  1. I'm dumbfounded why you can't ask her to sing it again. Huh? I just wrapped up the main Dalish-area quest with her in my group, and there was no singing.
  2. I haven't read any of the spoilery stuff above, but I wholeheartedly endorse this point.
  3. Nerdy celebrity sighting: Just saw Thomas Friedman in the grocery store. (He's the NY Times foreign affairs columnist, the author of several bestselling books, and a fellow Bethesda resident.)
  4. Yeah, the first thing I did when Wynne joined the group for the Tower plotline was to look at her Tactics and turn all the injury thresholds for her auto-healing down. (I think they were set at 50% or so by default.) The problem that rogues in general, and Leliana in particular, seem to suffer (besides the documented Dexterity bug) is that they need too many stat points. She needs Dex (and sometimes Str) to use the best equipment. But she also needs Cunning to be any good at her thiefy skills, and Willpower so that she can use some of her combat abilities while also running a bardsong in the background. She always seems to need a few more levels to be effective, relative to other characters. Any votes on what I should go do once I've finished with the Elfies? (The Mage tower and Honnleath are the only other areas I've visited so far.)
  5. You can't get Spirit Healer from Wynne. If you get to know her, and take her with you on occation, you'll figure out why it's not something she could teach. I haven't done a whole lot of chatting with the NPCs yet (I was guessing based on Morry & Al's ability to teach their specializations), but she's definitely one of the more likeable ones. And the nightmare that the Sloth demon trapped her in was interesting (and creepy) enough for me to want to learn more-- apparently, grieving someone's death and contemplating suicide are her greatest temptations. I spoke to Wynne a few times-- gaining positive rep each time for picking the only response that wasn't a crack about her age-- but I moved on to other things before digging further. I am considering swapping Leliana out of the party, though, with Wynne as a leading candidate. The locked stuff I've found has been inconsequential, and she's not very useful in combat at all. The XP benefit is actually more useful-- that room full of fire traps in the elven ruins probably netted me 500+ XP from disarming.
  6. If I made one, every response be that the user is an Eldar alt.
  7. Yeah, I unlocked Arcane Warrior, and I have looted the spot with the Juggernaut Armor. That's when I left off last night. I haven't looked at the other lootable spots in that room yet. (The big one in the center was obviously the most important, so I went there first.) I don't think I'm going to use AW-- the word seems to be that it's overpowered, and I'm OK with keeping my wizards in the back row. I haven't unlocked any other Mage specializations yet (altough I suspect I could get Shapeshifter off Morry and the Healing specialty off Wynne if I tried), but I'm in no particular hurry to make a decision there.
  8. Plowing through the elven ruins looking for the Werewolves, with a level 11 Mage, Al, Shale, and Lel. Beat the gimmicky As I left my save, I was just about to check all the sarcophagi in room behind the ritual door, and was badly in need of inventory space. I haven't bought any backpacks (was saving cash for the spell/skill books that the camp merchant has), and am still carrying around too many "gifts." Earlier in this dungeon, I did give away two of the "WTF?" gift items-- surprisingly I got decent rep boosts from giving . I've now tried 3 Revenant fights. If it's 4-on-1, I can handle them by spamming Cone of Cold (it's immune to the damage, but the freeze effect works nicely). It feels exploitative, but it works. But when I tried to mess with one of the gravestones in the Brazilian forest, and got a Rev plus a mob of undead, that was too much to handle.
  9. Heh. There's a Mage's Collective quest that involves doing a task for "Krebulash the Epithet." I'm guessing that "Epithet" was a placeholder that never got updated.
  10. Hmm... That's a puzzling design decision, to say the least. And there's even the spot on the character sheet that displays "Arcane Bolt" as the staff's effect-- 'type of damage' feedback would be appropriate to display there.
