karka Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Yes demo is out. But it is very huge(742 mb) for my crappy connection. If you play it, can you post your impressions? http://www.3dgamers.com/games/swempireatwar/downloads/
alanschu Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 I'll let you know when I get home from work.
thepixiesrock Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 I don't think my computer can handle it. Lou Gutman, P.I.- It's like I'm not even trying anymore!http://theatomicdanger.iforumer.com/index....theatomicdangerOne billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the galaxy. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips. I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my viens. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk, and free throw. I am there.
Hurlshort Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 30 minute download thanks to my cable modem and a Fileplanet subscription...installing now.
LoneWolf16 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 (edited) It'll be done in another 25 minutes. Deraldin Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Someone is hogging all my bancwidth right now so it's telling me that I have 18 hours left. :'(
Kitch Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 There is also a torrent at 3Dgamers. http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/swe...ardemo.exe.html
LoneWolf16 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Done downloading, but now there's apparently something wrong with the damn archive. Hurlshort Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Ok, I only played it for a bit because I actually hate RTS games. It's actually very awesome. It's very cinematic, there's actually a button you can push that goes into a movie type view. It seems like all the RTS conventions are well done. It's hard for me to judge because I don't like the genre, but it seems like a very good use of the Star Wars universe.
Deraldin Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I'm installing as we speak. Too bad I can't play for another 4 fours or so as I have a PnP game to play...
LoneWolf16 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I finally got the archive to work...and I like it. Pretty game, solid voice acting, cool mechanics, non-lame micromanagment, Star Wars...I think I'm in love. Granted, it's not Starcraft, but still looks to be a worthy title. I had thought that some of nature's journeymen had made men and not made them well, for they imitated humanity so abominably. - Book of Counted Sorrows 'Cause I won't know the man that kills me and I don't know these men I kill but we all wind up on the same side 'cause ain't none of us doin' god's will. - Everlast
GhostofAnakin Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I'm really hoping this game lives up to the hype. I wasn't too fond of the previous forrays into the RTS Star Wars universe. "Console exclusive is such a harsh word." - Darque"Console exclusive is two words Darque." - Nartwak (in response to Darque's observation)
Deraldin Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 So far from what I've been able to play in the demo it's a lot of fun. It runs like crap on my system at anything above the lowest settings though. I really need to get a new computer. <_<
alanschu Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 It is a lot of fun, but I need to relearn how to play RTS games. My basic strategy is often "CTRL-A" "ATTACK" which doesn't work too well. I suck at multiple fronts. Though I only really have a problem in the space battle. However, I probably wouldn't mind slowing things down all around, especially on the overhead map screen. Things go pretty fast. But I'm intrigued.
Darque Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Are there hero units? Can you make your own heros?
alanschu Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 There are minor hero units, and major hero units as far as I can tell. The minors it seem have similar tasks to the majors, but the majors come back after a small amount of time when "destroyed" so to speak. Or so it seems anyways. I was able to make Field Officers to improve all land units in combat, as well as smugglers which the Rebels use to steal money from the Empire. The Empire has a Bounty Hunter to counter these guys, and I did see Boba Fett and Solo/Chewie as the "major" versions of these guys. The major ones can also go into combat it seems. Fett has his flamethrower and Jetpack, and the Han/Chewie Combo can hijack enemy vehicles. I'd imagine as you explore worlds, you unlock heros (Luke on Tatooine for example). I really like space combat, and I find it a bit less cumbersome than the land battles. Thankfully the AI is decent enough to still attack and all that if I am too busy to assign orders. It can get pretty chaotic. I always suck at selecting units though.

Moose Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Just in the nick of time, was getting bored of Zero Hour. There are none that are right, only strong of opinion. There are none that are wrong, only ignorant of facts
