  1. There is no way a female Revan could be convincing to me. There are too many female Jedi and Sith in these games. Male characters are getting short-changed because there is too much focus on romantic possibiilites. Its actually kind of silly when you think about it. These delicate, dainty, beautiful women out on the battlefield fighitng against those bulky, built Mandalorian warriors. Make no doubt about it, these games are definitely *fantasy*.
  2. Yeah, I just finished taking out the other Jedi & spared Atris. Now I am defending Telos against the Sith so I feel "good" again, despite my brieif "dark" turn. Guess its not such a big deal now, but wish I didn't have to that Jedi blood...
  3. Wow. You know the *exact* same thing has happened in my game? I decided to side with Vaklu because I thought he had a stronger vision for moving the planet forward. Also, even though there are hints that Vaklu is not totally "light", the game leads you to belleive that choosing a new leader for Onderon is a choice that will not affect Light Side/Dark Side paths. If this were not true, they should have given you DS points as soon as you started siding with Vaklu or expressed support for his followers. But instead the game did nothing, so I figured it was "okay". So imagine my surprise when I get into the throne room and I am expected to fight Master <forgot name>. What??? I thought the goal was just *getting into the palace*. How you did it and which leader you chose were *up to you*. I did not want to fight him and later have no choice about killing the other Jedi. I understand that I will still get the light side ending, but now my choices are not exactly what I wanted. Don't really feel like going back so I guess I am stuck.
  4. Ahem.... ummm.. Gothic ? Gothic 2?
  5. You clearly do not have the intellectual skills required to appreciate a game ps Planescape Torments caliber. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> See, this proves my point. Its perfectly possible to understand everything about Torment, and still not care for the setting, characters, or tone of the game. OK, so for some its the greatest. But I dont't think it should keep getting held up as this "Gold Standard" for CRPG games when other games did SO MUCH MORE RIGHT THAN JUST THE STORY.
  6. Sheez. The effusive praise this overrated game gets baffles me. Let it be known -- plenty of "intelligent" gamers do not think Planescape is the best thing since sliced bread. I can think of 15 other games I'd rather play instead.
  7. The posters who steered you towards Jagged Alliance 2 was on the right path. That game is an excellent blend of CRPG and turn based combat -- with a dash of strategic planning blended in. Other recommendations: Gothic & Gothic 2 -- Probably the best CRPGs in recent years Baldur's Gate 2 -- Closer ito KOTOR than you may realize with its game rules. Arx Fatalis Wizardry 8 Fallout & Fallout 2 Deus Ex -- Kind of a First-person shooter and RPG hybrid. Its Sci-Fi as well so that may go over well with you.
  8. Gothic! Of course, you have a pre-made character in that game too, but since noone knows his history or his name it's not quite the same thing. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Damn straight. I've been saying this from day one. Pirhanna Bytes is carrying the old banner that used to be held by Origin. They are creating new and exciting worlds where you can play out great adventures. Expand your horizons beyond Bioware, Black Isle, and Troika.
  9. To each their own. Just out of curiosity... what do you consider to be a "good game"? Please don't say Grand Theft Auto <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In my opinion the best CRPG games released between Torment and now are: Deus Ex System Shock 2 (RPGish) Gothic 1 & 2 Wizardry 8 Jagged Alliance 2 (a mix of RPG and turn-based strategy - heavy on the RPG side) Baldur's Gate 2 The common thread in all these games is that they are extremely fun to play & replay due to the many elements they get right - *of which, having a decent story is just ONE aspect*. Maybe some of these games didn't have a story as wordy or complicated as Torments. But you know what? They didn't need to because they SHOWED us what was great about them through what we could do in the game OTHER than reading long-winded and often pretentious dialogues. Look, I'm not saying story & background are not important in CRPG games. Just that you should never get hit over the head with them. Imply things, leave optional books to read, place clues for us to interpret on our own. Do not decide to you want to TELL US a long winded story in leiu of putting interesting challenges in the game like exploring, combat, item variety, etc.
  10. You play the game and make up your own mind. But in my opinion, Torment is one the most overrated computer games ever. Sure, its not horrible and maybe even above average. But for god sakes it is not *that* good, nor is it a piece of "art" or "literature".

  12. Actually I'm of the rare opinion (apparently) that these games have too many female characters. Maybe I grew up in a different era (born in '72), but I think too many games these days try too hard to push these fighting/tough female types that simply aren't convincing to me. In the end, they just end up feeling like they are forced in to provide titilation. This makes the stories somewhat cheap and melodramatic. I'm also not a big fan of romances in games. I just feel the focus should be on moving the plot forward, exploration, combat, etc. All that "mushy" stuff really makes the game too soft in my opinion. Just my 2 cents.
