  1. the word from the developers is that all the characters except revan and the robots are dead. apparently bastila and juhani will turn up as ghosts a la obi wan. but not jolee because he wasn't strong enough in the light side. canderous and carth apparently died in battle shortly after the star forge. and mission and the wookie joined a travelling circus and died in a strange juggling-related accident.
  2. the idea that the PC shouldn't have any 'free will' as to key decisions in an RPG is silly nonsense. this debate reminds me of all those dumb D&D alignment threads on the Bio boards, filled with newbs who think that D&D alignment is destiny.
  3. only if i could kill them. besides, one muppet planet in the star wars universe (endor) is enough.
  4. a cookie monster sith lord would be more believable.
  5. no, no more yoda-types. in fact, keep KOTOR2 entirely muppet-free.
  6. huh, you manage to contradict yourself in the space of one paragraph: if everyone in the "western world" (and i've no honest idea what you mean by this) thinks in black and white, then you'd expect that to be reflected in the decisions that they make on a daily basis. in other words, the decisions in KOTOR are entirely consistent with "acting as you think you should act in that particular situation, based on your knowledge, your personality and feelings", because star wars is that kind of black and white game. so either your premise or your conclusion is wrong. take your pick.
  7. what could go wrong? ewoks. p.s. odyssey is an iteration of aurora.
  8. huh. i don't understand why people liked jolee so much in KOTOR1. i found him to be insufferablely folksy. i would gladly have killed him except i was playing a light-side PC and it would have lost me brownie points wid the force. if they do bring him back in KOTOR2, i hope it's something apposite to his character, like with his head on a pike.
  9. 'Page Dr. Kevorkian' dull. episode one dull.
  10. exactly. mission was killable, therefore she was legal. the german video-game policy on sex/violence is "alt genug bluten, alt genug schlachten", which translates roughly as "old enough to bleed, old enough to butcher". or "wenn es gras auf dem taktabstand gibt, spielen sie kugel!" ("if there's grass on the pitch, play ball!").
  11. why do some people seem to think that all choices in a game should have equal weight? many things come down to a single choice, despite everything that has gone before. the final countdown. crunch time. the moment of truth. whatever you call it, everyone's familiar with the concept. so why is it so hard for some people to grasp that KoTOR was set up that way?
  12. huh, looks like the new Bio CRPG is called dragon age and will also be announced at E3. hard to believe they passed up the chance to do KOTOR2 to make something with such a lame title.
  13. this is true. KOTOR2 should have more NPCs that look like adriana lima.
  14. no less than any other literary prize. indeed, as a bunch of academics they are more committed to intellectual integrity than most. there's almost always some degree of horse-trading in these things, and the problem with the nobel selection committee is that they are a dull uninspired bunch who are trying to judge for posterity. their recent picks have been slightly better, but overall it's a prize that's become burdened by its own pretensions.
  15. is that one of those star wars novels? i haven't heard of it.
  16. but they should definitely put in the ability to play with the females...
  17. hey, maybe the twist will be that in order to evade capture by the Sith Lords you go to a mining facility that floats above the clouds, in a kind of "cloud city" (let's call it Respin). it turns out that the head of the facility is an old friend of one of the NPCs, a scoundrel who used to own the Ebon Hawk (let's call him Blando Tarlissian) but lost it in a card game to the NPC. Blando offers to fix the Hawk, but the party have to stay in the "cloud city" for an unspecified period. in the meantime, one of your droids goes missing (the prissy protocol droid, called P-3C0) and one of the other NPCs (a sassy princess named Jleia) begins to suspect that not everything is as it seems. then Blando invites the party to dinner, but when the party enters the dining hall they discover THE BIG TWIST! ... actually, i haven't figured out what the twist should be yet, but i figure Obsidian will be able to think of something...
  18. LOL. here you are trying to argue against the defining moment of Vader's redemption by saying what? that he had no choice in the matter? if Vader's didn't have a choice, then his act would have been as meaningless as killing the emperor by accident. but i admire your obstinance in the face of the blindingly obvious. the force slider in SW is fine as a general concept, but too many newbs make the mistake of thinking of it as another D&D-style alignment slider - another game device that cripples roleplay.
  19. huh, you could just as easily complain that none of Darth Vader's twentysomething years worth of dark side choices mattered, only the one to throw the emperor down the reactor shaft mattered. that's redemption for ya. and it's far better that it plays out like that. otherwise you are sacrificing story, characterization and roleplay for the sake of a stupid game mechanic.
  20. no, not really. i wrote: and in reply you asked: and later i posted: and still you suggested: anyone, in other words, who hadn't seen any of those movies, etc. no kidding? since KOTOR was the first game to feature revan, that hardly counts as much of an insight.
  21. why not the old 'wheels within wheels' routine? most CRPGs just do the one twist, big reveal, and then a fight. and it's getting pretty old. with KOTOR2, you could have a series of twists so infernal, you end up not knowing right from wrong c.f. the current season of 24, et al. huh, that reminds me of a joke: Q: what's the worst thing that a sadist can do to a masochist? A: nothing.
