  1. A bunch of crap that sounds like a 13 year old wrote it.

    Piece of advice?

    Dial it back down, kiddo.

You're 23 and you come off like a 12 year old. I don't think anyone here takes what you have to say with any credibility. This may be the internet and you don't give a crap what we think...

But telling people to STFU is right out of the 13 year old Counter-Strike Forums.

Is that how you want to come off? Oops. Too late.

And as far as trolls... You're the one who comes on here with your high and mighty BS like *we* actually care what *you* have to say. Bye, bye!

  2. Oh really? Guess what! I don't really care much at all what you think.

All I care about is that I got my own problems fixed, if what I did to fix my problems help you fix yours, then goody-goody! If it doesn't, then don't start a pissing contest with me about it!

Got it? I don't have time to listen to your crying attitude because my fixes won't work for your specific hardware.

    Are you high? Seriously.

You come here and post what is an arrogant post full of a bunch of crap... Like Craftsman and Hades_One... And expect us to fall down and worship your "expert" advice?

Please. You're either drunk, high, or an attention hound, kiddo.

    Drive on through. Next...

  3. To be blunt... Proprietary systems like Dell, HP and Compaq aren't really ideal for gaming.

I know that a lot of gamers who are in the same position you are in have no choice but to "do with what you've got" and that is fine. The only reason I bring this up is because the amount of performance you get out of a specific game (patched/optimzied, or not) is equal to the hardware components that are running it more than any tweaks you can do if we are going to get right down to it.

So, I'm sure you've heard it before and I say this only to get it out of the way and with no malice toward you... Eventually, if you plan on getting more into gaming in the future you will eventually have to save up and get a system that is more built for gaming from the ground up (building your own system like a lot of us do, or buying something like Alienware).

Okay. That's obviously what you can't do.

    Now... What CAN you do?

As far as KOTOR2 itself goes... There are a lot of tweaks, settings, drivers and other things you can try -- Take a look at the "Solutions to Problems" Thread stickied at the top of Forum to see what others have done as a place to get started. There are various commands you can play around with in your swkotor2.ini; drivers you can download and test (betas; third-party like Omega) and a host of other things.

However, overall, the only thing you (and many others with better hardware) can do is wait for the forthcoming patch and hope and pray that the developers nail some of the major techincal bugs and optimize this engine more for ALL graphics (Nvidia and ATI) card chipsets because in the end...

No amount of tweaking certain hardware can squeeze performance out of a baddly coded (ported in this case) game/engine and it will be up to the devs to correct this in the near future, hopefully.

  4. Well then, it's a fix for people who don't have to insist on the abseloute latest and most expensive stuff ;)

I could've bought an X800, but look what I'd have gotten for the trouble! I wouldn't be able to fix my gameplay problems. ;)

Hehe...Sorry if you're latest and greatest isn't turning out to be oh-so-great, but I didn't promise this'd work for everyone, now did I? ;)

Give me a break. You just blew ANY credibility you *might* of had.

Some of your suggestions won't work for a lot of technical reasons too numerous to go into here (like copying the swkotor.ini from KOTOR into KOTOR2 because they are NOT the same engine).

And Hades... Stop trolling this forum. You aren't helping and half the stuff that comes out of your mouth (your posts) isn't informative, or remotely helpful.

  5. Not only am I hoping for a good patch that fixes a lot of the bugs...

But that adds the restored content that had to be cut that fleshes out and actually FINISHES this game.

Go to the Spoilers Board and read the "Cut-Content Thread" and you will all see how much of a truly kick-ass game this could have been if LA hadn't gone down the Darkside Path of instant gratification and greed (Christmas '04) and let Obsidian just finish the game and release it NOW (as in March; April) instead of Janurary.

I know the game is basically a post-alpha, pre-beta... But I am more upset about the fact they sold us an unfinished game. Period.

    Also...

The person whom said the games industry is the ONLY industry on the entire planet (aside from ilegal ones like black market weapons and such) where there is no accountability by the seller for selling incomplete and faulty (buggy) products is right, unfortnately.

Car manufactuers or even toaster-oven makers couldn't get away with what game publishers and developers do because there are government and third-party standards (safety and quality-wise) that those products MUST meet before they can be sold.

