Favourite NWN2 character builds (excluding SoZ and MotB for now)
Humodour replied to Humodour's topic in Computer and Console
I think strength-based would be boring since you couldn't dual-wield to save your life. You'd get Improved Power Attack which is a nice +12 damage if you don't use a shield. And if you're going two-handed like that your strength bonus would increase by 50%. So you could rack up some hefty damage, but... With perfect dual wielding you get as many main hand attacks as off-hand attacks. So you're going to have at least 8 (or is it 10?) by the time you reach epic levels. Throw in some haste spells, etc... 20 attacks per round seems easy. -
Surprised to hear you say that. Cops should be treated as humans. it makes them easier to get along with, and that includes occasionally taking the p***. I do worry that cops in the States are trained to behave like urban commandos, not public defenders. I meant in the context of throwing a sarcastic slur in order to make yourself feel smart and them feeling like dumb oafs. Or use using some annoying, ironic anecdote like certain characters from a certain movie Juno. A happy and gentle face is always welcomed. Screw you. Juno was awesome.

I guess my unbridled love of capitalism is why I'm such a fan of the unfettered free market fundamentalism of Libertarians huh?

OK, I'm playing NWN2 OC from scratch again now that I have MotB installed. I must say I'm a lot happier with it this time around. The interface is better in many subtle ways, the game no longer crashes at all, and I'm starting to have more fun in the areas past Fort Locke. I ended up taking straight Bard since with Drow ECL I'm already 2 levels behind. It's fun. Bard's are cool in NWN2 - inspirations are a real boon. I just got Weapon finesse so I can hit things often now, too, though not for much damage yet. Just figured I'd update everyone to let them know there's a happy ending. -
Is Nathaniel Chapman a programmer? If so, his decade starts at 2000.

Um, why would you insult Pop, a rational, sane and fairly moderate poster, by equating him with this self-confessed socialist clown? Oh, I know, it's because Pop writes posts outlining the absurdity of dogmatic Libertarianism and Objectivism.

Don't worry, you'd be ridiculed about this just as much in real life. You're not convincing because your posts read like the inconsiderate jokes they are.

I just want to be left alone to turn to dust when I die. None of this silly 'soul' business. It is thus perhaps unsurprising that nostalgia is generally the strongest emotion I experience from day to day.

Look at KOTOR2 and NWN2. No, I hope they continue to delay it until they decide they are well and truly ready and hopefully relatively bug free.

Just keep an eye on your "reputable" WP.. WJ. I don't read the Washington Post you silly billy.

Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 Will Not Have LAN Support

So will Josh Sawyer's signature be removed next because he links to profanity also? Edit: He's changed it to his twitter page, but nevertheless, the concept of filtering a link because the page contains profanity inside the content seems ridiculous. -
Another thumbs up for OpenOffice. PDf is good for files which you don't want the formatting of to change (and can be guaranteed not to).

I don't know how to get through to you Wals. First of all, the American Society of Sivil Engineers, FEMA, the Silverstein/Weidlinger group and NIST spent 8 years and close to $30M twisting their brains trying to figure out how in the nine hells it all happened, and you refer to it as simple engineering. I don't know what college you graduated from, but if I was your student-counselor I'd be worried. As I've said before, I have no idea. I just know a lie when I see one.. (or should I say 50). There is too much bs here to just look the other way. Also, Norway has taken casualties in Afghanistan, so it matters to me. I guess it's just my nature. I'm never satisfied, and I don't trust people blindly. It has its advantages and disadvantages. J. Comedy goldmine.

