But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." - Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials "I have also been slowly coming to the realisation that knowledge and happiness are not necessarily coincident, and quite often mutually exclusive" - meta

It's true that psychotic characters can be interesting to interact with(for example; Brother Kranker), but honorable evil, like Gromnie is quite simply more interesting. Better yet; characters whose ambitions and agendas lay in the morally grey area. Terrorists, fanatics, avengers, avatars of order, etc all can provide interesting 'gonists. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. Judge Hades Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Best antagonist is one of good alignment. In one campaign set in an alternate earth campaign a player was playing a paladin under the banner of King Richard during the crusades. He was perplaxed by the fact that his primary opponent, his antagonist was also a paladin, Lawful Good, of the Islamic faith. In religion two characters of the same alignment can often go toe to toe battle because their gods or faith oppose each other.
Dark_Raven Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Villians. My favorite villian is Callisto from the Xena tv series. She was a psychopath who did not have a care in the world but for one goal, doing harm to Xena whenever she had the chance. Xena killed her family and the people of her village, which is why she became the monster that she was. I like the evil villians that are created by their surroundings like Callisto. All that she loved was destroyed and in a sense she died but was reborn into an evil person with the agenda of killing and to get the one back who cause her to become what she is. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
Judge Hades Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Callisto is one of the better villains. That is the type of villain I tend to create in my own writing but not as much as a psychopath. Such as one of the main characters in my script is a bonofied terrorist. He attacks civilian targets, military targets, does all sorts of nasty things from torture to outright mass murder. He has also a human side that has regret in the things he does but he looks at the larger picture. The government in power killed his family, violated him by ripping out his genetic coding, use his knowledge to create weapons of mass destruction, and so forth and so on. He is kind of a cross of Osama Bin Ladin and the Michael T. Weiss character The Pretender.
Kaftan Barlast Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 What I dont like with most players and sometimes the way designer construct their games, is this preoccupation with over-the-top psycho evil. A player or villain who rips peoples guts out only to see what colour their panchreas is, isnt interesting in the least. What is interesting is a character that has goals and motivations that are completely alien to our moral mindset, but whose frightening logic we can understand. It could also be someone who has goals we can understand but is prepared to do whatever is necessary to reach them. DeathzBlade Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 a game like this would have all the game bashers all over it.. its sounds like something that would sell good.. look at GTA and hitman and a few others like it.. but then you get people like al gores wife all over it.. just cant seem to have a good evil game with out people like that having a cow over it...
Judge Hades Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 That sounds like the main antagoinsts of my PnP Star Wars campaign. Back inthe time of the old Sith Empire, a "True Sith" agent scientist who worked on Malak's Starforge was secretly reverse engineering the Starforge's functions. During the Republic attack he fled using an experimental Starforge heavy fighter, taking his research. At the behest of the Sith Empire he began work on a new Starforge but far more pervasive. With the dark powers of the Sith and a small army he enslaved a remote system. Using the entire system's resources he created a Dyson Sphere with a .5 AU radius with the full functionality of the Star Forge but withthe ability to create much larger and deadlier craft. The scientist had 5 pupils who were rising to become powerful Sith Masters. They slew the scientist and imprisoned her spirit in a sith holocron and killed everyone else at the installation. With the power of the dark side they become one with the captured star and the star itself became sentient. Through the power of this new Star Forge they created bioconstructs of themselves which they can inhabit. Thousands of bioconstruct clones but only five minds governing them all. By this time the Republic and the Jedi eliminated the Sith Empire and the five had no hyperspace coordinates to get back to the rest of the galaxy, so they sent 5 aspects of themselves in cryo on a captial ship with the holocron and saught a return to Republic space through traveling in realspace while the their otherselves await word from the bodies they sent out. They are cold, logical, hiveminded with 5 different hives, with technology vastly different but not wholly superior. Since the PCs have discovered them they and awoke the 5 they sent out they now have a way to return to the Republic though they have realized that after 4000 years things has changed.
Atreides Posted January 30, 2006 Author Posted January 30, 2006 I can only imagine a campaign where you and Volourn were the ancient minds, constantly "interacting" with each other over the years. Spreading beauty with my katana.
Judge Hades Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Um... that would be too scarey and well... weird.
DeathzBlade Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 how about a ravenloft game with how Strahd was made and how ravenloft came to be...
Walsingham Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 tbh, with my players/friends they are so selfish they may as well be evil. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.
