  1. There wouldn't be anything wrong with complaining anyway. That's your God given right and we respect it here on the Obsidz boards. :Cant's wolfish grin icon: Seriously, though, I don't mind folks complaining it's too hard to solo the game, although it can sometimes be frustrating because the game was clearly meant to be tough enough to require a party. Folks who solo want bragging rights (yeah yeah, cue protests (both too many and too loudly to be genuine in every case)) and you can't brag about your cool solo run if it's easy. It *should* be hard. I know you weren't complaining, DKReborn, but no biggie even if you were. At least you weren't one of those folks who complains about every game being too easy while he polishes his fingernails on his shirt and then hooks his thumbs behind his suspenders. <.<
  2. I don't understand why you're questioning motives, Bruce. On the other hand, I think I've seen other folks question yours, so I guess it might be a little bit of what went around coming around sort of thing. For myself, I will completely say that I find the vast majority of romances cringe worthy. When you say they make me uncomfortable, I guess maybe in a way. Not in a 'he denies his emotions' or 'lacks self-awareness' sort of way. That's not just wrong, it's silly. ...But it's not the very idea of romances that bugs me. It's the idea of taking something so complex and boiling it down to simple utility. I've been married damned near 20 years now. I met my wife when I was 13. I gave up every dream I had of higher education, including a post-graduate education in Classical Studies at UCLA for which I didn't even have to pay. I didn't take the LSAT because my wife had a career and that was more important than pursuing my particular dreams. (and on top of that, my appendix burst literally two days before the test and she got it into her head it was fate. <.<) Now, *I'm* cringe-worthy. Talking about this stuff will make about a quarter of the people on this board uncomfortable and a solid half smirk and make fun of me. This isn't even some idle statement. There are people on this board who know me in real life. So, when I say that I find it hard to get into the sorts of trivial romances I tend to see in computer games, take me at my word my friend. I really mean it. I'm probably one of the most emo people on this board. For that reason, the best romance in any game is one with a ghost. Deionarra to be precise. Still, no hard feelings. I'm still good for both the beer and the cheese! You'll have to bring the couch, however. :Cant's big beefy grin icon:
  3. Oh, I'm around all the time, Bruce. I just tend to approve posts more than I make them, but recently I was interested in the modding thread and it got me to posting more again. I don't doubt that some things do creep me out in a natural way. For example, I don't have a problem with homosexuality as an idea, but when I see two men kissing, it does kind of disturb me on some sort of level. Does that make me bigoted? I don't think so. It's an immediate reaction that I don't choose to have. Of course, it's not like I can't get past the reaction and still enjoy the show, like Sense8 or whatnot. However, I don't think that's my reaction to romances in games. After all, I enjoy the odd romantic comedy every now and then. I don't mind romantic elements in action movies. Hell, if anything, I find gratuitous sex scenes more offputting than romance. ...And it's not like I didn't serve overseas in the navy. I don't have any problem with sex. I just think it tends to be unnecessary to progress the story in most cases. We don't tend to see a lot of urination/defecation in movies, and it's even more urgent of a natural act. The reason we don't is that it tends not to progress the central themes of the book, movie, or game. That's how I see it at any rate. On the other hand, I do appreciate the free session. If I ever meet you in real life, I'll buy you a beer (and some great imported cheese) and you can psycho-analyze me. :Cant's crazy grin icon: EDIT: Took my time so I added Bruce's name so as to make this post less confusing.
  4. Okay, that was a funny post, gk. Goes to show you there's still some entertainment value in these Romance threads, even after hundreds of pages of them for just PoE. I don't like the idea of having three different women in three different age groups writing the romances for women in every computer game. With that line of reasoning, we'll have 10 different women writing for even more variety of age groups. We'll have 50 different women divided by age, ethnicity, and skin color. We'll have to have women who have been divorced and women who are married and women who have never been married. ...And, of course, good luck getting the elvish, dwarvish, orcish etc writers to cover *those* angles! :Cant's tongue in cheek grin icon: The answer to the poor quality of romance writing in games is better romance writing, and that only requires one good writer. After all, both men and women write romantic comedy screenplays, right? And the best ones aren't done by committee. Men can and do enjoy romance elements in other stuff, but nailing it (not an innuendo) in a computer game is tougher, especially since romance is often tertiary at best to both the gameplay mechanics and the premise of most of these games. A really great computer romance would have a story built around the romantic element, but that's out the window because now games must accommodate every possible permutation of romantic involvement. Honest to God, I would rather have one really good transgender romance in a game than a dozen crappy romances across the entire spectrum. It's not that I have any interest or stake in transgender romances, but in the hands of a talented writer, what I have going in (keep your mind out of the gutter) doesn't matter nearly as much as what I find when I arrive. EDIT: forgot the icon.
