, however. oh, for $10, i'd buy it even knowing what i know now. it's worth $10 for sure. taks comrade taks... just because.
