Suggestion: Forfeit... almost there, but not quite
Deekow posted a question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
I love having forfeit, so thank you a thousand times. You have it right by going through the blessings and refreshing hand. However, the reason forfeit "works" is that you're essentially doing nothing every turn until the clock runs out (excepting the final scenario of each full adventure path). It shouldn't interrupt a check, which it currently does. Example, I was just playing Seoni, encountered a trap there's no way I could have beaten and had no cards in hand to prevent "death". By the rules, I should have been done in. However, I was able to forfeit before rolling dice, and since I had a full hand before taking damage, I lived through it. This will mostly only really matter with Permadeath, but if you acknowledge that you should draw up to full hand size when forfeiting, then you understand that forfeiting shouldn't circumnavigate death in the first place. -
If you're on an Apple, Testflight will alert you to a new build being available. Uninstall and then install that. Android never pushes info to me on this, but if you check Google Play, it will either have the option to "open" or "install". If Install is there, uninstall first and go at it. For beta 2, it took a few hours for my Android to have it available. Not until the next afternoon on my iPad.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeet. Lots of stuff here, dev team, very nice. Looking forward to breaking it.

I actually like it holding on the card being revealed to have interaction before minimizing. That being said, I do agree that the click card to reveal needs to be eliminated. If you click the character, that should be enough to move through revealing the card automagically. Further, by clicking next, that should also eliminate needing to click the next character altogether.

Closed Beta Issues Thread
Deekow replied to Mikey Dowling's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
I'm sorry the programmers just told me this bug is specific to you and might take a few weeks to sort out... No no... I also experienced this bug, and it makes me just so mad, good golly. So mad. Few weeks? Fine, I'll go keep playing Pathfinder Adventures, but tell you that I'm playing something different. -

Suggestion: Quest Mode save game management
Deekow posted a question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
I've ran into a couple showstoppers in story mode that have permanently ended that run as the save game state is always in error and can't be recovered; so far, these are all documented either in my own, or others, bug reports. Today, however, I ran into one (a currently documented problem) in Quest mode. My quest mode is now 100% borked, and closing/restarting game returns to that borked game state. With Story mode, if this occurs, at least I can delete the save game and start a new one. I lose my progress, it's annoying, but it's a test, and those things happen. There's a trust we have with the developers that those problems will be minimized. With Quest mode, I have to uninstall completely and reinstall if I have any hope of being able to play/test Quest mode. Not only is this annoying, but with the recovery from story mode, I lose one game; with uninstalling (currently), that wipes out ALL of my games. Further, if my understanding from another thread is correct, the login should also hold your save game information at some point near in the future. If you have a corrupt game in Quest, and the save goes to the cloud, you are permanently unable to recover from that. I do understand that the bugs will mostly be gone by launch (knock on wood), but it's naive to think that there's ever 0% chance that a game stopping bug won't be encountered in Quest mode again in the future by anyone. Uninstalling (at best) or permanently losing their ability to play Quest (at worst) are not acceptable solutions. I would suggest that Quest and Story mode save games be managed from the same interface, and they just store the game type as additional information. However, any solution to this problem would suffice, even *gulp* the worst acceptable case of some way to simply delete Quest progress.- 1 reply

Cross platform playing
Deekow replied to Hannibal_PJV's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
I'd surmise that in order for cloud saves to work, there would need to be better save management... as I'm about to post in a general recommendation, actually. -
Poll: Dice roll preference
Deekow replied to Sylvanta's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
Tapping of any type would be fine. The best option I'd choose would be the one not listed "tap dice or tap button". I chose swipe dice or tap button as a close alternative to that choice. -
I ran into this as well. You have to actually drag the ceiling card from the thumbnail to the open main play area for it to "play" correctly. Took me a couple minutes to finally figure that out.