  5. Sounds good, Nakia. I nevertheless refer you to my previous comments regarding my risk and my authority, which amounts to nothing. :Cant's cheeky grin icon: It's easy to speculate, but Obsidz has to foot the bill. ...And I'm advocating *for* the sub forum.
  6. Yeah, this is something folks have mentioned. I'm sure it's a bug that some folks absolutely use as a feature! :Cant's wry grin icon: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/77979-bug-list-from-first-103-playthrough/?p=1666546 http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/79231-infinite-money-in-twin-elms-and-an-extra-beagle/?p=1687286 Must. Resist. Temptation!
  7. I pushed this through, but I also reported it to get word back from the mod squad/admin. I'm just worried about copyright infringement, since I don't know for sure. However, it's really cool to see someone from the community take the time to do something for the rest of us. Many thanks, man! :Cant's beaming grin icon: Hopefully, it can stay.
  8. For my part, I actual find paladins with passive abilities the simplest to play. Of course, I expect I might get scorched by someone who finds them complex, but I enjoy my paladin. :Cant's rueful grin icon: The only warning is, she's pretty much a tank as opposed to DPS. Kind of a little bit of utility also.
  9. As far as I know, this site isn't run by Obsidian. For my part, I'm a volunteer moderator and not actually employed by Obsidian. :Cant's wry grin icon: However, I did find the following webpage. I've never used the console, but then I also didn't have any game breaking problems. At any rate, here goes: http://orcz.com/Pillars_of_Eternity:_Console_Commands
  10. In terms of the wizard, if you want more than the joinable NPC, you could make your PC a wizard (of course :Cant's rueful grin icon:) Or you can also create a joinable NPC at an inn. Steam should autopatch the game unless you've intentionally prevented it. If you *want* to have Steam automatically update, you can select that option by... here, I'll just make some pics really fast and post them.
  11. All is well. I'll make a point to keep an eye out also and I'll bump this thread with what I find... or don't. :Cant's wry grin icon:
  12. I merged your topics, grinh. When I approve threads like these, I always look to see if I can find an answer and when I do I sometimes find duplicates which always end up merged. Keep in mind that folks might not have an answer. I'm going to poke around to see if I can find something for you, but I can't always find something. If it keeps irking you, you could contact support@obsidian.net I suspect that you might be right and the best thing to do is go to a save before the assassin fight and be very careful about spell targeting and area effect abilities. Having done that myself, I can certainly sympathize. Like I said, I'll look around and see if someone more erudite than me has left a trail of breadcrumbs for the solution. EDIT: I can't seem to find your specific problem. I found a couple of issues regarding dialogue with Agosti that caused bugs, but none where he died/the player killed him. Let's hope someone with more information can give you a hand with this. :Cant's sheepish grin icon:
  13. heh, I never realized that mechanics impacted the seal spells. Just goes to show you. I didn't see it on the tool tips for the seal spells and so I thought might was much more of a governing factor for them. ...But I trust you. Hmmm, next run, there's a good chance I'll stack Durance with it then. On normal, Durance has tons of awesome healing spells that are unnecessary. I still love hurling spells, but for a lot of battles, auto-attacking does the trick with the odd AoE smackdown. I usually play normal then next hard and, if there's a setting, next hard until I get the hardest setting. It seems to me that PoE has real legs, so I've got a few runs left. I'll probably do a chanter and rogue. I'll keep Durance my mechanical monkey for the chanter run and then make my rogue the primary locksmith on that run. I like the twist on things with the skills, though. I like the fact that I can give my front line tank just enough lore to use some scrolls that are most useful where he's standing in contact with the enemy. I like the fact that I need to have a spread for stealth for all my characters. Frankly, I was so tickled by stealth that I probably pumped too much into it. On the other hand, there are some bad guys past which my party can stroll at leisure. It's just that they'll walk past the bad guys and fall victim to the trap if I don't have a mechanical engineer with them. :Cant's rueful grin icon:
  14. Give it some time, LPG. It's not that I really mind the odd bumping of a thread from time to time, but you should at least give it a day. On the other hand, It just happened that I can level up Eder and had him take Guardian Stance. He can switch in and out of Defender, but he never seems to have Guardian Stance activated. His accuracy should go down by virtue of the modal ability as I understand it. I have Sagani in my party also and she leveled up at the same time, so I gave her vicious aim. That does show the icon and the accuracy immediately goes into effect. I guess I'll look to see if the guardian stance thing is a known issue. In the meantime, I can confirm the lack of particle effects, even though the actual mechanics seem to be working for vicious aim. Ugh. If I find something when I do my search, I'll let you know. :Cant's rueful grin icon: EDIT: I can confirm that entirely exiting the game and restarting and reloading doesn't return the particle effects or sounds. The Guardian stance doesn't appear to have any effect on nearby companions. It also doesn't have an icon. So, defender works as advertised, but likewise the effects aren't in place. Well, thanks for letting me know. I certainly won't be choosing Guardian Stance now! lol EDIT 2: I decided to try deactivating the Defender modal ability before I leveled up Eder. I then took Guardian Stance and tried to activate it, but no dice. Frankly, I wasn't intending to take Guardian Stance anyway, so it doesn't really hurt me, but it is interesting.
