Reveilled Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Indeed. Was that humor? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok, im quite confused now, was that aimed at me? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Generally, a rolleyes smiley is used to signify that you think the comment to which you are responding is stupid or moronic (and usually implies you think the same of the person making the comment). So, I'd suppose that Draakh didn't understand why you appeared to be regarding his question about an english word for a song that precedes a strong drink as a stupid comment (hence ""), Mus? was also confused by it, and wondered if you were trying to be funny (hence "Indeed. Was that humor?"). Of course, I could be way off base here, but that's certainly how this mutually confusing conversation came across to me. Hawk! Eggplant! AWAKEN!

Lady in Red -- Chris DeBurgh I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight I've never seen you shine so bright, hm hm hm I've never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance They're looking for a little romance Given half a chance And I have never seen that dress you're wearing Or the highlights in your hair That catch your eyes I have been blind The lady in red is dancing with me Cheek to cheek There's nobody here It's just you and me It's where I wanna be But I hardly know this beauty by my side I'll never forget the way you look tonight I've never seen you looking so gorgeous as you did tonight I've never seen you shine so bright you were amazing I've never seen so many people want to be there by your side And when you turned to me and smiled it took my breath away And I have never had such a feeling such a feeling Of complete and utter love, as I do tonight The lady in red is dancing with me Cheek to cheek There's nobody here It's just you and me It's where I wanna be But I hardly know this beauty by my side I'll never forget the way you look tonight I never will forget the way you look tonight The lady in red The lady in red The lady in red My Lady in red I love you... EnderAndrew Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 I think Eddie Vedder is one of the best/most important lyricists of our generation. Here are two songs to compare and contrast. i admit it...what's to say i'll relive it...without pain backstreet lover on the side of the road i got a bomb in my temple that is gonna explode i got a .16 gauge buried under my clothes...i play. once upon a time i could control myself once upon a time i could lose myself oh try and mimic..what's insane i am in it...where do i stand? indian summer i hate the heat i got a backstreet lover on the passenger seat i got my hand in my pocket so determined discreet...i pray. once upon a time i could control myself once upon a time i could lose myself once upon a time i could love myself once upon a time i could love myself once once once -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- I wish I was a neutron bomb for once I could go off I wish I was a sacrifice but somehow still lived on I wish I was a sentimental ornament you hung on The Christmas tree I wish I was the star that went on top I wish I was the evidence I wish I was the grounds For 50 million hands upraised and open toward the sky I wish I was a sailor with someone who waited for me I wish I was as fortunate as fortunate as me I wish I was a messenger and all the news was good I wish I was the full moon shining off a Camaro's hood I wish I was an alien at home behind the sun I wish I was the souvenir you kept your house key on I wish I was the pedal brake that you depended on I wish I was the verb 'to trust' and never let you down I wish I was a radio song, the one that you turned up I wish... I wish...

Pope Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 this one is awesome Sneaker Pimps - Half Life Half life wastes before it goes It's funny how your bee sting touch never leaves me whole It's not enough to stay here almost trying You keep your last laugh watch this dying It's just your half time vertigo And if you want an answer I don't know If you had completed me Don't think I'd be pleased with you Don't think I'd compete with you With half of me to take Half life, nothing I'd call home It's lucky how these phantom limb bee stings never show It's not enough to leave this falling kindly You burn my star down twice as brightly It's just your half light undertow But if you need forgiveness I don't know Half light breaks with nothing wrong Just a corner of my bed where you don't belong It's kind of you to notice no-one's dying You choked your last laugh almost crying It's just your half life long to know And if you need a reason so it goes
julonia17 Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Bike- Pink Floyd I've got a bike. You can ride it if you like. It's got a basket, a bell that rings and Things to make it look good. I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it. You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world. I'll give you anything, ev'rything if you want things. I've got a cloak. It's a bit of a joke. There's a tear up the front. It's red and black. I've had it for months. If you think it could look good, then I guess it should. You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world. I'll give you anything, ev'rything if you want things. I know a mouse, and he hasn't got a house. I don't know why. I call him Gerald. He's getting rather old, but he's a good mouse. You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world. I'll give you anything, ev'rything if you want things. I've got a clan of gingerbread men. Here a man, there a man, lots of gingerbread men. Take a couple if you wish. They're on the dish. You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world. I'll give you anything, ev'rything if you want things. I know a room of musical tunes. Some rhyme, some ching. Most of them are clockwork. Let's go into the other room and make them work.
