  1. After dealing with GTA4, Bioshock and Oblivion, just to name a few, i have no faith in any major gaming publication. Except for Edge magazine, who actually have some negative comments on the games that they are previewing/reviewing. You both miss the point. Every article has facts and opinions. You can ignore the opinions and still get a solid picture of what a game is like. You just need to read for the facts.
  2. Shut your dirty mouth! Seriously, where did you hear that? Everything I checked still says 9/9
  3. I don't buy the whole "need a demo" argument either. There are dozens of reviews and previews for games nowadays. The internet means there really doesn't need to be any uninformed purchases. And I know folks get all cranky about media bias and a lousy scoring system, but if you have an ounce of reading comprehension it's not difficult to pull the facts about a game out of an article.
  4. Bush isn't really a conservative Christian, he just plays one on TV. Seriously, these are politicians. They pander to their majority support base.
  5. So who exactly loses his install discs every time a pirate downloads a game? After all, you're comparing it to someone taking someone else's possessions and destroying them. Please tell. Actually robbing a bank doesn't actually take money from the bank customers. The bank has insurance, and it's the insurance that covers the theft. If we are talking $50, then that would barely register with these big insurance companies. So figuring out who loses their money when you rob a bank isn't all that easy. The insurance company is paid by the banks, and the banks make the payments based on fees and interest payments. On the other hand, a group of programmers and artists spent years of work creating the IP. Does Killian think that they will accept his argument that "hey, I took advantage of your hard work, but I plan on paying for it if it is good."
  6. I ran into our new coach, Todd McLellan today. He came out of the Sharks practice office and accidently knocked over a few of our sticks that were stacked near the door. We failed to say anything witty.
  7. No, it is not for "free." If I do not like the game I uninstall and delete it. If I do like the game I buy it. The bolded part is where you stealing, just to clarify. Just because you destroy something after you steal it does not make it right. It's like robbing a bank, burning the money, and then going in and telling them "It's cool, I'm totally going to repay you."
  8. That sounds about right. The director had little idea what was happening as well. Ba-da-bump *tsk*
  9. It crossed my mind, but I decided to set a realistic goal.
  10. But if I buy a pair of pants only to find they are really uncomfortable when sitting down, I can always just return them. Give me a 100% no questions asked return policy on games and your analogy will hold up. Edit: As far as creating a demo. Who cares if you give away too much? I want to know if the game is fun, so let me play the first 30 minutes or so of it. That should be enough to let a player know if the game is worth spending money on. Believe it or not, that policy did exist for many years. The problem with your argument is that you can't take the pants home and put them in a fancy pants burning machine that will creating exact copies. You can do that with software.
  11. No, that's you wanting something for free. It's a lame justification for pirating. A bunch of people spent years of their lives creating the game and you are going to steal it because you are "frugal".
  12. Death Sentence - A revenge flick with Kevin Bacon. Turned out pretty good, I think it's the director who does the Saw movies. I'm always a fan of revenge flicks.
  13. Hey, I appreciate the sentiment. In fact I'm going to remind my wife that it's father's day in part of the world and hope she'll give some free time to play video games.
  14. You scared me to death for a sec. The US celebrates it in June.
  15. What's the point of this? People who don't feel at ease in either atheism or their family's faith tends to find the faith that fits them easily enough without touching upon them in the early years. I would personally rather keep a religiously well educated household that is completely neutral in regards to religions thereby keeping religion at an individual level. I do think it's admirable of you to try and do what's best (supposedly) for your child rather than what is easiest for you. Edit: Wouldn't your aproach give problems with the amount fo gift-giving holidays in religions? The point isn't necessarily to give her a lot of choices, but rather to help her have an open mind about the many different concepts of faith and spirituality. In my line of work, I see a lot of children who simply mimic their parents belief structure. My daughter is only 17 months old, so I'm still developing the strategy here, but my overall goal is really just teaching tolerance and open mindedness. I forgot to add Buddhism and Hinduism to my major faith list in the last post. As for gift giving, from what I have researched, not too many major holidays are like Christmas. Ramadan, for example, is a huge part of Islam and is more about coming together as a community and sharing meals after sundown.
  16. I plan on teaching my daughter about every major faith, and creating a crazy calendar for us to follow that will give us exposure to major holy days across the spectrum. I'll expose her to athiesm and non-mainstream religions as well, but the focus will be on Judaism, branches of Christianity, and Islam. It sounds hippy-dippy, I know, but I'm dead serious.
  17. taks does seem pretty extreme in his anti-socialism stance. Personally I think it's a balancing act.
  18. Yeah, I watched the Dungeon Keeper intro a lot. Privateer had a good one. "Who are you that flies so well?!?"
  19. Why does everyone have spore already? I thought it comes out Tuesday.
  20. So the argument here is that there is too much scoring in futbol? Funny
  21. Hey guys, turns out this was a marketing hoax. Neat-o.
  22. The UN was formed after WW2. The League of Nations was similiar and was formed after WW1, but it collapsed early on and the US wasn't even a member (congress didn't want to involve itself in world affairs.)
  23. Yep, tomorrow open beta starts. Gotta figure out what I want to play when it comes out for real.
  24. NHL09 demo rocks. First game I played as Zetterberg and got an A in stats for an assist and a few shots, a B for positioning, and a C for teamwork (guess I didn't pass enough). Second game I got three assists as Crosby and got straight A's for performance. I haven't tried to raise the difficulty though. I think the Be a Pro mode will be my main gameplay focus.
  25. Gotta second Monkey Island, that was a great one. "My name is Guybrush Threepwood, and I want to be a pirate." I like the original Baldur's Gate as well.
