Atreides
I found out that Neil Gaiman will be promoting his latest book at my uni next week. There'll be a signing session at the end so I thought that I'd pick up a Sandman comic for him to sign. Any suggestions as to which one and why? I'm thinking of his latest Sandman standalone release. EnderAndrew
I've never read Sandman, but I read the Death comics he did and I really dug 'em. I'm really looking forward to Gaiman's first movie, called Mirrormask. The trailers look really trippy.

Atreides
Here's the conclusion if you're interested: Well, came back from his presentation. He started off with a video presentation of the trailer for Mirrormask (his graphical novel adapted to film), a few bluescreen comparisons (acting vs final cut) and some Q&A for the Mirrormask extras. He wrapped up the Mirrormask part by commenting on his experience working with the art-director dude on his book and movie then finally a synopsis of the story. Basically it's about a wantaway circus girl who dreams about a world (actually 2) on the verge of collapse that needs patching up. From the film, it's got a kafka look to it. Weird with lots of artsy things and colours. For example in one of the scenes someone explains the concept to the protagonist by dropping a small red cube on the floor which expands, out pops a puppet trumpet band. 2D cities pop up with some puppets while he tells the story etc. There's anohter scene where the girl gets a black-goth makeover from mechanical girl-puppets that are sing. He answered some questions about what he was doing and some of his projects from the host of the session. Anyway he read 2-3 pages of a yet to be published novel (quite interesting), a Q&A session followed by the book signings. Didn't get my Sandman material out in the end. Mostly a book thing, not just Mirrormask though (AUD40 for hardcover on sale outside the convention, AUD18 for other paperback novels). Spreading beauty with my katana. EnderAndrew
I think the trailer looks incredible, but the early reviews are calling the movie fluff.
Atreides
That's possible. You can only watch so much till your brain melts. Not sure if the fact that it's only 80 mins is good or bad. Spreading beauty with my katana.

Atreides
Nope. I might if I get the chance but it's probably going to be hard to visualise. Better to just watch the movie. Spreading beauty with my katana.
Guest GroinOfDespair
No bothers to read anymore. The oppressive forces of darkness have ripped every free thought from print that might dare question the world we live in, lest they make someone uncomfortable in the bed-sore-ridden pallor we rot in. timmy_otoole
I really liked all the graphic novels by Neil. Sandman is definately my favorites, but his books American Gods and Neverwhere are awesome. Good characters that you can believe in. By that I mean great character development.