  15. Your post didn't disappear, shnoozealarm. New members have a short period of moderated status where a moderator must approve their posts. Stick around and make yourself at home and you'll be posting without needing approval in no time! :Cant's broad grin icon:
  16. I'd vote for Hades One personally. :Cant's wolfish grin icon: R.I.P. ya glorious pain in the keister!
  17. Well, I disagree. After all, everyone *knows* that PS:T is the best cRPG evar! ...But fair is fair, so Godspeed! :Cant's broad grin icon:
  18. I haven't seen one so far. You might have to evaluate items based more on what they do than visual cues, but I'm actually happy about that. I remember... Pale Justice? in IWD? It didn't even have the blue border to show it was magical, so some folks would overlook it, but that sword was arguably the best in any IE game just for the coolness factor. :Cant's appreciative grin icon: On the other hand, dennis, I haven't gotten far into the game, so maybe I'm wrong.
  19. It's not really limited by number of edits but rather by time. If you post once and then come back later, you'll probably not be able to edit your post. As long as you're not spamming, a double post from time to time is an age old tradition for online BBSes. :Cant's wry grin icon: Good luck and happy adventuring!
  20. Once again just a friendly reminder not to call each other names and the like. Attack each other's positions and arguments rather than each other personally. Also, please be charitable. If someone says something in the heat of the moment that doesn't strictly go beyond the pale, give them a break. Assume that the vast majority of arguments here are made in good faith and address each of them with intellectual honesty. Think to yourself, is taking the hill worth leaving everyone's corpse on top of it? I swear, I'd host my own little beer summit if I could, but with the number of people in this thread, I don't know if I could afford the bar tab! :Cant's rueful grin icon:
  21. Because sometimes the scene isn't dramatic enough to warrant the change. I really like the change in certain scenes, though, like the... well, no spoilers from me, but there are a few scenes early on that I think the music really accentuates. ...But, no, I do sometimes want the music a bit more in the background. Of course, my favorite music is the background music just walking around and whatnot. <.< :Cant's sheepish grin icon: I'm only early in the game, but once it quiets down I'm going to spend every moment I can playing. I had high hopes, and it looks like I won't be disappointed. Still reserve judgment, but everything looks (and sounds!) awesome so far.
  22. I've felt compelled to pitch in around here, otherwise all of my free time would be spent playing. I'm at level three right now and I've only scratched the surface. I haven't even been in every dwelling in the first place we arrive. Sorry to sound obscure, just being careful of spoils! Nice tags, Kylania. :Cant's huge grin icon:
  23. I couldn't see anything particularly spoilerish in your post, Grëgo. Might as well leave it here. :Cant's grin and shrug icon:
  24. Actually, now that we're not calling each other scum and the whatnot, the thread has the sort of debate I always like. Gamer geeks having a heated and spirited debate without holding it against one another. Hell, even the two or three people who've engaged me personally in this debate have earned a beer that I would gladly buy them in real life if we were to meet. Either that or a water with a twist if alcohol is offensive. :Cant's big beefy grin icon: The trick is not to have personal animosity over a limerick we probably wouldn't even know existed if not for the controversy over it.
