Didn't make much of a difference. Ockers challenging the Dutch worst shooting performance in a penalty shoot out this tournament.

England, of course, still unchallenged all time greats there.

Shame the Cape Verde game didn't go to penalties as well.

Probably, some terrible penalties this year (****ing Havertz and Woltemade...) but Beach was having a good tournament, seems like crap man management.

Hooray for Morocco getting it done.

Non-stop tooting, trashcans lit on fire, cars upended. Guess Morocco won

Looks like we finally reached the real part of the tournament, although I always seem to enjoy the group stage more. We might well see France vs. Spain and Brazil vs. Argentina in the semi-finals. Should be interesting. I was thinking, rather than having a game for 3rd place, wouldn't it be fun if the last four played a group-stage style round robin?

World Cup 2026: US striker Folarin Balogun's one-game red...

Folarin Balogun is available to play for the United States in their World Cup last-16 tie against Belgium after his one-game ban is suspended by Fifa.

About to be 2002 all over again with host corruption

Yeah, things that make you go "hmm". They'd have been better off changing it to a yellow card, but perhaps that's against regs.

It was a red in the first place, I'm not sure what the issue is with it.

Well I was thinking the only way that's corruption is if Redacted is involved. Sure enough:

Did President Donald Trump, White House Influence Folarin Balogun’s Red Card Appeal?

Oh well, Belgium may very well lose to them.

Or it may motivate Belgium.

Fun games today.

Not sure I'd have the courage to play "Football's coming Home" in that stadium after that result.

Fitting for this year if they actually win it.

OMG....what a day of results. The last 24 hours has been the most exciting so far for me around results. This WC has also delivered on the unexpected wins

Firstly Norway, I didn't think they would win but they have played so well I knew they would go home with pride and as local heroes. But they won !!!

Yes Brazil should have got that early penalty but the Norwegian goalkeeper was unbelievable and then Haaland delivered late but he still delivered. But the entire Norwegian team plays well together as a cohesive and highly effective team

Well done Norway, they must be the greatest surprise around any team so far?

And then the England game. Firstly I set my alarm clock for 3:30 am because I have to work today and after the Norwegian game 3.5 hours sleep is better than nothing. But the 1 hour delay meant I got to watch the whole game from second half

What an English performance and they won with an incredibility hostile Mexican crowd and 1 player short. This constant booing from the Mexican fans I noticed in the South Africa game, is that normal in the US or Canadian stadiums? I'm really happy Mexico lost

After this win there should be no doubt England has the potential and skill to go all the way

Well done England !!!

The " worst " part of these 2 wins is now Norway and England have to play each other but it was inevitable and likely that favored EU teams would play each other in the next stage like Spain vs Portugal

But Norway as I mentioned has had an incredible WC so if they lose to England they still go home as real winners

Yeah, I never thought Brazil would be knocked out

Norway really surprised everyone and many punters will be very unhappy lol

I'd say it was normal for a game in Mexico. USA vs. Mexico games are perhaps even more crazy because we've got a history. But well done by England, especially in that stadium. With Bellingham and Kane, England has a real 1-2 combo.

Why do people always get upset at the home fans booing constantly?

It's probably a cultural thing; some cultures consider it rude. In the USA, certain cities are known for their propensity to boo; Detroit, for example.

Just call it quits and give Drump the cup already

Beating Brazil AGAIN (happened our last world cup in 1998 too) was a surreal experience, made even more surreal as I won a lot of money by betting on a 2-1 result. Thanks, Neymar!

Vengeance for 1066 incoming. Justice for Hardrada!

Really enjoying this world cup. Lots of crazy matches so far.

The most entertaining thing about Spain Portugal was the commentators trying to come up with ways to avoid using the word 'boring'.

I didn't find it that boring, is knockout football. I did miss some due to work, figured it'd be one slip up. They left Ronaldo on for the full 90 , Martinez is a dolt

Sadly, this will not come to pass this time

Funnily enough 'typical knock out football' was one of the euphemisms the commentators used. Along with other classics like 'possession based game' and 'tactical struggle'. I'm not sure they cranked out a 'one for the purists' but they must have come close.

Probably wasn't that bad, objectively, and may have had something to do with me not caring at all who won.

The only other game I found genuinely boring in the tournament I switched off at half time, which was not a good choice since all hell broke loose in the second half.

Well that's it for the USA. Not a surprise really. I don't think we'll go further until we have a whole team of Pulisic quality or better players. But they should at least be able to play a better brand of defense.

Yes, that Portugal-Spain match was a snoozer.

Suitable they get tossed with two mistakes. Also neat is all 3 hosts getting eliminated in 3 days.

Those defensive errors were awful. Hard to see them making a difference to the overall result since Belgium was comfortably better anyway but they were nails in the coffin. You wouldn't have thought that it was the same US side on attack that put a very easy 4 past a Paraguay defence that had been excellent otherwise either.

Not sure that Trump's intervention did them any favours at all.
