April 21, 200619 yr Skyclad I'll sing to you of days departed, Times when men proud and stouthearted carved their names on history's bloody page, The corpse of chivalry long dead Is turning in his loamy bed indignant at your new 'enlightened' age White-collared knights at boardroom tables dream their own financial fables, Fight to make their incomes larger--mounted on their 'credit charges.' Held within the safety of this mundane existence-- Facing endless grey Mondays of dull nine to fives, We all climb the social ladder with a dogged persistence, Forging chains we shall carry for the rest of our lives. We cannot see through clothes may maketh man they cannot give us shelter-- On this mortal helter-skelter if our loyalties are torn, Between the values we believe in and the egos we are feeding-- We stand all together naked as the day we were born. And so cast off the lies that are our lives and find the truth within. SKYCLAD--the veil has lifted, SKYCLAD--now I see through, SKYCLAD--your mask of illusion, SKYCLAD--to the fake that is you. Financial wizards read their spells from filofaxes Concrete hells of their own making pass for Avalon. These men self-made by shrewd investing spend their weekends child-molesting, Lost in 'green-belt' dreams they do no wrong. Your mortgage payment rocket-- Like your blood pressure rising, Executive stresses are the dragons you fight. In your Armani armour you are practically shining, So have no code of honour--you must always be right. Just give me a simple life--my tastes are not demanding, And whatever life may hand me I'll accept it with good grace; For I'm just a simple lad with few ideas about my station, So ale and song will apt suffice to keep me in my place. How can you know the cost of everything yet never see its worth? If you think because you've paid the piper you should call the tune-- Well think again my friend life is a gain of chance, By Fate's command we win or lose, But still retain the right to choose If we should stumble on--or shed our cares and dance SKYCLAD--the veil has lifted, SKYCLAD--no I see through, SKYCLAD--your mask of illusion, SKYCLAD--to the fake that is you. You charge each other for the time and breath it takes to say 'good morning,' But the truth is slowly dawning--things are getting out of hand, We all pursue our shattered dreams along the roads to our own ruin-- Watch our empires sink and wash away like castles made of sand. And so cast off the lies that are your lives and find the truth within
April 21, 200619 yr Haha... "cookie monsters," I like it. I never could get into bands like that, although I have a good friend who loves them. I don't think I've ever laughed harder than when I saw a Six Feet Under video. That dude goes from the "cookie monster" grunting to this ridiculous squealing falsetto: "Rising from the graves/ we come to eat your brains / rising insane / i want to eat your brain" and so on. baby, take off your beret everyone's a critic and most people are DJs
April 21, 200619 yr Opeth has decent lyrics most of the time. The whole album "My Arms, Your Hearse" is a poem actually, splitted into 9 rapshodies. //EDIT: It can be found here. Edited April 21, 200619 yr by Meshugger "Some men see things as they are and say why?""I dream things that never were and say why not?"- George Bernard Shaw"Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man."- Friedrich Nietzsche "The amount of energy necessary to refute bull**** is an order of magnitude bigger than to produce it." - Some guy
April 21, 200619 yr Some good, some not so good. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Those who were too weak to survive were sent to Sweden. It has made me the man I am today. A man who craves furry hentai. So let us go and embrace the rustling smells of unseen worlds
April 21, 200619 yr Skyclad is particularely brilliant because, as opposed to most lyricists, he knows how to use more than simple end rhyme. Internal rhyme and alliteration found everywhere. Some lyrics are in special forms, like sonnets. They're also quite adapt at making fun of, well, everything. Hell, they have an album called Folk Edited April 21, 200619 yr by TrueNeutral
April 21, 200619 yr Author Someone out there thinks those lyrics rock. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OK, Bailey chose what was, by far, the darkest tune on that album. "Damien" is just another "monster" in an album about monsters. The character is, of course, the young Antichrist character from the Omen movies. The song is written from Damien's first-person perspective. "Horror Show" has a second cd in which Schaffer gives an interview. He talks about the song and why it was so dark. This is not a "black metal" band and that view is not necessarily his own perspective.

April 21, 200619 yr Author I am curious as to what type of metal Mr. Suite likes...how about Symphonic Metal (a la Nightwish)?
April 21, 200619 yr ^ You guys can't be serious, right? Ho wait, Star Wars fans, that about explains it... Wow! Such wit! I love you in a completely carnal and homosexual manner.
April 21, 200619 yr There's like two SW-fans in the whole thread, but I guess it was an off-the-beaten-track compliment. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. April 21, 200619 yr Why do you hate Nightwish? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't hate them, but my room mate can't get enough of this band and after a while they just started to annoy me. Maybe it's the fake inspirational sound and the video game keyboard music that bugs me. They are not bad though, i've heard worst... Edited April 21, 200619 yr by Lyric Suite
April 21, 200619 yr Well, I didn't ask you, but thanks anyway. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. April 21, 200619 yr You're quite right in not liking them, there ain't much to like anyway. Top 5, anyone? Dredg - El Cielo Cynic - Focus (Remastered) Fantomas - Suspended Animation The Melvins - Stag Sleep - Jerusalem
April 21, 200619 yr Why do you hate Nightwish? I don't know. Their entire sound just... irks me for some reason. It's so fake. EDIT: Dammit, I can't think of any reason to actually hate them, and it's driving me insane. Usually my musical opinions can at least be backed by gross exaggeration and pretentious name-dropping. April 21, 200619 yr The addition of percussion made reflections and apocalyptica much more itneresting for me than their previous albums.