It is only going to get worse with big publishers gobbling up dev houses left and right and showing crappy, mainstream games down our throat that aren't even that good to begin with, but that aren't even finished or technically sound as well.

  6. ummm... im stuck in the part where you first get your wookie. i have to open a door to let my jedi in but for some reason i cannot find any possible way to do this. Maybe this is a bug? or am i missing something?

If you start out in the arena after killing Mira...

Go up the ramp... go through the door right in front of you... Go right and keep heading straight and there will be a large door at the far end of the second room. Simply click on it to open (It will give you this little computer dialogue about escape routes and stuff. Eventually, it will open the door) and switch back to your main Player Character.

  7. There are huge glitches in the entire Jek Jek Tar sequence:

    1) Mira and everyone claims you need an environmental suit... Yet when she enters (once she knocks your player out) she isn't wearing one, yet Visquis tells her to remove it so he can speak to her?!

    This is obviously sloppy coding.

    2) You can go into the Jek Jek Tar -- If you take the sidequest to get the Captain to return to his crew -- With just a breath mask (that you should have gotten on Peragus) and never take any damage whatsoever.

You can also use the breathmask in the Jek Jek Tar when you assault the place and don't even have to use the Jedi Breathing power that uses up Force Points.

I don't know if this is a glitch, or intended since it is obvious the game is designed where the Jek Jek Tar is supposed to poision your character, so that is probably why you can use a breath mask even if you're supposed to use Force Breathe.

    3) Some people have reported that if you equip a breath mask before the cut-scene where Mira talks to you and gasses you... That your character actually won't fall unconscious and the game basically stops (it won't continue past that point).

This game needs a serious patch and is just an example of a bad console to PC port in my opinion.

  8. And as for entertainment being a means of escape from reality, well, something's got to be very wrong with your life if you need to escape from it. They might as well give in to the blissful peace that sniffing glue provides.

Now, you're just being beligerent and arrogant, quite frankly.

People read books and see plays, go to concerts and see movies... And play games... As a form of entertainment and relaxation and to escape for a few hours.

That doesn't make them... And me which your comment was addressed to... "Inferior" or whatever you are claiming you are since you apparently never "escape" and view playing games and other recreational endeavors as "work".

    I give up.

You don't really want to hear what I have to say... Or what others have to say... Unless it fits into your particular world view, so I am not going to respond to this forum anymore.

    Fanboys and fangirls roll on...

  9. pcie is "technically faster"  but its kinda new so it hasnt been fully explored yet

of course a X300 PCIE is not faster than a 9800PRO AGP so the rule "PCIE faster than AGP" doesnt apply, at least not in " graphical meaning " but if the PCIE has a bigger bandwith then it means that it could be faster if the whole bandwith of the PCIE was used

What is interesting is that at the current time, game devs don't even use half of the AGP bandwith available (4x, 8x).

    They don't.

The day they start using all of that and then start squeezing more out of PCI-E... We're going to be getting close to cinema, CGI photo-realistic graphics like you see in Star Wars and LOTRS...

  10. I appreciate the efforts you guys are putting into it (a poster even told me how to edit the executable to allow 100 Hz refresh rates)...

But this is pure evidence that this game was not properly QAed at Lucas Arts.

Fans should NOT have to go in with a third-party, Save Game Editor and change variables to just be able to PLAY the game as it was intended. That is inexcusable in my book on both OE and LA's part.

I know the game was rushed (hence the cut-content and crappy ending), but again, stuff like this is just sloppy and proves this game is more of a post-Alpha, pre-Beta version than a retail release.

    Sorry for the rant.

Once agian, thank you to the dedicated fans who are doing what OE and LA supposedly get paid millions to do.

  11. I guess people aren't cut out for tragedies anymore.

Because real life, if you haven't been keeping up, is pretty Goddamn tragic right now.

War in Iraq... Possibly another war looming with Iran... Families and loved ones being split up/killed, the Economy (in the U.S.) is tanking, high unemployment, Civil Liberties at stake (Same-Sex Marriage; Abortion)... Leaders who are in control should not be in control (U.S.) and are taking this country down a dangerous path...