Quality of Life Suggestions
Deekow replied to Borissimo's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
I would recommend looking deeper into this. I agree it should be 100% consistent. But I would push that the button being consistent be where that goes. It started as novel and fun, but quickly faded. It was humdrum and boring for awhile. Now, after testing for quite a bit, it's just outright annoying. If I'm alone in this, I'd understand; but based on feedback here, as well as discussing it at length with several people, this is going to annoy a lot of people. Please, at the very least, consider it and do specific research into testing this very consideration... if it is actually annoying to some, it will go a long way towards losing adoption (short and long term), and players that initially love the game may have that mechanic that's repeated so many times drive them from it. As someone who always tries to be entirely objective (and even going so far as to respect the decision I feel strongest about in regards to culling with disagreement), understand that I really feel you're missing the mark in a far more general sense here. -
Updated Release Date: April 26
Deekow replied to Stuart Roch's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
I was thinking about my "please don't release this as early as you planned because [a, b, c, d]" post all the way home from work today. I'm pretty sure this announcement was just a pre-emptive strike against my diatribe. Well played (and seriously, thank you for taking the lesser of two evils here). -
Quality of Life Suggestions
Deekow replied to Borissimo's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
That's right! It wouldn't have to be the exact initial location view, just something that lets me see all of the locations and adjacencies without having to scroll around the map. Ohhhh, that makes sense! So if I understand correctly, the fact that the Retaliation wildcard is a manual roll, is a bug? Culling all the stuff in my initial post that doesn't make sense, here's what's left (i.e., things that there is some agreement on): - A roll button: some like it, some don't, fitting it in the UI might be the hard part - Option to forfeit a scenario: it's coming someday. Yay! - Menu option to auto-skip cutscenes so that you don't have to pass 2 loading screens - Some method of negating the need to scroll around the map Sorry, but all culling is automatic and random, so 15% of your original post will be ignored. -
Trust me... it's far more clear than when the game originally released. You don't have to make sense of it, just do what's instructed to do at each step and you're golden. Prior to the current phase order, there was considerable ambiguity in how "when you encounter" was handled. Encountering is the encapsulation of the entire series of phases of the encounter; the 'acting' is just the check itself.

Quality of Life Suggestions
Deekow replied to Borissimo's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
Roll ButtonWholeheartedly agree with this. The novelty wears off by the end of the first scenario. Option to auto-roll rechargeWholeheartedly disagree with this. There are quite a few times throughout a campaign that you do NOT want to auto-roll a recharge check. Moving cards out to play themDisagree here, mostly. There are a few cards that you can play in different ways... if you put an automated priority, it will inevitably be contrary to the priority you want in some cases. I would settle for far more consistency than we currently see with playing cards, though. Option to forfeit a scenarioAgreed. Menu to skip cutscenes/dialogueSlightly agree... but there's a skip button on all that stuff anyway, would prefer development time spent elsewhere. Starting location view instead of mapAgree and disagree. I LOVE the map, I love that it adds context to the locations and adds theme that was missing from card game. It also really helps justify the 'adjacent locations' for legendary. That said, I really do hope for a better way to use that... it gets really chaotic, especially with more characters, swiping all around, useless information abounding. I don't think the starting locations is the way to go, since it invalidates the map, but I'll agree that something(s) needs to be done here. Auto-roll diceDisagree-ish. I hate the game automating dice rolls, even the ones it does now. I think having a roll button would help alleviate the mechanism. However, as much as I feel option-creep is a bad thing and not everything should have a menu toggle, this would be a good place to have that set per device setting, as I realize this is entirely preference based and doesn't actually have potential to affect the outcome, just the timing. Arcane/Divine spell filtersDisagree. Given how the reward/deck building interface is built, I think the dynamic filtering would potentially introduce more problems than it would solve. This would also open up other demands to other filter types that really aren't necessary. My 0.82 cents. -

