karka Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 (edited) Yes. They are independent no more. It is sad. http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/10019/Take-T...rational-Games/ Edited January 9, 2006 by karka
SteveThaiBinh Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I thought Take-Two was having financial trouble because of the GTA 'scandal'. Nothing serious then. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." (Nina Kalenkov)
Hurlshort Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I thought Take-Two was having financial trouble because of the GTA 'scandal'. Nothing serious then. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nah, they just posted lower than expected earnings...they still made a huge amount of dough off GTA. This is interesting...hopefully it will be a positive relationship. I don't know much about Take-Two.
Dhruin Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I guess it's a positive thing in as much as Irrational will have more resources to do BioShock - and perhaps Ken Levine and Jon Chey get to make some money out of this - but many of these deals ultimately lead to the disbandment of the developer. It's a pity this industry is so hard on independent developers.
Llyranor Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 First Firaxis, now Irrational. Hmm. HMMMMMM. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Meshugger Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 And at the same time, EA bought the rights of the title System Shock. After reading the article, i....well.....meh. karka Posted January 10, 2006 Author Posted January 10, 2006 EA releasing an RPG after all that years? Wow..
Meshugger Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 EA releasing an RPG after all that years? karka Posted January 10, 2006 Author Posted January 10, 2006 (edited) I hate you EA :D But Burnout is a great title. Edited January 10, 2006 by karka
mkreku Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I don't think Take Two is a bad choice if you're going to go with a publisher. I mean, they let Rockstar do whatever they want with the GTA series, the Warriors and that lame title.. Manhunt, was it? Just be glad it wasn't EA! Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Llyranor Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Ken Levine dude reveals dark secrets http://pc.ign.com/articles/679/679870p1.html (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
mkreku Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I'm beginning to like that Ken Levine dude after reading the article from Llyranor's post. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Darque Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 And at the same time, EA bought the rights of the title System Shock. After reading the article, i....well.....meh. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
karka Posted January 10, 2006 Author Posted January 10, 2006 But, i think we won't see any Freedom Force titles anymore. Pity. I loved them very much.
Judge Hades Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 It is all part of his devious plan. WE HAVE TO STOP HIM! Where is Boo when we need him?!?!?!
Pidesco Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I never thought I'd say this but Ken Levine's interview makes me feel even more excited about Bioshock. "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian tourist I am Dan Quayle of the Romans. I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands. Heja Sverige!! Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend.
Morgoth Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I'm beginning to like that Ken Levine dude after reading the article from Llyranor's post. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This Ken Levine is not just a dude, he's imho one of the (although still too unknown) smartest people in the industry. People are always raving around Dave Gaider, J.E. and MCA, but Ken is the Creative Director behind Thief1, System Shock2, Freedom Force etc, and his thoughts/opinion about modern game design (if you follow all interviews and forum posts) are teh awesome. So he (and in fact the whole Irrational Crowd) is one of my top-five game-makers... and Bioshock is (apart from Starcraft2 and Dragon Age) the game I'm currently most looking forward to. I think this takeover was a good move, considering the fact that 2K games has lots of other studios with strong portfolios, but without interfering on the creative side. A stronger money-pad now can only mean a better Bioshock. Rain makes everything better.
Child of Flame Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I've got to say I'm worried very little about this. Take Two is probably the best publisher I can really think of at the moment, besides self publishing developers. I doubt they'll 'stifle creative freedom'. Most the people there, looking at the games they make, seem to honestly like games.
