    Missed that somehow, sorry.

Theres probably an updated one running around somewhere given that theres a whole bunch of renewed interest after 2016.

I also think it's interesting that even before the fake news era conservatives already distrusted the majority of news sources

In the 90's CNN was oft referred to as the Clinton News Network, largely because Wolf and co. would often spend time figuratively doing on the air what Monica did in the office.

    Never heard of that.

Conservatives and Trump supporters did use that during the campaign as an opportunistic way to mock Clinton or CNN.

Aye. A resurrection of an old trope.

CNN was considered bias by many back then. One wouldn't know this of course if one only ever watched CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, etc, but if one had conversations with actual people with working brains....

That said, the bias wasn't near as blatant as it is now. Back in the day CNN et al were much better at pretending to report news objectively. The emperor's clothes came completely off during this last election. For anyone with eyes and a functional brain to compute what they saw (if they were looking), they will not forget.

  3. Does anybody else think this looks ethically shady? http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/368406-trump-holds-sweepstakes-to-win-dinner-at-mar-a-lago Trump is holding a sweepstakes to win a private dinner with Trump at Mar-a-Lago. This is something I'd expect a businessman or celebrity to do, not a President. Seriously, if it's not legally corruption, it should be, because it feels wrong for a President to do.

I can't imagine Merkel, Macron (well, okay, maybe Macron), or Obama, or George Bush doing that. edit: Not the first time he's done a similar thing, but still....

Presidents have been having dinner with people who donate to them for ages. Some Presidents have been accused, with good cause, of far worse. e.g. Clinton was reputed to essentially rent out rooms in the White House for donations.

Ethically shady? Arguably yes, but it ranks low on the list of ethically shady things Presidents have been doing since well before your parents were born.

Given the climate I think it's actually arguably a good thing. It possibly allows the President to deflect some who would expect a dinner ("nope: you're entering the same contest as everyone else"), and (if he's genuinely interested) allows him to spend quality time with a random supporter. If I was President I would actually want to do the latter from time to time.

This is muchado about not much. Up there with the complaints that Obama golfed too much.

I do think you're right on one point: Neither Merkel, Macron, Obama, nor George would deign to have dinner with any of the 'little people'. They're too busy keeping up with the elite Joneses; suckling at the crotches of those who they perceive as 'elite' who bought and paid for their power.

Quite literally sold their souls they all did.

I weep for my home state

I thought you were in Colorado?

Arpaio is 85, it's pretty obvious he wants to stay in power one way or another. If he somehow gets the nomination, I'd see that seat as being pretty easy to get for the Democrats.

Arizona, like many other western states has been importing a disproportionate number of blue voters. It has almost become a blue state, so a democrat very well may win the Senate seat regardless of who runs on the red team this year.

  5. There was no draft when Johnson was of an age to be drafted. He was in his 30's when WWII started.

    You are mistaken.

... and some will still say that the U.S. was a peace loving nation who only got into WW2 because it was attacked unprovoked by the Japanese Empire, and that the attack was even a surprise.

"Oh the stuff they teach people in schools! Or is it the stuff they don't teach people in schools? Either way... Ha! Ha! Ha!!! Ha!!!!" - :fdevil:

Also, Johnson was in the military.

  6. Donald Trump is going to be a one term President, at most.

I hope you're ready for President Oprah Winfrey!

    Cheers,

    And the campaign begins....

This **** is really getting too easy to predict.... scarily so....

If I was the devil: laughably so.... :fdevil:

  7.

Some are going to get the following, some are going to huh?

Here's my quick take on the Grateful Dead vs Phish:

It's a crazy thing, those who are divided on this. As a huge fan of both, I love them both. They ARE different. Trey isn't Jerry, Phish isn't the Dead, and vice versa, not by a long shot even. My god there are similarities, and in the absolute best of ways. There are differences galore, in the absolute best of ways. Two different bands, but both populated through and through by phenomenally talented individuals.

If there was ever a guitarist to fill Jerry's spot at Wrigley Field, Trey was it, hands down. And holy smokes did he own it.

That said, massive hats off to John Mayer for the now and future.

  8. This is a much better Christmas video.

So you don't find any humor in Diversity Walls or Trucks of Peace, I get it. What I don't get is how you find any humor at all in the video you linked. It's entirely bland. I'm curious, please point out something in the 'Dear Satan' video that you found amusing or good in any way.

The only thing I see it having going for it is Patrick Stewart being the narrator. I suppose maybe we can find some dark amusement in the possible fact he sold his soul awhile back and Satan came to collect, forcing him to be a part of this horribad video.

  9. A thing about glasses though, if you strain your eyes slightly to get focus, even without noticing it, you need new ones. I have had tests and glasses made a bunch of times this year and I don't know why but the results seem to vary quite a bit even though my eyes haven't changed much. For whatever reason the tests doesn't conform well to real life conditions. Lighting conditions make a huge difference for me. Really I should have one set for late night and one for daytime.

I can see perfectly well in the daytime and not quite as well as i would like in the night time. The slight straining that makes your eyes tired, there is a good chance it can be corrected if your glasses are 'zeroed in' for whatever protracted task you are doing, like reading or using a computer screen.

Do you like gray blob A better than gray blob B. They look identical and yet they are absolutely not. 35 of those questions and I wager, for my part anyway, that arriving at the wrong conclusion is a real possibility.

It all sounds obvious, but the optician actually asked me if I spent a lot of time in front of a computer. So he could spend more time testing that range. We want multiple focus glasses so we don't have 8 different ones to carry around, but it's a compromise, at least until they make glasses that can change shape.

That went on a bit. Point being you can probably get glasses that are better suited for using a monitor.

Methinks you need a new optician and/or perhaps need to see an ophthalmologist.

Other things that may or may not apply depending on what you already do/have:

Springing for better quality lenses may make a difference (if you're not already getting the best).

Springing for a better quality monitor(s) may make a difference (TN really are garbage, you do get what you pay for with monitors to a degree).

Don't sit in the dark while on the computer.

Don't stare at small screens (your phone) for any length of time.

Look away to refocus your eyes from time to time.

    Eat better.

Get exercise: cardio and the kind that has you eyes change focus a lot, i.e. a sport involving a moving ball.

I'm myopic and do not have the problem that you describe. My eyes have not changed their prescription at all in over 5 years, and in the last 20 have barely changed. Sometime I've even had a slight improvement.

  10. "Nothing is immutable."

    You are correct, mostly.

That said, there things as well as scenarios where that thought isn't likely going to get you much.

e.g.You're in a car going 120mph towards a cliff that's only 100 yards away, and the car is driven a lunatic who just popped their favorite song on the stereo. After a good amount of contemplating they have become convinced they can fly, convinced the car can fly, and they smile at you gleefully as they rev the car up even more for take off. All the while you sit in the backseat with no doors or windows large enough to jump out of. Up until a few moments ago you thought your friend was only joking when he said he could fly. 'Nothing is immutable' is true, but it's about to visit you in a way you probably wish it wouldn't.
