Black Isle implies a volcano? So an Obsidian Ocean would be the area around the volcano? Is the Black Isle an island... or a floating volcano pirate ship? Sailors and traders all across the sea tell the tales of the terror of the floating mountain, the Black Isle. It turns water to stone, obsidian, and the air to scorching mist, and darkens the skies. That, my friend, is why they call it the Obsidian Ocean. EDIT: am in agreement. got infinite possibilities and yet most offerings sound far too similar. am actual not a fan o' any naming relying on "obsidian" and/or "order." the brotherhood of fuligin sails HA! Good Fun! Agreed, but there's Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity 2. I thought this idea of Pirate Badges/Forum was a sort of Obsidian Order 2. Unless this is its own thing.

If they could pull that off... and make it big enough to do it justice, holy crap would I salivate. They did talk about preloading to reduce indoor/outdoor transitions, and that could allow this, but it would be a tall order. I must keep my expectations in check as I don't see it as remotely feasible, but it would be glorious if they pulled it off. Sorry, don't mean to raise anyone's expectation bars! I like to go off the books and many times out of reach ideas, out of the box. I'm expecting a world map/similar system like Pillars 1, but I can't help it, sometimes I dream away.

Just a thought occurred to me. Having 5 party members allows the designers more freedom for, say, 1 unique character equivalent summoning spell. Temporary or permanent. A monster. A pack mule (old idea of mine). A demon (another old idea). Something Torchlight* (a pet mule)*, or just an expansion to Pillars 1's pet system. I haven't played it but I've read that in Anachronox, one of the recruitable companions is a planet? I think it could diversify story telling a lot, but mostly space for spell/ability/movement/combat animations and graphics. Off-topic/World Map: * I recall reading Sawyer saying something about making the world feel like a bigger place this time around, and Torchlight does inventory & selling items in a really neat way, both mechanically and narratively. I'm thinking Divine Divinity. Logistically, with Day/Night cycles, and historically** documented visions, it'd make a lot of sense. Could Deadfire be one giant isometric painting? ** "Obsidian Entertainment boss Feargus Urquhart has said the studio would love to develop a large-scale RPG such as Skyrim", doesn't necessarily mean First Person, right?

So basically, we're allowed to design something and present it, but it's a low chance that most of it has room & time for development? I.e. we get the priveledge of presenting something that Obsidian will look at guaranteed? (Unlike random suggestions/ideas on the forum) EDIT: - Basic gear for the crew, can we name a sword for, example, the Captain? (No properties, just a name, like, a standard Rapier but has the name "Beestinger"~) - Any chance we could give a hint to a treasure that the pirates are/were looking for, and find it somewhere in the game? (Valuables to sell/gems) "X marks the spot"~ e.g. we wouldn't "decide" where exactly, but only "there's treasure somewhere in the world, and these pirates were looking for it" (could maybe be combined with treasure quest that Obs already, presumably, have planned?)

Osvir replied to Relampago's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
That's... weird... I started reading the topic and then suddenly "You have mail!". Yup. -
Another question: - Does the Pirate ship have to go on water? (Naasitaq... sand ship!) Not thinking it's going that direction, but if it's not a restriction, making a "random encounter" area where the background is just "Desert tile" or "Desert background" wouldn't be too much of a hassle, or would it? (I'm thinking something like Final Fantasy VII, under the theme park, the background when you run out into the desert is just repeating over and over) More creative piling (thinking outside the box a bit) Does the ship have to be sailable? (I got an image of a ship wreck half-sunk into the sands, and entering it gets you into a mini-ship-sized-dungeon where the cursed(?) pirate crew is?). Same thing could apply to a crashed ship against a reef or something. Furthermore, it could be the same crashed ship, doing some space & time bending (Karkarov's Time Travellers), and depending on when (time of day/weather) you enter X area, the wreck would be there? E.g. entering a desert map during a sandstorm, and when it has passed (if dynamic weather is temporary, and doesn't persist/loop infinitely whilst you are in X area afflicted by Sandstorm), you can find the wreck. Or by going to the docks of some city at night, after some event, a ethereal ship stands by the docks (you wouldn't be able to enter or interact much, but perhaps get some "hints"~ a mystery).

If Obsidian goes the way Amentep mentioned (they create 6 faces, 6 ears, 6 noses, 6 mouths etc. etc.), then they could probably create a ton of portraits, and there'd be more than enough for the Player to choose from for their PC (Custom Portrait or not). Otherwise I'd suggest Obsidian creates like 10 water colored portraits that are just a "Banner", specifically made for the PC.