  11. So, between Friday and yesterday, I finished the Mage's Circle and Honnleath. Currently a level 9 mage, generally adventuring with Alistair, Leliana, and one rotating spot. (I'll probably put Shale here now that I have him. He alone seems to understand that Fantasee Dialogue is best when played as camp.) The Elves are up next. It has been fun so far. Playing on Normal, my first full-party wipe was Some of the fights in the Fade gave me trouble, too, but that was mostly a matter of guessing the wrong form to use. Also very difficult: The random encounter with Dog and I were the only ones to come out of that one standing. Oddity/possible bug: My mage is still using a standard Steel "Mage's Staff," which has 5% (I think) boosts to a few different damage types. (It's the one Wynne came with.) But the attack now seems to be doing only Cold-based damage, with the numbers showing up in blue and with cold-resistant enemies taking only 3-4 points per shot. Can anyone think of a legitimate reason why this should be happening?
  12. I'm just starting out, so plans may change. But my current thinking is to do the Magi, then Elves/Dwarves in one order or another, followed by the Redcliff and wherever that leads. The theory being that: 1) PC is a mage and has connections in the Circle; and 2) the bounty set by Loghain is likely to be less of a threat among the non-humans, so it makes sense to put off dealing with the humans until I have support from the others. I'll probably meta-game in a detour to pick up Shale at some point in there, though.
  13. Yeah, it wouldn't be so much of an issue to me if it weren't for the fact that you have to pick your characters abilities in advance and are then stuck with them for the remainder of the game. So it's nice to talk about "adaptability," but when the design doesn't support adaptation, the players should really be given better information from the beginning.
  14. In my browser, some of it is black and some of it is white.
  15. Woah. Black text on dark grey background = web design fail.
  16. Quick question about the Sleep spell: Is it like D&D in that certain types of enemies (e.g., zombies, demons, constructs, etc.) cannot be put to sleep? I've been working my Mage along both the Sleep and Paralyze lines (thinking to use one against enemies with weak mental resistance, and the other against enemies with weak physical resistance), and knowledge of any exceptions would be helpful in deciding what to prioritize.
  17. Egad. Well that pretty much drives home my decision to tell all of the NPCs who express an interest to go take a cold shower. I don't want to risk losing the smug sense of superiority I get when mocking the primetime network dramas my wife enjoys so much. crpg romances leaves Grominir with feelings ranging from mild to extreme revulsion. is an inherent creepy quality in romancing a digital character, but the manner in which such romances is implemented in crpgs thus far is making us believe that developers/gamers is all Big Fans o' Dawson's Creek and 90210 given the implementation and approval o' similarly juvenile and bizarre romance situations. HA! Good Fun! Indeed. So the companions now become a mini-game of "get their approval high enough to unlock quests and get character/gameworld background info, but not so high that they start writing my name in little hearts in the margins of their trigonometry notes." All told, I'd rather spend my time in Camp talking to the Dog. Anyhow, my group did decide to do the Circle of Mages first, mostly for the role-playing reasons I mentioned earlier. (My mage PC thinks that the First Enchanter is generally a good guy to ask for help.) I took Alistair, Leliana, and Thelonious with me, but when I met Wynne I decided that it would be best to bring her along, guessing that she probably has a good amount of special dialogue in the Tower. So I reluctantly subbed her in for the Dog. We were going through the rooms on the 2nd floor when bedtime rolled around last night. (I did decide to spare It'll be interesting to see if there are consequences of that down the road.)

  20. I think that's your PC. Did you, by chance, select the "Violent" PC voice option? I agree that it's jarring-- that tone of voice sounds so different from (and louder than) the other acknowledgment replies (and, yes, it does kind of sound like Alistair).
  21. A thought just occurred. I'm probably far from the first person to mention this, but based on the animation when using them and on the fact that they require a flask to create, I don't think that Bioware knows what a "poultice" is.
  22. HotU was only cheaper if you had already purchased the base NWN1 game.
  23. Actually, I'm changing my mind on this one. Upon reflection, I don't trust Chicago's OL or Secondary at all. The Niners are the pick.
  24. Ah, yes, I forgot that the Thursday games start this week. I'll take the Bears.
