  1. I don't mean to sound like a heartless ****, because I do feel for the people affected by these real and very horrible issues, however: we were talking about the witch trials in Europe during the middle ages, as you well know. And really, this is a game forum, you can't get more trivial in the grand scheme of things, this isn't really the place for soap boxing.
  2. Either way, impractical armour makes me lol. I think it looks bad and makes the setting less believable. imo. I guess I should add that gun powder didn't really put an end to armour, not right away anyway, but it did revert back to iron as opposed to steel, since it was denser, dense enough to stop the ball from a fusil but since it was heavier they ended up mostly wearing breastplates and helmets, much like today's modern infantrman. But that's pedantry, added only as a point of interest, I do agree that many things impact the advancement of armour and that it's impossible to tell what direction things would do if magic was a factor, not to mention the in game cultures among other things. I suppose it's a moot point, but I do know what I likes, y'know?
  3. Well, to be fair, that's another common misconception, most witches were put to death prior to being burned, usually by strangulation or some other more humane method. I believe the burning was more symbolic in nature. But you're right of course, we can't judge history through the lense of modern morality, things have to be viewed in the context of the time. History is there to be lived and to be understood from a human perspective without all of our own cultural baggage to skew things out of the original context.
  4. I don't either, but a paperdoll still adds to the game, it certainly doesn't take anything away. To be honest 'd aways vote for a greater degree of influence over what your character's avatar looks like.
  5. I'll aways vote for low fantasy, Magic should be what it is in folklore: strange, rare, terrifying and powerful. Making magic a common, every day thing takes away from the impact of including it at all.
  6. Absolutely, folklore is one of my chief interests and as part of my last job I spent a lot of time researching the history of the various local witch trials here on the west coast of Scotland; and roughly 40% or more of those who were tried were male, and contrary to popular belief: the vast majority of the people who were tried were also found innocent. (just as apoint of interest)
  7. I'm saying you're racist because you're making broad, largely if not completely negative generalised statements about a specific race: ie, white people. You're then going on to say that you can tell I'm white because I'm calling you out on your hypocrisy. I'm sorry, but I really don't credit you with the mental capacity to hold a meaningful debate with anyone here, you're simply throwing around wild accusations and insults at anyone who disagrees with you. Further more, if Dragoonlordz is taking his 'ball and going home' as you say, then you're throwing all of your toys out of the pram because nobody is patting you on the back and telling you how right you are. Dragoonlordz has the right idea; you're not worth my time. I'm done. P.S. I'm Asian.
  8. There's a difference beetween including a basic social normm and shoe-horning in an agenda. That isn't what I said at all, clearly. I said it shouldn't be a soap box for somebody's political agenda, it should be a platform to tell a story that the player can be a part of, not interactive propaganda. No, you're being intolerant of anybody who doesn't agree with you. This is my favourite part: I'm having to use every ounce of civility in my body to stop myself from underlining how moronic that statement is You are a racist, my friend, and a hypocrite to boot.
  9. Absolutely. It's just my tastes, even when I draw, I draw practical.
  10. If there's one classic feature of the cRPG that I've always loved it's the inventory paperdoll. From Daggerfall and Might and Magic VI to Baldur's Gate and beyond, the little girl in me has always loved playing dress up with my character. It's something I'd like to see make a comeback in Project Eternity.
  11. If you wish to create a game with social and political agenda attached, modern world issues projected into a fantasy setting thats your choice. You can do it and I would wish you luck (put it on kickstarter and maybe I will pledge or maybe not), however this is not a game being made to further your own political and social standing or views. It actually makes very little if any sense enforcing real world issues (foirced equality and everyone holding hands singing the hills are alive with the sound of music in peaceful harmony) into this game when this game is set in a fantasy world with potential a vastly darker setting and non evolved civilisations than modern real life values would like to acheive. Exactly this. Just how many rainbows do you want to try and fit in to an M rated game?
  12. Well, I think you'll agree that PST was somewhat unique in that regard, being that the mish-mash of different cultures was pretty integral to the idea of a planar hub like sigil. But can you honestly say that it wouldn't be jarring in a standard European medieval fantasy setting?
  13. Yeah, I love seeing 2d art with he item descriptions, it adds a touch of 'classic class' to proceedings, I think.
  14. It's a game, not a soap box. Again, it's a game. There are a lot of complex and important issues that need to be explored, examined and debated, but not in a medieval fantasy game. Exactly accusations of intolerance, because you are being intolerant. How do you know I'm white? And further more: If that isn't a racist statement then what is?
  15. Well I've always been more in favour of climbing over walls, rather than smashing through them, I think non-combat skills make a game. I mean, don't know many people who don't tag speech in Fallout.
  16. "How can you be so intolerant... of INTOLERANCE?!?" Did you ever consider that being against "social justice" and "political correctness" literally means being for racism and misogyny? Just a thought. No it doesn't. The term 'Social Justice' in the context I used it is a reference to the over complication in labeling sexualities, sexual politics and the zealotry of those who follow the fad when it comes to forcing it down other peoples' throats and accusing people of intolerance simply because they don't agree with the same hyper-liberal standpoint they do. Screaming RACISM or MISOGYNY any time somebody doesn't agree with you is akin to tarring and feathering them because they have a different opinion from you. Those are big accusations to be throwing around so freely.
  17. That's a pretty broad and uneducated generalisation for somebody trying to come across as a liberal and accepting sort of person; opposed to that sort of thinking. So other than being a hypocrite, calling people racists and sub-humans for not agreeing with you (much like every other nazi before you) do you have any valid points or are you going to sit there hurling insults?
  18. Samurai and ninjas are lame outside of their own cultural context, nothing grinds my gears more than seeing a katana in a predominantly medieval-European styled game, it breaks continuity and, frankly it's just there for the sake of pandering to weeaboos.
  19. I'm inclined to agree, I like my weapons believable and functional, gaudy, impratical 'Korean' looking armour is just a bit lame to me, and the typical d&d fare isn't much better either.
  20. Sorry, I just don't think that real world sexual politics have any place in a medieval fantasy setting, I'm aware that being a fantasy game it isn't bound by the rules of history, but frankly the whole idea puts me off, I'm sick of the social justice crowd pushing their hangups on everyone else; I'm all for strong, well written female characters but when you start down that road you end up with pitifully written tripe like Dragon Age. The less a game plays like bad fan fiction the better imo.