Blarghagh Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 ...And, because Jeremy is too depressing for me, I'll relate a song that brings good memories of happy days with my wife. Lady in Red -- Chris DeBurgh I hate that song! Not because it's not good, but because it gets stuck in my head in a most annoying way! I can never get it out! Anyway, here's my latest entry I used to be part indie, but then Modest Mouse sold out! I love this song because it's just so damn WEIRD. That trumpet Modest Mouse - This Devil's Workday Lyrics All those people that you know... All those people that you know... All those people that you know, Floatin' in the river are logs. I could buy myself a reason. I could sell myself a job. I could hang myself on treason. All the folks I know are gone. All the people that you know... All the people that you know... All the people that you know, Floatin' in the river are logs. So I ate the wedding cake 'Til the whole damn thing was gone. And I'm gonna drown the ocean. Now ain't none o' that so wrong? All the people that you know... All those people that you know... All those people that you know, Floatin' in the river are gone! Gonna take this sack of puppies, Gonna set it out to freeze. Gonna climb around on all fours 'Til all the blood falls out my knees. All the people that you know... All the people that you know... All those people that you know, Floatin' in the river are logs. Well, let's take this potted plant to the woods and set it free! I'm gonna tell the owners Just how nice that was of me! I could buy myself a reason! I could sell myself a job! I could hang myself on treason! Oh, I am my own damn god! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
Commissar Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 Sting - Russians In Europe and America, there's a growing feeling of hysteria Conditioned to respond to all the threats In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets Mr. Krushchev said we will bury you I don't subscribe to this point of view It would be such an ignorant thing to do If the Russains love their children too How can I save my little boy from Oppenheimer's deadly toy There is no monopoly of common sense On either side of the political fence We share the same biology Regardless of ideology Believe me when I say to you I hope the Russians love their children too There is no historical precedent To put words in the mouth of the president There's no such thing as a winnable war It's a lie we don't believe anymore Mr. Reagan says we will protect you I don't subscribe to this point of view Believe me when I say to you I hope the Russians love their children too We share the same biology Regardless of ideology What might save us me and you Is that the Russians love their children too Apropos, the woman despises this particular song.
Musopticon? Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 Russians is a great song, even as it's Sting. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Those who were too weak to survive were sent to Sweden. It has made me the man I am today. A man who craves furry hentai. So let us go and embrace the rustling smells of unseen worlds
WinterSun Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 Sting is gayer than a pile of men having sex. This isn't,however: Nile-Wrought Nanna Father of the Zonei Eldest of the Wanderers A Shadow out of Time The Moon is calling Me The Breath of the Old Ones Whispers in my Ear With inhuman Impatience They Beckon to Me I call to the Moon and Sin I now possess the secrets of the Tides of Blood I have traveled on the Spheres And the spheres do not protect Me I have Walked in the Pit And the Pit does not protect Me The Lords of the Wind rush about Me The Lords of the Earth crawl about my Feet And are Angered A Wind has Risen The Dark Waters Stir The lines of my life have been Obliterated By my wanderings in the Waste My fate is no longer Writ in the Stars For I have broken the Covenant Have the Gods forsaken Me I cannot read the Omens What sacrifice have I failed to Make I call to the Gods Do not cast thy servant Down Wrought What have I Done master of my domain Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo.

