The fact that it's a back-formation has nothing to do with your original statement that it was not a word.

 

As for uncouth being a word longer than couth. Okay, but uncouth comes from uncuth which comes from cuth, the Middle English term for 'known'. I hope you're not suggesting that couth is somehow invalid because it disappeared from the English language for awhile.

The odd thing about ain't is that it came out at around the same time as won't and don't. Personally, I think there was an anti-ain't conspiracy in the 17 hundreds that drove the word underground.

 

But ain't is a ninja. :( Ain't survives. Ain't has sprung back up in the light of a new millennium and shall now run free like the bufflo!

Except it's legal to raise buffalo for slaughter these days.

 

I've been to a place that only serves buffalo.