It's almost as if "Revenge of the Sith" is some kind of pseudo-prophecy...

So, you can hopefully see why people aren't all that into "tragedy" right about now.

For the record, I like tragedies and thought the sacrifice of some of your party members would have given the game more emotional impact because as of right now the game is very shallow and empty (due to the cut-content) towards the end, let alone, makes no sense because of the obvious story gaps and plot holes.

So, in that sense... From a game sense... I would have liked to see the sacrifices included... But from a real world gamer -- someone outside the game -- You also have to remember why people play games, watch movies and read books: To escape.

  12. Well, force sound did seem to do the trick.  Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it.

Be aware that if you use "Force Software" you are in fact running in Software mode, so the sound quality is going to be less (probably why the footsteps are lower) and the stress on the CPU will be greater.

It shouldn't matter if you have a fast processor... But you might as well have not spent money on a Soundblaster (or whatever sound card you may have) if you decide to use onboard sound like this.

  13. How is he lying?  I get 35-45 fps @1280x960 with 4xAA and 16xAF with softshadows and framebuffer effects on.  If he's lying about 15-20 fps being playable, remember this is a crpg, not a fisrt person shooter, so that kind of frame rate is more than enough!

It is still jerky any way you slice it from either a technical stand point and just watching the screen and how smooth the motion is (or isn't in this case).

30 FPS is the bare minimum for full motion video. 60 is preferred (double the FPS rate) since as I explained earlier in this thread that CRT monitors have to draw EVERY frame and there is no motion blurr/interlacing and that is why you can more readily spot slower performance.

Also... Being a gamer for many years who has played all sorts of games from flight sims to first person shooters, to RPGs to RTS...

I can personally tell when something looks choppy. Most people can. Again, the reason it appears choppy is because it is pulling less than 30 FPS.

Hades claims it looks fine at 15 to 20.

To me, it looks like strobe-light show at that level.

I called him a liar on that because if he thinks that is "fine" then I'd hate to see what he thinks is "bad" -- 1, 2 FPS perhaps? And I am not just saying this to be an ass.

  14. Those clicks you hear?

They are hammering your monitors flyback circuit.

    That is VERY BAD.

You are shortening the life of your monitor substantially.

The best solution is to "suck it up" and just play at the max resolution of 85 Hz to keep the monitor from reacting this way.

It sucks that the developers didn't actually "port" this game correctly, all other bugs and glitches aside, since anyone who either designs or plays PC video games in the last few years knows that 100 Hz or more is the referred refresh rate for gamers and anyone who sits in front of a PC monitor for extended periods of time (it's better on your eyes).

  15. (yes, i know it is possbile to complete the game in the grey-matter area, but there are simply no ADVANTAGES to this). I think there should have been some sort of advantage with the 'grey-area' to really link up with what Kreia says throughout the game.

I think you nailed it on the head, at least for me.

The basic storyline and philosophy TSL is espousing is basically one of FREE CHOICE and FREEDOM (from the Force according to Kriea)... And the only way one would foreseeabily be able to free themselves from The Force if they are a Force Sensative (Jedi or Sith) is to simply just not do anything the The Froce tells them... Like choose NOT to be a LS Jedi, or be a DS Sith.

However... The game is not constructed this way.

There is NO benefit to "not doing anything" (taking the Neutral stance) no matter how hard you try.

I've never actually done a Neutral side play through on TSL or KOTOR, but it seems it would be pretty boring because you basically don't/wouldn't take any side-quests and say, "I don't want to get involved"... Yet that is the meat and potatoes of any RPG: Doing quests and other things that further your character's goals and the storyline (either dark or light motivations).

If they had incorporated payoffs that actually rewarded Neutral play throughs... THAT would have been even more ambitious than just attempting a Neutral storyline in my opinion because that WOULD be hard to do with this current engine (they could rewrite it) and how the SW universe is set up.

Esoterically, even the Neutral play through would have to have elements of LS and DS because that is just the nature of performing various tasks. You may be doing it for your own gain, but you will inevitably either be forced to pick a side eventually and or what you do, regardless if it is in your own interest, will have consequences, both light and dark.

THIS (above) is what I think TSL is trying to tackle with TSL.

It's just that the game engine is holding this back because of its absolute LS and DS construction.

