Victoria

Given that the (digital distribution only) xpac to this game, Victoria - Revolutions - is coming out on August 17th, I'm looking into getting better impressions on this game.

How user-friendly is it? How complex is the game to get into? The converter to HoI2DD sounds like an awesome feature, and the different focus from HoI2 could be interesting.

For those of you who have it, what do you think about the game? This means you, alanschu.

Wait, so you can convert your game from Crusader Kings to Victoria to HoI2?

Because that sounds like pretty much the longest campaign ever.

I lost endless sleepless nights to the original Victoria, personally I can't wait.

"For ourselves, we shall not trouble you with specious pretences- either of how we have a right to our empire because we overthrew the Mede, or are now attacking you because of wrong that you have done us- and make a long speech which would not be believed; and in return we hope that you, instead of thinking to influence us by saying that you did not join the Lacedaemonians, although their colonists, or that you have done us no wrong, will aim at what is feasible, holding in view the real sentiments of us both; since you know as well as we do that right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must."

Well, you apparently can go from Crusader Kings, to EU2, to Victoria, and soon to HOI2 DD.

I really like Victoria. It's economy is far and away the most complex out of all of their games, and it's fun building up your empire. It takes a few play throughs to learn how to really industrialize, but once you figure out how to get that empire it's a lot of fun.

I have heard that there are plans to have a CD release of the expansion however.

Are these developers trying to kill geeks, or something? Do they realise how many people will starve to death in a pool of their own waste with this sort of ploy? :p

Hearts of Iron II Doomsday is a standalone, complete version of the game that expands upon Hearts of Iron II, by increasing the time line to include the development of super weapons. Taking advantage of the huge gaming community, many balancing points and game play improvements have been included, enhanced by a significantly improved game A.I. The game also includes a complete scenario editor, so players can fully customize games of their own design, taking them to a whole new level of play.

Features:

  • World War II scenario with an alternative historical outcome.

  • Extended time line until 1953 with historical scenarios like the Israel conflict.

  • Complete scenario editor.

  • Expanded tech trees allowing players to develop tactical nukes and other types of nuclear warfare as well as escort carriers and much more.

  • Improved Diplomatic/Intelligence System reflects the increased political tension of the 1950s.

  • Tradable Weapons - equip your allies with the latest technological advances or get other nations to surrender their secrets.