I actually disagree with this on two counts (though only really in the case of a few levels of rogue, not equal levels bard and rogue). Firstly, a Bard and a Rogue's skills don't overlap that much - specifically a Bard does not get Search, Disable Device, Pick Locks, or Intimidate (the last one I'm admittedly not using). Secondly, Bard's are actually not primarily about spellcasting, but about being a jack of all trades. The spells are certainly nice, but for a start, you'll never really need over 16 Charisma, and you simply do not get higher than 6 level spells (though admittedly they're often quite powerful 6th level spells). The Bard Songs and Inspirations are nothing to be shunned. Inspirations are constant and one of them is something like +4 to hit and damage for the entire party (higher/lower depending on level), while the Bard Songs all vary but the best ones are Heroism, Requiem, and Curse Song, and they aren't just fun, they're good. Finally, evasion is perfect for a Bard, who should end up with high saves in pretty much everything. More backstab damage would be nice, but it's not worth sacrificing more Bard levels. We're talking Rogue 2/Bard X here. Disclaimer: I'm yet to actually play this char. I've taken a Drow for it. It puts my Bard essentially 4 levels behind but Search mode is always active (traps, invisible creeps), and makes getting Perfect Two Weapon Fighting relatively easy with the following starting stats: STR 10 DEX 18 CON 12 INT 16 WIS 10 CHA 16 Weapon Finesse of course. We'll see how I go. -
Things you feel needs to be done. Either out of moral obligation or whimsical indulgence Edit: That is the short version. Being at work at the moment, I am a bit pressed for time for a longer explanation. Time allowing, I'll add a more indepth answer. A slightly longer answer... Introduction: For reasons I really don't get, I see humanity as so limited that it scary. What is worse is, it is self imposed limitations. We always try to "fit" in ideals created by a few individuals. We are slaves to ideologies, fashion, cultural fads, belief systems, all kinds of human made value systems. A few "visionaries" sometimes manage to move a tent pole here or budge the general opinion a bit here, but overall, we tend to group think. Group think in Gorths world means that the IQ of the group is the reciprocal of the number of members of the group. Middle part: Narrowmindedness is the greatest enemy of humanity. That is why I take great pleasure in poking fun at dogma and doctrine alike (I do try to be inoffensive about it), just as I in life outside the internet try to kick some sense into people and encourage independant rather than conditioned thinking. We we really should be better than Ivan Pavlovs dogs. Limited thinking is one of the few things that gets me really agitated (and I normally control my emotions better than Mr. Spock). Humanity could be so great if we tore down the walls in our minds and worked on a betterment of us all as a whole. Yeah, that would be "Gorthopia" Conclusion part: And what has that to do with doing "things" I hear you say? I believe that to be a more complete person and better expand your thinking, you need to experience life in all its facets. In order to see beyong your current visual range, you need to move to the next hill to get a better view. People need to experience sorrows and joys, failures and successe, gains and losses to expand their horizons. Scholarly studies only gives you enough to pass the theoretical test of life, to pass the practical test, you need to go out their get a bloody nose. Sometimes the experiences are pleasant, sometimes hurtful, all them adds to a greater understanding of what it means to be human. I am not really sure that I need to tell you in particular that, since I suspect you have a pretty good idea already. Next up on Gorths to-do list is to buy a motor cycle (already started looking around for one) and come spring, I shall ride towards the sunset, being the lone horseman of the apocalypse My dad could beat up your dad.

Pretty much every funny Internet meme came from 4chan. Also every unfunny one.

When I had the phrase "Scientology is a cult" in my signature, it was removed by the Obsidian moderators. I wasn't even insulting them with that phrase, just stating a fact which I challenge any of the mods to argue against. Yes, I know this happened like a year ago, but I'm still bitter about it.

Or maybe it's just as you say and the devs opted for like 20 shallow characters instead of the, what, 6 or so brilliant ones Torment had? Anyway I'm going to sleep on it. To late to start a game tonight. Everything in MotB seems to function adequately (with some nice improvements like camera modes and an AI on/off button). -

Cheers guys. All patched. In game making a character. Only patched to 1.22 since I've heard multiple people complain about 1.23. Anything I'm missing from 1.23? Neeshka is the only rogue in the game? Seriously? OK, definitely taking 2 rogue levels, able learner + disable device, search, and open locks for my PC. Update: MotB is a lot smoother in terms of performance and interface. -
The other channels get way more activity than /b/ does, so I think you just dislike them and are fudging the facts to fit. Not that I really care I guess. I browse it like once a month when I'm bored in class. But it's like somebody saying the Obsidian boards are vile because they don't like the topics in WWOT - most people aren't here for WWOT.

I've wondered the same thing. I don't think they organise anything usually (except Scientology raids, which are done via dedicated web sites for it) but a lot of 4chan viewers are enterprising hackers or thugs go around stealing the data of a CEO or cutting AT&T cables with dull implements (implying animal damage). At the same time a lot aren't - a lot more are normal people. It gets a bit of a bad name.

MotB arrived. I haven't tried it yet because the patching system is retarded and taking 400mb to download minipatches for what amounts to a 50mb patch. I hope Alpha Protocol is more polished out of the box than KOTOR2 and NWN2. Edit: Yeah this is ****ing retarded. I've burnt about 500mb in bandwidth now downloading these useless minipatches for MotB (and I'm only up to 1.13!) in the autopatcher and now I'm reading a post by Rob McGinnis from a year or two ago claiming that I need to patch NWN2 before installing and patching MotB or the game won't work? I've read people claiming the exact opposite! So I'll probably have to do this patch process all over again?! And to top it off the autopatcher seems to think I've got Storm of Zehir (I don't yet). Get your **** together Obsidian - nobody should need to go through all this drama to patch your damn game, especially not when your patches are pretty important since your games are so buggy. Arg! Frustrated. -
Keep your tangential socialist rants to Way Way Off Topic, please. At least then then the rest of us can ignore you easily.
