Anyone who wants to see how force push/wave should be in KOTOR2 should check out EPXIII of Clone Wars. If you think Mace in the film was badass you aint seen nothing yet. -

NWN looks blocky .. Because .. Well ... It's made of blocks. It's always looked blocky for that reason and will always continue to do so. -

Choices like that require a very grey world. The best example of a totally open game I can think of is DXII. not only could you change employers on a whim, even working for both sides at the same time if you wanted to. You also had something like 5 different endings. But what made it really open is you never HAD to do anything because nothing was rewarded by experience points. Everything you did ,well it was really upto you. Like when you rescue the helicopter pilot go in and kill everyone in sight, or like I did sneak around and tranq them. Either way it dosnt make any difference whatsoever to how the organisation treats you. You still have to fight but you have a range of options and weapons so you can either be very upfront about it, or totally sneaky so they never even see it coming. The idea that the designer somehow owes it to the player to be able to bypass anything they feel is somewhat bothersome, well that just makes me laugh. -

I'm still waiting for that appology or are you going to prove your the low class punk you accused me of being ? You expressed your opinion I expressed mine. Mine just happens to be more well thought out and have basis beyond my own personal preferences. -

The equivelent of ATB would be Biowares pause and play. So it really dosnt matter what rules they use as long as they keep the same pause and play system. -

I am sorry, I have to call you a little doggie again. Because your chasing your tail again doggie. Listen doggie, I never said you should be able to talk your way through KotOR 2 Will the little doggie finally understand in bold? This is what happens when the english make the dummies stop going to school when they can't pass their test. They forget to learn how to read. How many friggin times am I going to have to tell the doggie, that I do not think there should be a pacifistic path through KotOR2. When will the little doggie learn that I said, an option to remove the mandatory dull combat, for non combat oriented character would be a good idea. Does the little doggie understand that? Now go chase your tail some more, you moron. So ? Still dosnt disprove my statement in any way. irrelevent . Its still one of KOTORs most lauded features. If you say so though given your level of confusion and not even being able to remember what you have typed they may well be imaginary people. Korriban has plenty of opportunities for talking as does Dantooine, Malon and Tatooine. Your whinging because you cant talk the fanatical Sith who pop up to not kill you ? And when will you get a clue ? Hard combat, no problem just talk your way through it. Congrats on removing any challenge from the game. Because talking/sneaking are all one roll resolutions. Your not thinking through the consequences of allowing people to chat or sneak their way through every encounter. Which is what you have said on repeated occasions although you cant seem to make up your mind. As long as the integrity of the world is maintained its your job as a roleplayer to work within it. If combat is heavy going, what sort of effect does that have on your character. Your character would have to be pretty sick and twisted to take pleasure in killing other sentient being even if they have no choice but to do so. In fact to do so would be to send the character on an express trip to the dark side. But you would rather look for the easy way out it seems and avoid anything at all arduous for your poor little grouping of statistics. -

Thoughts on Mandatory Combat
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to triCritical's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Do I really have to go back and dig out the quote from your post ? Silent Storm isnt an RPG which is not suprising as you really dont seem to know what roleplaying is outside of statistics. 1. Really the cinematic combat is one of the most lauded features of KOTOR. Just not by "hardcore" gamers. 2. If you say so though what you think hardly seems worth anything except to you. 3. The StarForge isnt a place for tea and biscuits. What you have repeatedly failed to do is show how you could realistically talk your way through the StarForge. Or any other situation that has a party who dosnt give a monkeys what you have to say. The StarForge is interesting because you really get to flex your Jedi muscles. Especially if you take the other two along and toss Sith around like rag dolls. You wrote It I pulled it from your post and put the "" round it. -

Well he was the one who typed it. Not the smartest move to type something you dont stand behind. I dont care as long as. 1. The NPCs motivations are taken into account. 2. Not every room has a ventilation shaft just large enough to crawl through or something equally ridiculous. 3. It dosnt become a case of oops missed my stealth/speech roll better reload. The integrity of the gameworld is far more important than Tri C's ideas for avoiding things he dosnt like and will always be so. Unless of course your a power gamer like he is. Which would be kinda ironic considering your name. -

I didnt even know I was going to end up a Jedi Rented the game and it didnt come with any instructions so I knew very little about it which you can usually tell from reading the manual. -
Thoughts on Mandatory Combat
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to triCritical's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Your point was this right. I (tri critical) dont like to fight therefore the game should be tailored to my needs. I want some way to avoid everything I find unpleasent in a game and I dont care if its in the slightest bit appropriate to the NPCs either because their only purpose is to power my ego trip. Was I close ? Well guess what grow up and deal with it. If you dont want the game dont buy it , your perogative. Those are the situations your character is faced with. He can always curl up into a ball or become an alcoholic. But its a real world out there and its your characters job to deal with that just like you presumabley deal with the real world. -

Koriban was amzing. Taris was very vanila though it was the only place that let you play the character class you chose at the start , so it has that in its favour. Koriban as a Jedi(as opposed to a Sith) though It was just special. -

