Looks like this is fixed? had a 560MB update when I returned home this evening and had no problem unlocking with an older created hireling. She did have a mans voice while doing it but that matters little to me...lol...

I tested this and it works..... You can remove one person from your party first... Then buy a new hireling. As long as you never dismiss the hirling/move them to the stronghold they will be able to open locks without issue.

I am also having this issue. Hirelings with not interact with locked objects. Any non custom character interacts without issue. When you click on a locked item with a hireling nothing happens period. Nothing pops in the locks saying they are making an attempt to interact and they won't move to the location of the object when you click it either.

Seems since patch when i click on a locked item nothing happens. None of my party members respond to them. It's almost as if they don't register that I am clicking anything at all.

Not that this counts as a fix but if you want the paladin...Just respond that your going to protect him and then let him die in the ensuing battle. The quest will move along as far as I can tell exactly the same as if you did save him.