  16. Even with all the cut-content aside...

TSL suffers mainly from trying to base an entire story that is grounded in a concrete and established universe around something that is very abstract... The Force... And then trying to construct a fantasy RPG around it that uses absolutes (LS/DS; Influence) in order to tell the story.

Even if Malhavok's interpretation is correct and closest to what Chris Avellone intended to convey as the author...

How well is this message actually conveyed in the game as you play through it?

In other words, is the story Malhavok summerized A) Interesting enough to make a game out of and B) Can it be executed properly given the limitations of an RPG and the current engine (LS/DS; Influence) that OE used?

I believe this is one of the major reasons why people either love this game or hate it, cut-content aside.

People have argued this story is done brilliantly while others argue that it makes no sense. I think it's a bit of the two mixed together if we are going to be completely honest. I also think it stems from the fact that I believe people are trying to compare it as a whole and not separate the story from the game itself and vice versa.

    I will be honest.

As much as I am a current critic of this game's storyline... It sounds like a good storyline ON PAPER (if not a little too cerebral and abstract for general audiences).

However, this is my whole point.

It sounds really good on paper... But then how does one translate a storyline like that into an RPG that is constructed with the limitations of absolute LS and DS choices and Influences -- Regardless of the Neutral stance; Overall, you must pick a side in order to play the KOTOR games to their fullest if we are going to be honest.

This is where I think the storyline runs into trouble and where the "split" between people who love the game and those who love the story emerges.

People will of course say they love both the game and the story equal well... And in fact, how can you argue you like one without the other?

Well, I am doing just that.

I like TSL as a game in terms of CRPG with subquests, the LS/DS choices and other mechanical gameplay elements (combat; stats; etc)... But from a strictly story perspective, have a problem with it because I feel that it doesn't mix with the game mechanics given what the story wants to address and the foundations the SW universe were based on.

George Lucas said he created "The Force" to get young people (this was the '70s) to believe in something again, something "higher" and bigger than themselves. He never publically stated it is meant to represent "God" or relgions of any kind, but most people can draw this conclusion fairly easily.

What TSL does is try and expound on that... What is essentially a pretty open-ended concept, reglious overtones or not... But it is restricted to a game engine that measures things in absolutes (DS/LS; Influence) and this is where the two are in conflict and why they are working at cross-purposes a lot of time from my perspective IF you choose to take both the game and the story as a whole entity and not separate them.

  17. I don't know the *exact* amount of Persuade needed... It might actually be a floating DC depending on the situation... But Persude and Awareness are the top two skills I always put points in when I level up -- No matter if I have to sacrifice others.

Having a high INT of around 16 is also recommended not just for its mods, but because some of the more important and interesting pieces to the game's overall story (like Kriea) can only be unlocked with a combination of Influence and high Awareness.

Also, using the Cross-Class Skill feats (Repair, Computer, Security) boots these up and helps your lowest ones.

You'll also use Persuade and Awareness a lot for some of sidequests if you want to avoid bloodshed if playing LS and want complete LS mastery. You can have a high persuade, use Dominate Mind (level up) and use Force Persuade and can get even Exchange bosses like Saquesh and others to simply lay off the refugees and others they are persecuting and the game gives you even more XP (1000) if you do it non-violently (but I am not sure about that; haven't played DS yet).

Also, TSL uses your actual skills more than KOTOR did in that they also trigger more dialogue options and "inter-game" upgrades while on board the Ebon Hawk. This addition I like because it gives the player more of an incentive to talk to their party members instead of just going place to place and only interacting with those in your current party.

  18. Disciple is the Ryan Seacrest of KOTOR.

He is a Metrosexual Jedi :-

It's funny that he IS such a good fighter... But I think this is OE's version of a "sensative male".

It is obivous his character inspiration was part paladin, part Wesley from "Angel" (the British accent)... Which is why he is such a good fighter, but also "cool" in a passive, unassuming way as well as bieng highly educated in the Jedi Arts.

  19. The main reason... From a strictly gameplay perspective is... It is a video game and the whole point of it is to start out a "zero" and become a "hero" by the game's end. This isn't anything new to the world of (sci-fi) fantasy RPGs as we all know.