If you take into account the falloff in the PC market its pretty close as to which is the most succesful. Options can go too far. like this little gem "I just want an option to avoid the mandatory combat for characters who don't want to do it." Perhaps a button on the startup screen that says view end movie? :D -
Thoughts on Mandatory Combat
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to triCritical's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Well you asked the question. If you dont want answers dont ask the questions. Really not that hard you know. See above Well as long as they dont break the reality of the setting then its my character dealing with it not me. If the character feels brought down by having to hack his way through a bunch of Sith , well than thats the way the world works. Guess what when I was in school I wanted to avoid my homework too. That didnt make my homework go away. Umm no your the stupid one that had nothing to do with combat and everything to do with why you should be able to play the game the way you want to play it rather than in a way which fits in with the rest of the world. This is of course spefically relating to SW games as you seem unable to grasp even the most obvious things unless they are rammed in your face. I never said talkiness should be removed. You really should get your facts straight. -

Quite so. Off topic but perhaps interesting. They have altered the combat in Jade Empire so it plays kind of like a beatumup or for the closest comparative Shenmue.Jade is going to be interesting because it will be the acid test of whether or not Bioware owes its success to just getting lucky with licenses, or if they can stand on their own property. -

ARE YOU DAFT???? CAN YOU READ????? I am asking for the mandatory to be removed you putz!!!!! That means it can still be an options, DUH!!! Your stupidity frustrates me. I always forget that you keep on responding with more and more gibberish. Then why answer "IMO it has a lot" Your working for the Jedi your previous identity isnt important at the time. I think you need you need to re evalute who you call dense. In the context of the game everything is real. Malak is real and he has real goals and aspirations. He also has a large number of fanatical followers which he dispatches to stop your incursions into his "territory". His followers have one goal, to kill you they dont want to have tea and biscuits or go down the pub for a pint. If you cant understand that then why play roleplaying games? Yes and I'm telling you that unless you can find a reason why it should be removed in the reality context of the world then your talking crap. Well you brought up your problems with Dave. I was just pointing out that Dave has both more experience and more credibility than you. You wish -

ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to triCritical's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Well your opinion would be wrong then wouldnt it. A pure anything path is stupid just like real people characters should have to confront a variety of situations. Some they may be better equipped for than others. What do you mean no bearing on the game. It shows there are a lot of Sith and they really dont like you or the Jedi order very much.In the case of creature encounters, dont go into their territory would be the message there. Of course if you have no choice then they have no choice to but to defend said territory. To do otherwise would be like sending a few 100 people to defend your country when you have a couple of million. It gives a sense of scale. Some people like the high encounter level your no more important than they are. If you have issues with Dave then why not take them up with Dave? Dave has designed a bunch of million+ selling games so I tend to think Dave may well know what he is doing even if it dosnt meet your personal approval. Whats that got to do with anything? There should be no such thing as a non combat character. Such a thing is an abheration that has nothing to do with roleplaying. Poor thing do I frustrate your debating skills that much -

ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to triCritical's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
What has a pure stealth or a pure diplomacy game got to do with roleplaying ? Thats just another form of powergaming. With the added cheat factor of reloading rather than break your "no kill" rule. Well what you want is all fine and dandy but thats all it is. Your no more correct than someone who would want to get rid of most of the talkie bits because they find them boring. -
Thoughts on Mandatory Combat
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to triCritical's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Combat is the only thing that is 100% determined by you. If you decide to whack someone over the head. Not a lot they can do about it except fight back. Diplomacy actually relies on giving the other side something they want. And coming to a conclusion which both sides are happy with. Its not a case of sending a charismatic individual into a room and them coming out with everything they want. Or world politics would be a very different thing. Same with stealth. Stealth relies on certain enviromental conditions which may not always be present. If the boss isnt interested in your point of view and has set up his "lair" to elimiate the stealth options what else do you do ? -
What I want to see in KOTOR II
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Fearless_Jedi's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
When your that height how else do you fight man sized opponents ? Yoda's fighting style removed both Dooku's height and reach advantage so regardless of how silly you think it looked it was very effective. -

Ha ! Dogding again are we What makes that a good game ? Reducing the NPCs to servents does not make something a good game. It's just another one of your lets make the world play by my rules idiocies. You would be suprised what you can do with high enough weapon skills and power armour. Assume what you like you asked the question. For the record no it wasnt on the first play through. Even people with huge emphasis on stealth know how to fight. Take Ninja , very stealthy people. But they still spent a lot of time training to fight. Why ? Because unlike you they realise that stealth is not 100% effective and when stealth fails you need to be able to handle the situation. They didnt have a reload button which allowed them to escape both the consequences of their actions and their training. -

Stats can help you visualise the character depending on where on the scale they happen to fall. That makes them important in that respect. But the way Tri is talking about them is to deterimine the optimum path of his choice through the game. He always plays a specific type of character and he expects the world to shape itself around that character. Rather than the character being shaped by the world which is how it should work. -

If anyone can beat Fallout as a combat boy without reloading I would be very impressed. As a matter a fact I do not think it is possible to beat FO as a combat boy without reloading. Anyhow, the reason that beating FO as a diplomat is so hard, is because it would not be very fun if it was too easy. That is pretty good design... And of course has nothing to do with the fact you like to play low str characters who you feel are overly punished because they cant carry anything significant I think in that context it's pretty clear. So what is the NPCs motivation for carrying some pansy ass who cant take care of themselves? Because it would have to be a very good one especially if you consider an NPC like Canderous. Well be impressed then because I have It's not that difficult FO is pretty short. Even if you do die in a fight with a combat build chances are you have given it your best. Which is very different from reloading just because your chosen way to play the game failed. The good design is that the game allows a well rounded character to approach a given situauation in a way that most suits their outlook on the situation. That dosnt mean powergaming your character and reloading when you fail a speech check or when you come across something with a ranged weapon in a random encounter. Maybe I'm the only one who builds well rounded characters...
