ONEGAI PEGASUS!

TWINKLE... ELL.

Like Sam Carter once said to Rodney McKay: Go suck a lemon, Chibi-Usa.

(Joke explanation for everyone who hasn't seen Stargate SG1, in addition to it's original meaning, Rodney McKay is allergic to lemons and says he'd probably die from the lemon chicken offered in the cantina, and later when he's being annoying to Carter she tells him to go suck a lemon :p)

Edit: Because you asked, IC: Chibi-Usa is 903 years old at the beginning of Dreams.

So what you're saying is

Chibi-Usa is the one grooming Pegasus?

Do people age really slow after Usagi become Neo-Queen Serenity? Or is this just something the manga came up with but couldn't really expand on?

No, not really, because:

Spoiler

Pegasus/Helios is much older. He was around during the original Silver Millennium. While the original DiC dub states that to have been a thousand years ago, that's not at all what the source material says. There it was back when Earth was still one Kingdom.

We can approach this from two possible angles now. First, if Earth being one Kingdom was supposed to mean way back when Earth had one single contintent, then that was roughly 140 million years ago. However, given the use of Roman and Greek mythology in Sailor Moon, we could also assume the name Silver Millennium to mean that this was during the Silver Age of Man, roughly 3600 to 3700 years ago.

It's a safe bet to assume that Pegasus ist at the very least almost 4000 years old by now, if not older. So no, it's not Chibi-Usa grooming him.

There's no real explanation I think. Due to the Silver Crystal, people in Crystal Tokyo (or on Earth in general) stop aging after 22 or 23, and live for at least a thousand years. It's just Chibi-Usa that stopped growing when she was nine or ten. She's been nine or ten, in terms of development, for almost 900 years, that's why her wish to finally grow up is such a powerful one. She sick of being a child.

Now I'm just more confused.

Why early 20s? Why is Chibi-Usa the exception? In all that time Pegasus can't find a gf his own age and we're supposed to trust him to protect everyone's dreams? Man, Sailor Moon can be a real cluster ****.

Are you saying that

Spoiler

Chibiusa will be born in the near future and remain a child for a thousand years? I thought she was born in the far future.

And I actually was never sure if her parents in the future were the ones we know now or a future reincarnation...

I honestly don't know, and I don't think the manga has any explanation either, but I will keep you guys posted if I come across something.

Yes, pretty much. The manga ends with Usagi pregnant, although she does fight the final ultimate evil of the universe and everything (tm) for an indeterminate time before there's a little timeskip ahead. Given the timeframe and the fact that they call the future we see the 30th century, Chibi-Usa's birth is most likely in the early 2000s.

Managed to get a Steven Universe episode in. Should probably not have spent 5 hours typing up something about Sailor Stars. Alas, well...

Spoiler

Timetravel Steven was really hilarious. ❤️

edit: Oh, and @Bartimaeus, here's my observation from way back about the episode you found offensive:

Spoiler

Minako and Makoto once again prove that their gaydar is completely broken when they fall head over heels for such an obviously gay fashion designer that you even immediately forget how much this reinforces a stereotype.

Naturally, with a man being the victim of the week, Fish-Eye gets to chase after him. He gets really catty (get it? A fish, getting catty!) when he finds out that the fashion designer has no love for him and is just really using him as inspiration.

Also, fashion is REALLY gay, you guys. REALLY REALLY GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY. .5 creep points for that.

I know that answer too. Not because I looked it up, but because it would be totally bad writing if they included all the hints for no reason. The one thing that's left is seeing how long it takes for the reveal to happen. :)

This feels like way back when I first read A Game of Thrones and went online to see if people came to the same conclusions I did (namely R + L = J) only to find fans were actually debating about this back and forth. Huh. Good thing the show cleared that up.

Yeah, don't worry, I am checking back with your write-ups for them after I watch them (I only read the ratings *before* I watch them, though). We're not necessarily focusing on all the exact same points for our issues with episodes, but there does seem to be a lot of overlap. That episode really sucked, especially because the entire first half was exclusively about Fishcreep. The second half...was improved because at least Usagi was acting normal, but if you wait until the second half to do anything fun, well, the second half is where several minutes of copy+paste action and resolution happens, so there's not really all that much time if you haven't already set stuff up.

That SU episode is one of my season 1 favorites. It shouldn't be, because it's so dumb, but it is.

Spoiler

Did you note that the original Steven is actually dead now? He killed himself by destroying the time thingy: from now on, all the characters for the rest of the show are alternative timeline versions of themselves. Whoops!

Although...I think that episode is basically non-canonical, :p.

Also, I did read your 30 page research paper on Sailor Moon Sailor Stars from the previous page, but as I haven't seen it (and also I don't usually analyze shows nearly as deeply as that), reading is basically all I can do, :p.

