Llyranor Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 From NWN2News: "I received a PM today from a source that pointed out Ferret is not only no longer listed as a developer/moderator on the Biosidian forums, but also no longer has his Obsidian developer tag on his past posts. I went to the forums to verify this, and it seems that is indeed the case. We are not sure what to make of this and are looking into it. We will update you as we get further information. UPDATE We have confirmed Ferret is no longer at Obsidian, we wish him well." He's not wearing his dev tag on the relevant Bioboards, but still has them here. What's with this 'confirmation'? What's going on? What happens to NWN2 if the lead designer does indeed leave? We must know! (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Llyranor Posted March 21, 2006 Author Posted March 21, 2006 ... Wait. J.E. Sawyer: "Ferret did work at BIS on both Jefferson and Van Buren (The Black Hound and Fallout 3). On F3 he was designing the highly nutty (but cool) Brotherhood of Steel/Circle of Steel stuff. I'm now the acting lead designer on NWN2." http://nwn2forums.bioware.com/forums/viewt...&forum=95&sp=15 (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)

baby arm Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Ferret never actually existed. Like JE Sawyer, he is just another one of Vault Dweller's split personalities.
metadigital Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I thought Vault Dweller was just an alt of Ender. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
Llyranor Posted March 21, 2006 Author Posted March 21, 2006 Nonsense. Ender is an alt of John Romero. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Spider Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I actually find this worrying. The lead designer quitting (or being fired) this close to release can't possibly be a good sign, especially when no one is saying anything as to why he is leaving. Are there other things we don't know about?
Atreides Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 We need more info! Spreading beauty with my katana.
kirottu Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Well, he This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.
Tigranes Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 But his profile is still "Lead Designer", which leads me to believe rather that Obsidian has just been late in updating his profile (it's probably not the highest of priorities, and they've been late with that before). Sawyer's word is the authority atm. I wonder if this means nwn2's release is further off than we had anticipated, and Ferret no longer can commit himself to the project for such a long time. Let's Play: Icewind Dale Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Icewind Dale II Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Divinity II (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG1 (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG2 (In Progress)
Volourn Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Think of this as a baseball game. Ferret was the starter, and now Sawyer comes into the close. I seriously doubt this is *that* big of a deal. Ferret was cool; but Sawyer is also a professional. It's not the end of the NWN2 world. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.

SteveThaiBinh Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 It's a shame, and it's not good publicity for the game. The main page of this website is still linking to an interview with Ferret, so perhaps he didn't depart on bad terms? Maybe they should hurry up and get the NWN2.com site up again, to generate some good publicity. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." (Nina Kalenkov)

Kaftan Barlast Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Typicly, the bulk of design work and input happens in the early-to-mid stages of development. At this stage, with only about 2 months left til release, it will be to late to implement any new ideas or changes a new designer might have. Its still a strange time to quit. Judge Hades Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Bye, Ferret, and thanks for all the fish. :D Good luck on future endaevers. Here is a thought... Maybe he got hired by Bethesda to work on Fallout 3 since Oblivion is finished.
