Llyranor Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Disney Online will unveil the first images and a playable version of the never-before-seen Pirates of the Caribbean Online game at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) on May 10-12th in booth #1024, South Hall. This massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), slated for release in 2007, is based on the popular film franchise and will allow players to experience the world captured on screen. In the game, players will interact with Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann and other characters made popular in the movie franchise, as they embark on exciting quests in search of treasure and notoriety. Capturing the high seas and swashbuckling adventures found in both (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
alanschu Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I've played one pirate MMO. It was actually quite a bit of fun. The Caribbean is a perfect setting for this type of adventure.
Llyranor Posted April 18, 2006 Author Posted April 18, 2006 Exactly! POTCMMORPG is gonna rock, dawgs! (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
DarthVala Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 So is there any news on the console(s) it will be on? "Great intelligence usually goes hand in hand with great stupdity." Join The Sibilati! -Sibilati retrorsum sibilamus
Llyranor Posted April 18, 2006 Author Posted April 18, 2006 I hope it's on PC too. PC ftw!!! AM I CORRECT, FELLAS? (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
DarthVala Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I'm really unbiased. Xbox 360, PC, PS3, all fine with me. "Great intelligence usually goes hand in hand with great stupdity." Join The Sibilati! -Sibilati retrorsum sibilamus
alanschu Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I suspect PC just because they seem to be more MMO friendly.
Dark_Raven Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Pirates? Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
DarthVala Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 An exaple is Paul Burchill. He can wrestle, too. "Great intelligence usually goes hand in hand with great stupdity." Join The Sibilati! -Sibilati retrorsum sibilamus
Fenghuang Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 If I held even a glimmer of hope that this would work on dialup I'd be down. RIP
Calax Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Pirates? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ninjas? Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.
Judge Hades Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Pirates? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ninjas? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Dinosaurs?
Calax Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Pirates? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ninjas? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Dinosaurs? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Giant robots? Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.
alanschu Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 (edited) Another worthless MMORPG. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I disagree, I think a game setting like this is better than most RPG universes for an MMO. I'd love to play Sid Meier's pirates with another 100 people roaming the Caribbean. Edited April 18, 2006 by alanschu
Surreptishus Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Another worthless MMORPG. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I disagree, I think a game setting like this is better than most RPG universes for an MMO. Llyranor Posted April 18, 2006 Author Posted April 18, 2006 What better way to do that than in a Disney franchise? Try http://www.burningsea.com/ (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
LoneWolf16 Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Another worthless MMORPG. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't you/Didn't you play DDO? StillLife Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 (edited) One word: Disney. I love pirates as much as the next guy, but I don't know if I could handle it. Pirates were often mean, drunken bastards. Then again I played Puzzle Pirates(MMOG) for like sixth months and game's don't get much more cute than that one, other than the fact rum was like player fuel. It would be hard to top its sheer, lego piratey, brilliance though. Must not forget the upcoming Pirates of the Burning Sea too. I'm sure Flying Lab was thrilled a little company like Disney is fixing to compete with them. Edited April 18, 2006 by StillLife
Fenghuang Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Tron 2.0 was fun, but I think that was more Monolith's fault than Disney's. RIP
alanschu Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Pirate games always tend to be on the romantic side. Sid Meier's Pirates is one of the most highly acclaimed games of all time. It certainly does not depict pirates accurately. If this was Freelancer on the seas, I'd likely buy it in a second.
Llyranor Posted April 18, 2006 Author Posted April 18, 2006 Isn't EVE Online similar to Freelancer in concept? (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
alanschu Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 (edited) Yes. I have played some Eve Online as well. Though I just played the trial. By the time I was willing to pay for an MMO, I had no one to play with. Didn't feel like jumping in by my lonesome. Eve has a fantastic economy. Edited April 18, 2006 by alanschu