So I watched it just now

On one hand, it is a better episode on paper. We get to see the whole Sailor crew in action (and the arcade guy and his sister) for some supporting characters, Chibi-Usa and Usagi having a fight isn't the core of the episode, and Tiger Eye actually does a smart thing and goes for efficiency. All refreshing from the normal formula of Super S.

But as most folks know, real experience deviates a lot from theoretical and a cartoon meant for teenage girls is no exception. Off the top of my head what bothered me the most wasn't Makoto's body image issues or Tiger Eye's predatory scheme (those were bad but I'll get to it later), but Pegasus and Chibi-Usa. The grooming aspect is much more pronounced than it's been before, my fiance is watching this with me and she has taken to calling Pegasus "Pedosus" and it's very hard to argue with that. In any case that scene disturbed her because it basically charted out Pegasus grooming Chibi-Usa into believing she had fallen in love with him at first sight. It may just be worse than Fish Eye wanting a 12> year old boy to "score a goal in him".

Makoto's body image issues.......I'm not sure how to phrase my feelings on them. Like I think in the context of the show she looks fine, hell she's called a "pretty guardian" so I think in context she's supposed to be depicted as attractive. But as someone who has/does suffer from issues regarding my appearance, I know how it is to feel like **** about the way you look even if it is totally fine. So I actually think it is portrayed very well here, and her friends handled it wonderfully by supporting her instead of trying to minimize her feelings about her appearance and relationships. Because that sure as **** doesn't work.

This being Super S however, that all gets ****ed up because Tiger Eye takes advantage of her issues and gets Fish Eye to disable her friends so he can dream rape her in front of them. Now dream rape is par for the course of Super S, so why is it so bad here? Well first of all it's a character we've been following for a hundred episodes now and feel some sort of attachment to. Secondly, it's because the guy had a horde of ladies whose dreams he could have penetrated but he only actually does it once because....I guess it would have been too much for the animators to show him popping from dream to dream. So they flushed down what was actually a smart move for the Amazon trio down so we can see Makoto getting dream raped only to save the day with Super Supreme Thunder. Back to formula.

Looking at my watching habits, I'm not watching Sailor Moon as frequently as I was. Some of this can be attributed to work or having to do stuff for a pnp game I'm running on the weekends, but I'm just not looking forward to it like I was with previous seasons. More than the creepy stuff with the Amazon trio is just how ****ing boring this season is. Everything is about Usagi and Chibi-Usa fighting about some stupid bull**** and still being inseparable because otherwise Chibi-Usa couldn't get her age inappropriate horse bf to fill her future mom up with horn power. It sounds like a bad porno because it's about as well written as one.

Finished episode 19. 20 I might leave for tomorrow.

Spoiler

Beach episode: without Michiru and Haruka in a swimsuit nearby*, boys kept coming to talk to them, but Shingo scared them away. I guess that explains why they are still single.🤔

Usagi is getting fat again. It was mentioned three times in one episode.:shrugz:

And is Mimet is back? Who put the thumbtack in Usagi’s shoe?** Fish Eye was probably not worried about her. And it didn't seem to have been Chibiusa.

*In the episode Makoto was training near the hotel where Mamoru worked, some boys were interested in them, but they left when they saw Michiru and Haruka. In the version I watched they described them as “much better”. Even Haruka, not as feminine, was better.

**Seriously, I didn't notice who did it.

Man **** this season

It's 3 am again and I should get some sleep, but I'll reply in more detail later, and perhaps talk about the reason why this episode hit me as hard as it did.

Spoiler

Long story short for now, I have a friend who essentially is Makoto: A very nice person, somewhat naive at times, really attractive* but doesn't see herself that way and with the good luck to always come across a butthole or another who messed her up even more (oh, and she really... really often fell in love with whomever said hello to her at the time). I've done my fair share of spending a night listening to her, and I have seen first hand that it doesn't help when someone tells her to show some self-respect, no matter how well intentioned that statement might have been - and that's always questionable in itself, because it does carry derisive undertones.

Or let's say, I used to have a friend like that. I haven't seen or talked to her in... what, 15 years now, because we lost contact.

*And yes, obviously Makoto is a pretty guardian. This is one of the points where the show is asking a bit much of the viewer, and it becomes even weirder in the context of an anime. Her having wavy hair with a colour nobody else has and being taller than even most grown men (let alone boys her age) would be much more understandable if she wouldn't have friends with blonde, pink and blue hair with impossible hairdos that look nothing like Japanese women either. They don't have any issues, but Makoto is a bit of a pariah because of her looks.