This sort of answers one of my questions/gives me a general idea: "- Will we get or can we ask for lore spoiler tidbits regarding piracy, economics, politics, etc. in the Deadfire game? (nothing plot spoiling though, just to get information on the current state of the world/state of Naasitaq & the Archipelago)" I cut out the relevant bits. Josh Sawyer Interview (31st of January)

Oh right! - How many crew members on the ship? (Generic NPC's essentially) I understand that it'd only be a 6 man party of Pirates (Captain, First Mate, Master Gunner, Navigator), but what about all the small time crew? Is there room for like one text line/sentance (no dialogue window) over the head of those potential crew if the Player clicks them? (Or perhaps random banter as the Player passes by?) Piling up on the creative pile If the maximum crew size is 6 individuals... that'd be a medium sized sail boat, no? Unless the crew is magical somehow and controls the ship in some other way~ or again, a Ghost Ship Crew, Soul/Spirit Crew. ... a Chanter Pirate Crew? (Skeletons) xD http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/39725256832505941/494AFE89074E5D096EBB291CACD95BF23CFEAF36/ Arrquebus wielding time-travelers?

First question might be a bit too soon to ask but I'm just curious~ - How is the pirate ship introduced to the Player? Do we get to suggest/design/conceptualize? (Random encounter? Specific encounter?) - Is there room for a short Task-line? (Bounty, Mystery, brief Quest) - Again, suggest/design/conceptualize the architecture of the ship? (What's the maximum size of the ship? Will the Player be able to enter the ship? How many rooms? Can we decide "monster type" or "ghost type" or "galley" or "long boat" etc.?). Speaking of which, what sorts of ships exist in the Deadfire Archipelago (Eora) already? - Narrative limitations? - Is there room for one or two short "Scenes"? (isometric Cutscenes, i.e. the ship lays anchor by the docks and camera following~ something simple like that) - Will we get or can we ask for lore spoiler tidbits regarding piracy, economics, politics, etc. in the Deadfire game? (nothing plot spoiling though, just to get information on the current state of the world/state of Naasitaq & the Archipelago) - Do we get to insert/design any treasure? (Not quite "Create an Item" Tier, but maybe some sort of "Valuable" that the Player can sell?)

Sounds like you're describing the appearance section of character creation Of course, the big hand drawn portraits are beautiful and all, but creating my own portrait in character creation by that same system...? I wouldn't mind it one bit. I just hope that Player portraits and VIP character portraits blend well with this style.

That's not what I'm saying Gromnir (About co-designing), but rather, me personally would rather create something extensive and grand, than something lackluster and bland. I'd rather have a full story with Captain and crew, from ship to guns, the in-politics and in-fights, be cut to pieces for the most interesting parts, rather than having something that falls short but gets in anyways (because payment was made). Obsidian would need information/data from our creation somehow, and that's all I'm going for (not co-design). "How do we organize and manage the creation/data/information of a pirate ship & crew among 200-300 people?" (I'd personally prefer around 30, because that would be so much easier to work with). I'd also be completely fine with getting up to $5000 and just give it all to Obsidian to figure out what to do with it for the Pirate Purpose (because I want consistency as well, and they'd definitely manage that better than a large group of fans, unless there's someone uber passionate and borderline ambitious to dig out a fantastic plot for us). Regardless what happens... "Parley" has to be a dialogue option when encountering any of these Pirates

Absolutely, but wouldn't it be fun to create something for others to enjoy as well? One of the reasons I suggested "design groups" tackling different aspects was for a surprise factor as well. One group designs the Captain might not know much who the First Mate is, and vice versa. Another way is to have one "manager" and create surveys and just send it forward to Obsidian to decide what to do with the data. There is only one thing to say about that: A camel is a horse designed by a commitee. Or in other words: it's a sure as hell way into an inconsistent distaster nobody will like in the end. It's certainly not good for the overall game/experience. Uh no, absolutely not. I have no intention of backing for something this expensive, that may cost 100's of dollars per person, and then just saying "do what you want obsidian!" If no one backs a pirate crew don't kid yourself, Obsidian is not going to just say "oh well best go two crews light or no random pirates at all" they will just make it up themselves. You would literally be paying them 5k for the privilege of debating what to do with the physical goods/digital keys. Maybe you should check again what crowdfunding is all about. Hint: it's not about personal rewards. If you don't like to give Obsidian something extra without getting anything for yourself in return just don't contribute. Unless we would organize. I know some big ass Minecraft projects usually has one "design lead" and a couple of underlings to help create the vision for an area, then others for other areas. If we have 10~15 "design leads" with 30-40 people under, it shouldn't be impossible. Now, having 400-500 people in a moshpit create something together.... that'd be difficult. If the same 10-15 collaborate to maintain consistency, then I see no problem.
