karka Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 (edited) Death - The Sound of Perseverance album. Best death metal album ever. R.I.P. Chuck... Edited May 17, 2006 by karka
Blarghagh Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 (edited) Personally, I'd go for Opeth's Blackwater Park, but I'm not much of a death or black metal fan anyway. Isis, Pelican, Arch Enemy, Opeth, Mastodon and Finntroll are pretty much all the 'extreme metal' bands I listen to. EElS Live At Town Hall has not ended. Musopticon? Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Mastodon, Opeth and Finntroll are good, never heard Arch Enemy or Pelican, Isis is a moot thing. Baley Posted May 17, 2006 Author Posted May 17, 2006 The best metal albums, regardless of subgenre, are :
Mr. Brightside Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence (Reinterpreted by Mike Shinoda) :D
Darth Drabek Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Rocket from the Crypt - Young Livers baby, take off your beret everyone's a critic and most people are DJs
Pidesco Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian touristI am Dan Quayle of the Romans.I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands.Heja Sverige!!Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend.
Plano Skywalker Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I'm certainly not in to Black Metal but what about Satyricon and Dragonlord? Based on what I've read, those bands represent some of the very best of black metal. (and Dragonlord just barely qualifies as black metal).
Baley Posted May 17, 2006 Author Posted May 17, 2006 You've been horribly misinformed. Black Metal is pretty much the most pathetic, insufferably moronic, ideologically degrading, dogmatically repulsive subgenre of Metal. Anyway, actually good BM: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nattens_Madri..._Ulven_I_Manden http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%27N_Crugu_Bradului http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf%27s_Lair_Abyss http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Declaration_of_War http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspera_Hiems_Symfonia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Masquerade_Infernale If you're looking for cheap laughs, anything by Immortal, Darkthrone and their ilk. But I must quote Agoraphobic Nosebleed "Black metal is gay as a Catholic priest slouching toward Gomorrah. Face painted like Gene Simmons at Halloween with a tongue up some kids rump looking for candy. Put down that seven string and get a ****in' job you tired-looking homo, Goth hand-banging geek."
Darth Drabek Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Seven string guitars are pretty homosexual. The Arcade Fire - Crown of Love For so long I wanted to hate this band. The singer's Modest Mouse overtones and all the love from the indie-press really made me want to contradict them. But the album is actually good. Very good. Dammit. baby, take off your beret everyone's a critic and most people are DJs
Plano Skywalker Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 the face paint and demon customs are uber lame, no question. I also do not care much for "cookie monster" vocals which both black metal and death metal share. I do, however, like the "thin" guitar sound that bands like Satyricon use.
Musopticon? Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 D00d, liksten to Satanic Warmaster and any NSBM band you can find! They rulzors! Down with the dtry jewsorz!
