That's just one of the end results of the problems I have with gaming in my PC right now. I can't find the problem. Everything is properly connected, especially the graphics card. I also have the latest drivers installed fresh.

Basically the problem is that randomly a game will freeze, or hard lock my PC. Then I get a scrambled color pattern, from checkers (above) to clearly corrupted graphics and my only choice is to try to Ctrl+Alt+Del it so I can terminate the app, or just do a hard reset. This is the main reason I've yet to advance in Half-Life 2 <_<

Bah.

That would seem like an O/C type problem or something.

Very bizarre.

What's your system specs?

That's a very familiar texture to me. It usually shows up when textures are missing. Have you tried reinstalling? The decrypting files part can sometimes be a b1tch.

I would suggest reinstalling. As Bokishi said, that pattern can be used when you're missing textures. Also check the steam monitor and game properties to make sure that it's at 100 percent and ready to play.

Isn't Steam just lovely?

Is it happenning with other games? Does Half-Life 2 work for a while, then implode?

Sounds like your system might be overheating, too.

Perhaps more memory as well. o:)

Memory shouldn't cause his texture absense.

Okay, we'll keep this one going for a while to see if anyone can give RolePlayer some constructive help. I'd suggest using a hip flask, but that's probably a last resort. It won't help your computer, but it will help you not to care.

Seriously, I'd start keeping running tabs on the temperature in your rig. I know mine runs hot, although I don't tend to get hangs or glitches. I'm running Arctic Silver and it seems to have helped keep things a bit cooler.

Yes, but it sure as hell couldn't hurt. o:)

As for the problem, I'm with everybody else...Cooling...even a desk fan would help (were the side panel removed, of course).

Reinstalling the game doesn't seem like the answer, because this happens with pretty much every game I can think of. Recently I've tried the Dungeon Siege 2 demo: same thing. And it goes the same way with Bloodlines, Beyond Good and Evil, The Sims 2, etc.

If you can procure parts, start swapping I guess.

My money is on the Video Card unfortunately o:)

My 2 cents...try this in order...

1. Update Motherboard Drivers

2. Update Bios

3. Windows reinstall

4. Borrow a friend's card and see if problem persists

5. Buy new card/return card to manufacturer if still under warranty

I have to agree.

Jorge(that replacent texture doohickey) can be a bitch to look at.

Re-install Windows? Only if you are congenitally stupid, insane or masochistic! Uninstall and re-install the drivers, maybe, but not the whole OS.

If the games work for a few minutes, then go fritz, it is heating. End of thread.

He's already tried that...and reinstalling windows can clear up a little of issues, plus your system will run a lot faster afterwards.

Yeah, I know it might. It also might unglue everything, the Registry is just a flat file and is not very robust, and I have seen people waste weeks re-installing Windows multiple times.

I have an idea: install a Linux flavour on a partition. That way, you can access the data on the Windows drives and get it all off, then you will be freer to perform major surgery on the drive.

PS I still think something is overheating, either the CPU or the GPU.

Well, that's nothing.

Look what I got when I told Heather to change her appearance:

You know, that look must be getting popular, because later on I decided

to pay a visit to Vesuvius, and the dancers there seemed to favor it too:

That doesn't look like any part of K2 that I visited.