Cantousent Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 I like both Sting and Russians. It's especially meaningful right now because the enemy we face today is increasingly willing to sacrifice his children in order to destroy others. The Modest Mouse song isn't exactly an uplifting weekend read, is it? :D Keep all the lyrics coming. Blarghagh Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 The Modest Mouse song isn't exactly an uplifting weekend read, is it? :D Keep all the lyrics coming. No, not exaclty, but here's one of theirs that is(incidentally, it also seems to be more popular than most of their work, causing all the indie kids to go 'larghalb they sold out I hate them now because people like my old favourite band so I shat my pants!' Modest Mouse - Float On I backed my car into a cop car the other day! Well, he just drove off. Sometimes life's okay. I ran my mouth off a bit too much, oh what can I say? Well, you just laughed it off, it was all okay! And we'll all float on okay! And we'll all float on okay! And we'll all float on okay! And we'll all float on anyways, Well, a fake Jamaican took every last dime with a scam! It was worth it just to learn from sleight-of-hand. Bad news comes, don't you worry even when it lands, Good news will work its way to all them plans. We both got fired on the exactly the same day, Well, we'll float on good news is on the way! And we'll all float on okay! And we'll all float on okay! And we'll all float on okay! And we'll all float on, alright Already, we'll all float on! Now, don't worry, we'll all float on Alright, already we'll all float on! Alright don't worry we'll all float on! And we'll all float on, alright Already, we'll all float on! Alright, don't worry even if things end up a bit to heavy, we'll all float on alright! Already, we'll all float on! Alright already we'll all float on Okay! Don't worry we'll all float on! Even if things get heavy we'll all float on! Alright already, we'll all float on... Don't you worry, we'll all float on... All float on...
EnderAndrew Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 Float On is on that compilation of kid's songs with kids singing them. Too bad the song is pretty morbid and screwed up. I offer up the good stanza from Plush: And I feel, so much depends on the weather So is it raining in your bedroom? And I see, that these are the eyes of disarray Would you even care?
Reveilled Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Windmills of your Mind - Noel Harrison Round, Like a circle in a spiral, Like a wheel within a wheel, Never ending or beginning, On an ever-spinning reel, Like a snowball down a mountain, Or a carnival balloon, Like a carousel that's turning, Running rings around the moon, Like a clock whose hands are sweeping, Past the minutes on its face, And the world is like an apple, Spinning silently in space, Like the circles that you find, In the windmills of your mind! Like a tunnel that you follow, To a tunnel of its own, Down a hollow to a cavern, Where the sun has never shone, Like a door that keeps revolving, In a half-forgotten dream, Like the ripples from a pebble, Someone tosses in a stream, Like a clock whose hands are sweeping, Past the minutes on its face, And the world is like an apple, Spinning silently in space, Like the circles that you find, In the windmills of your mind! Keys that jingle in your pocket, Words that jangle in your head, Why did summer go so quickly? Was it something that I said? Lovers walk along a shore, And leave their footprints in the sand, Was the sound of distant drumming, Just the fingers of your hand? Pictures hanging in a hallway, or the fragment of a song, half-remembered names and faces, but to whom do they belong? When you knew that it was over, Were you suddenly aware, That the autumn leaves were turning, To the color of her hair? Like a circle in a spiral, Like a wheel within a wheel, Never ending or beginning, On an ever-spinning reel, As the images unwind, Like the circles that you find, In the windmills of your mind ! Hawk! Eggplant! AWAKEN!

Cantousent Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 A sort of Homecoming -- U2 And you know it's time to go Through the sleet and driving snow Across the fields of mourning Light in the distance And you hunger for the time Time to heal, desire, time And your earth moves beneath Your own dream landscape Oh, oh, oh... On borderland we run... I'll be there I'll be there... Tonight A high road A high road out from here The city walls are all pulled down The dust, a smoke screen all around See faces ploughed like fields that once Gave no resistance And we live by the side of the road On the side of a hill As the valley explode Dislocated, suffocated The land grows weary of its own Oh, oh, oh...on borderland we run... And still we run We run and don't look back I'll be there I'll be there Tonight Tonight I'll be there tonight...I believe I'll be there...somehow I'll be there...tonight Tonight The wind will crack in winter time This bomb-blast lightning waltz No spoken words, just a scream... Tonight we'll build a bridge Across the sea and land See the sky, the burning rain She will die and live again Tonight And your heart beats so slow Through the rain and fallen snow Across the fields of mourning Light's in the distance Oh don't sorrow, no don't weep For tonight, at last I am coming home I am coming home Fionavar's Holliday Wishes to all members of our online community: Happy Holidays Join the revelry at the Obsidian Plays channel:Obsidian Plays Remembering tarna, Phosphor, Metadigital, and Visceris.