It's just something one needs to accept. I mean, not that she has body image problems, that can hit even the most attractive of people. But nobody wanting to dance with her except the other girl who nobody wants to dance with at that party, eh... 's a bit of a stretch. 'S fitting that Tiger's-Eye would do it. He's foreign, after all, he didn't get the memo that Makoto isn't what Japanese men want in their women.

Keep us informed what your fiancee thinks when Pegasus successfully guilt trips Chibi-Usa in 10 or so episodes. Because that was top level cringe for me. Ugh.

Spoiler

Or that scene where he tells her they can't meet any more because she grew up, and only kisses her after she turned back into her nine year old self. If she's freaked out now already, oh boy, this is going to be fun for you two yet.

I usually don't, either. I'm not sure what prompted that. I wanted to figure out why I like Sailor Stars more than I "objectively measured" should. Huh. Man, I really need to go and sleep now. More later, I guess.

I'm thankful that I've been skipping enough of the ends of episodes I can't even recall her saying this. I had really grown to like Chibi-Usa from S, I don't want her to make me want to kill myself from just her uttering two words.

Episode something:

Spoiler

I watched this one while reading a book, it just didn't seem very interesting or good (it was the one about the old paranoid lady), so I don't really have anything to say.

Episode what episode am I even on anymore I don't remember someone help meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:

Spoiler

lmao at the other two creepfaces being horrified by Fishcreep pining after a young boy - now you know what the rest of us feel!

Is Mako telling Chibi-Usa to be with Pegasus - at least the girls (that aren't Usagi) were smart enough to realize she was acting weird about it.

Fishcreep is such a creepfreak.

Episode Sailor Moon save us all:

Spoiler

What's so frustrating is that there is still usually a number of good moments in each episode, like the opening of this one, where the girls are looking at boys and then Mako says "he looks just like my old crush" and Rei basically disintegrates on the spot because of it - got a hearty laugh from me.

lmao Shingo's body language and "okay, okay, what are you guys doing, stop bugging MAH women!"

Well, this stopped being funny in record time, this must be an Ami assault episode; oh, guess I didn't need to guess, since the very next scene was the 3 Creepateers being assigned her. ...Well, sort of - them getting dunked on by these bubbles (including someone who sounded suspiciously like the Luna voice actress) for being absolute failures was kind of funny.

Okay, that was a great sequence - Shingo with his hands inexplicably down his pants doing his grumpy old man walk or whatever the hell he's supposed to be doing coming in trying to protect the girls, just to get absolutely destroyed by Minako because she's...well, Minako, and then Ami correctly stuck to her guns and ignored Tiger Shorts.

Yes! Minako physically abused Artemis again, it's been way too long! 👏 👏👏

This is getting a little weird and the bad things haven't even happened yet; also, is Shingo like 0% body fat, because he dropped like a literal rock through the water.

"Ugh, what happened?" I don't know Shingo, I skipped past all of it until the exact moment you woke up.

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

I watched this one while reading a book, it just didn't seem very interesting or good (it was the one about the old paranoid lady), so I don't really have anything to say.

The episode with the paranoid lady is the one when

Spoiler

Chibiusa explicitly says the enemies are sexually harassing their victims.

lmao at the other two creepfaces being horrified by Fishcreep pining after a young boy - now you know what the rest of us feel!

Is Mako telling Chibi-Usa to be with Pegasus - at least the girls (that aren't Usagi) were smart enough to realize she was acting weird about it.

Fishcreep is such a creepfreak.

Yes,

Spoiler

Fish guy is creepy.

Is Mako telling Chibiusa to be with the Pedasus? Yes, but she doesn't know it is not a human.

By the way, if you want to pre-emptively creep yourself out, watch this. It's better than to go in unprepared. Really.

I only read the title of the video. I think I will watch it when it happens, so that I don't have to do it twice.

Spoiler

Freaking Pedasus!

Did you note that the original Steven is actually dead now? He killed himself by destroying the time thingy: from now on, all the characters for the rest of the show are alternative timeline versions of themselves. Whoops!

Although...I think that episode is basically non-canonical, :p.

They even lampshade it at the end with the song. Heh. In those exact words even, I think. ;)

No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

I'm thankful that I've been skipping enough of the ends of episodes I can't even recall her saying this. I had really grown to like Chibi-Usa from S, I don't want her to make me want to kill myself from just her uttering two words.

Skipping the assault scenes and the fights seems to be a really good idea. Maybe I'll do just that if I ever rewatch Sailor Moon again. Tha way the only thing left that's really terrible is how out of character the girls sometimes are. Eh, and the whole Chibi-Usa and Usagi are siamese twins thing. What the hell made them link their transformation and attack sequences like that. Gah!

Regardless of the new focus of the show, studio interference or no, that was a bad idea from start to finish. Why would you ever limit your creative freedom like that?