Bug: Goblin Bonus Modifier Lost
Deekow replied to LordGek's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
I had something similar happen to me yesterday, but I wasn't really paying much attention to what was going on so I didn't submit a problem I only had half the details for. Will have to check that out again today and see if I can reproduce your issue or any other strange behavior. -
Bug... maybe 2... character selection
Deekow replied to Deekow's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
Starting to understand the saved character stuff a bit better after picking at 'bug 2' a bit. I understand now after re-reading the other posts a few times about experienced characters being tied to the account, not the save. Given that each box can have multiple characters in multiple states, and then you can have those experienced characters in other saves... this is way too confusing a manner to organize the characters. The UI goes a LONG way to helping a player 'understand' the exact opposite of what's actually occurring. I would recommend revamping the character select system to be more informative through UI in the first place, and then add a menu option for experienced character management, which would reinforce the idea that the experienced characters transcend each individual save and it would make more sense that I'm adding specific versions of each character, especially when I haven't bothered to rename them (which is an extraneous process, not an expected one). -
Bug... maybe 2... character selection
Deekow replied to Deekow's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
Also, for the record, this was a brand new save when I started the party. In regards to Bug 2 (above), it seems it's maintaining my "experienced" character state cross-saves, as each character is in the exact same available/unavailable state on another brand new save as this one. I had deleted the save game noted above, and started a brand new one. The party was already selected at the bottom with the same 6 characters I had in the party at the time I deleted the original save. -
Beta build 2 known issues list?
Deekow replied to Deekow's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
Ah, yeah, it's attached to the patch notes. Not the most clear of mechanisms, but it'll do. But, it doesn't look updated at all. Thanks, by the way. -
Bug... maybe 2... character selection
Deekow posted a question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
I don't quite still understand the party selection process fully, so I can't identify exactly where the bug is, but I'm certain there's at least one, maybe two bugs going on here... Pass & Play OFF, Permadeath ON Story Mode Characters in party, in order, from start until now: Valeros, Lem, Merisiel, Amiri, Ezern, Seoni Location irrelevant, game state in post-failure with death before rewards selection occurs (or was skipped entirely and this is bug 3; edit: it was actually skipped) Turn order irrelevant Scenario: Poison Pill (normal), just failed No card encountered Didn't occur during gameplay No check applicable No monster applicable Screenshot here Had just failed Poison Pill, Seoni was killed. Game immediately went to character selection after scenario ended (no rewards selected yet). Seoni's spot is expectedly empty at bottom of screen. Bug 1: With selection on "experienced" list, I cannot scroll right under any circumstances Bug 2: I am able to select Harsk, Kyra, Seoni. From the experienced list, I'm surprised that I can select Seoni. I am unable to select Lini (greyed out). Given that Lini is in the same state as Harsk and Kyra (never been played), they should be in the same state, regardless of my understanding of how or why experienced list is built. I am unable to see the state of Sajan and Seelah due to being unable to slide (if Harsk, Kyra are selectable, Sajan and Seelah should too). Bug 3: After logging the bugs, I moved on, and the deck reorganization phase was in fact skipped entirely. Going into the deck building from the world map, all characters still alive had their decks reverted to how they were at the beginning of the scenario (note: NOT the default decklists). The cards that Seoni acquired through the scenario were in the 'available' section (and only those cards, specifically). All cards acquired by other characters were lost entirely. "New" list is just fine. Edit: worth noting that I own all characters, and they all show correctly as owned on the store. -
Can you please provide a list of known issues as of build 2 for beta? I don't want to waste everyone's time posting something already known, and I don't keep laborious notes on everyone else's threads

'When you encounter' effects are the very first part of the encounter phase, and occur prior to the evasion step. The rules are actually readable this beta build from the Rules link.

How Character Persistence, Parties and the "Box" works.
Deekow replied to StormbringerGT's question in Pathfinder Adventures: Closed Beta
This is exactly the kind of decision I LOVE about PACG. At some point, long before you get to culling, you HAVE to come to terms with this being a card game and not a role playing game. Simply drawing a card, rolling some dice, and so on is also quite gamey... But, those of us that love the game, have accepted that and fit it into what brings us joy for the game. I disagree about the mechanics being automatic... the tactical and strategic elements of the game are crucial for the groups I play with and I prefer them to feel less automatic; otherwise the game gets very passive and doesn't hold our attention as well. You can disagree, but calling it stupid is a bit judgmental by proxy insults those that like the mechanic. But, beyond all that, I'm not necessarily going anywhere, I'm just disappointed by the (understandable) design decision and don't feel it's as true a representation of the card game as I would have been willing (and excited) to pay for. I'll still play, but it's not anything I would buy... since I can still play, I'll do so, but in a more passive fashion. I do still feel the game is solid enough that I would demonstrate it to others that may actually be ok with decisions I disagree with and would certainly not dissuade them from buying if they love it. I know everyone in each of my game groups is itching to see it in action. I'm also more than curious what their thoughts about the culling mechanic in digital form might actually be now that we have a clearer picture of what that may be. I'm also still somewhat confused about the box. I've gone over the threads that have mentioned it, and nothing has really become clear. And finally, I'm pretty curious about the fate of the C cards, as well. -