However, I also understand your concerns in that a lot of the dialogues with various NPCs actually did contradict each other... But not in the "this is one person's POV and this is another" sense. Some of the dialogues were just sloppy and you could tell they were rushed and not checked for continuity.

For example, you can speak to someone and get tons of info. from them in one sitting... Yet you go back and speak to them and it is as if they have forgotten who you are and you're both meeting for the first time.

I know this is more of a technological limitation (we don't have emergent AI that actually "thinks" and remembers things yet; we have to use pre-built scripts), but it really kills the immersiveness a lot of times and this is where a lot of the contradictions come out if you're actively paying attention to the story.

    Also...

The whole "lightsaber components" is another gameplay device. It's basically a subquest and you have to get pieces A, B, and C before you complete it.

It only falls apart if you use real world logic in that even a 60 year old war vet can field strip a side arm/rifle (of their era) and put it back together without thinking twice... Even if they actively try and forget. This part I agree with.

Also, not to be a jerk... But I don't think people realize how different the military and what being in war really is from every day life. I haven't been in one myself, but my family is a military family who has actively served in major conflicts (excluding this one) and it IS a way of life.

It's no exactly like you see in the movies, but it literally becomes a part of who you are and helps defines you. Especially, when you are young as it determines where you live (on base or off; home or abroad), how you live (peacetime vs. war) and essentially shapes your views on a lot of things that "normal" people, civilians, don't have an opportunity to experience, good or bad.

I also think this is something this game is trying to hint at... But at the same times, it is almost working at cross purposes because SW is about escapism and fantasy and not trying to be a reflection of the real world in terms of politics, consequences for such actions like war and the like (at least, in my opinion).

On the same note, I like it when entertainment tries to address these things, like the film "Hotel Rawanda"... But I just think the SW universe should stick to being more escapist and fantasy driven then try and be more "deep" as TSL tries and again, this is why some things stand out as being inconsistent or detract from the immersiveness the devs are trying to put the player into.

  20. 1st play through (LS; Jedi Counselor/Master) - 29

2nd - (LS; Jedi Sentinel/Watchman) - 25 (stopped half way through game to try new strategems)

3rd (current) - (LS; Jedi Guardian/Weapon Master with 16 INT; High Dex; 12 and 11 WIS/CHAR) - Currently at level 17 and only done one planet (Nar Shadda). No infinite XP glitches. MUCH slower progression, so far...

I agree that the level cap needs to be put back on. The D&D rules have it for a reason and level 20 is actually supposed to represent the entire lifetime a character spends working toward their ultimate mastery (like with the Prestige classes like NWN has). The trend, unfortunately, in PC D&D games is to go from "zero to hero" in less than 24 hours to give casual gamers a sense of accomplishment.

  21. I usually, *usually* split up the Jedis, one for each location.

    Duxn:

Mira (as lead), Disciple/Handmaiden/Visas, Atton (either Jedi or normal).

I think the devs "intend" the player to choose Mira because of her ability to not set off mines. You can use her on Goto's Yacht, but I think they want to give the player more chances to use her... And her character actually is the leader-type (assertive; smart yet still compassionate at the right times).

    Onderon:

Exile, Kriea, Visas or Handmaiden as Jedi ("This Party's Over!") -- Obviously, the developers are hoping you'll use Bao-Dur because of the shields on the sky ramp, but a single lightsaber stab like in Episode I and they fall quite easily.

  22. Cackling maniacally like Palpatine at all of the responses to this thread ;)

    Seriously.

I mean that. For some strange, morbid reason reading some of your responses just had me busting my gut. I don't know if it is because of the way some of you wrote them, or what you actually did. But I seriously can't stop laughing now. That is truly Darksided!

  23. That's how I killed her! She can hurt them, but they don't die... ;)

I actually did this too on one of my play throughs.

I purposefully ran out of her quarters and she chased me down the hall to the main area (with the astrogation sphere) and T3 rolled in and Goto was there and they BOTH started firing on her - LOL.

What is even more funny is that she then started to attack Goto which gave me the chance to stim up, use Force Engery Shield and then start Master Flurrying away while she never once looked back in my direction and kept trying to slice away at Goto.
