  1. Refugees, economic migrants usually don't have similar integration issues because of language at least here
  2. All three may actually be same news, considering that second is from DailyMail and third picture is from Daily Express ๐Ÿ˜
  3. Native classes have helped quite lot in integration efforts in Finland in comparison offering classes only in Finnish, Swedish and English, as among some refugees there are lots of people especially women who don't know written version of their own language well let alone English (or Finnish or Swedish). Refugee children aren't problem as they learn Finnish quickly usually in couple months, but adults have high risk to become social outsiders because they aren't able to communicate with native Finns.
  4. Blame the government ๐Ÿ˜‹ And it is not cursing it is just https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aggressive_mood ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
  5. That is national secret which one should not speak about ๐Ÿ˜‰
  6. It is mostly waiting, then learning to obey orders, then exercise, then practicing team work, then taking care of your equipment, then how to survive in wilderness, then digging trenches, then shooting and combat practices, then communication practices during time when infrastructure is down, then learning to plant mine field and explode things. No cursing in Russia practices - Finnish phrase vittu saatana kuole ryssรค perkele jumalauta is seen to be enough ๐Ÿ˜‡.
  7. Feasibility and reasonability of conscription depends lots of country's general defensive situation. For example for Finland other options really aren't feasible if we want to maintain ability to defend most of our country. Also Israel and South Korea have similar geopolitical location where other options aren't really options at least today. It is easier to not have conscription when your neighboring country doesn't have several battalions of attack ready troops 50 km of your border
  8. It would be nice if he advocates Traumakine next, hydroxychloroquine boom already increased my stock value quite lot (about +39%) (as Finland's largest pharmaceutical company Orion is one of the largest manufactures of hydroxychloroquine in world), and Traumakine is new drug from another big Finnish pharma company Faron that is tested to help in respiratory diseases. Its value has already increased during corona crisis for 20%, but I believe that it could even double its market value if Trump gives its drug free advertisement
  9. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-020-0820-9 Conclusions In the midst of the global COVID-19 public-health emergency, it is reasonable to wonder why the origins of the pandemic matter. Detailed understanding of how an animal virus jumped species boundaries to infect humans so productively will help in the prevention of future zoonotic events. For example, if SARS-CoV-2 pre-adapted in another animal species, then there is the risk of future re-emergence events. In contrast, if the adaptive process occurred in humans, then even if repeated zoonotic transfers occur, they are unlikely to take off without the same series of mutations. In addition, identifying the closest viral relatives of SARS-CoV-2 circulating in animals will greatly assist studies of viral function. Indeed, the availability of the RaTG13 bat sequence helped reveal key RBD mutations and the polybasic cleavage site. The genomic features described here may explain in part the infectiousness and transmissibility of SARS-CoV-2 in humans. Although the evidence shows that SARS-CoV-2 is not a purposefully manipulated virus, it is currently impossible to prove or disprove the other theories of its origin described here. However, since we observed all notable SARS-CoV-2 features, including the optimized RBD and polybasic cleavage site, in related coronaviruses in nature, we do not believe that any type of laboratory-based scenario is plausible. More scientific data could swing the balance of evidence to favor one hypothesis over another. Obtaining related viral sequences from animal sources would be the most definitive way of revealing viral origins. For example, a future observation of an intermediate or fully formed polybasic cleavage site in a SARS-CoV-2-like virus from animals would lend even further support to the natural-selection hypotheses. It would also be helpful to obtain more genetic and functional data about SARS-CoV-2, including animal studies. The identification of a potential intermediate host of SARS-CoV-2, as well as sequencing of the virus from very early cases, would similarly be highly informative. Irrespective of the exact mechanisms by which SARS-CoV-2 originated via natural selection, the ongoing surveillance of pneumonia in humans and other animals is clearly of utmost importance.
  10. It seems that miracle cure doesn't work https://apnews.com/a5077c7227b8eb8b0dc23423c0bbe2b2 A malaria drug widely touted by President Donald Trump for treating the new coronavirus showed no benefit in a large analysis of its use in U.S. veterans hospitals. There were more deaths among those given hydroxychloroquine versus standard care, researchers reported. The nationwide study was not a rigorous experiment. But with 368 patients, itโ€™s the largest look so far of hydroxychloroquine with or without the antibiotic azithromycin for COVID-19, which has killed more than 171,000 people as of Tuesday. .... About 28% who were given hydroxychloroquine plus usual care died, versus 11% of those getting routine care alone. About 22% of those getting the drug plus azithromycin died too, but the difference between that group and usual care was not considered large enough to rule out other factors that could have affected survival. Hydroxychloroquine made no difference in the need for a breathing machine, either.
  11. To be fair towards communists, it is not like any other state can say that there is enough bread to go around
  12. WHO can't give Taiwan membership outside linked membership through China until UN recognizes Taiwan and UN can't do that until its members like USA recognizes Taiwan as independent entity.
  13. https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/493044-trump-threatens-to-adjourn-both-chambers-of-congress "President Trump on Wednesday threatened to use his executive power to force both chambers of Congress to adjourn if the Senate did not confirm his nominees for vacancies across the administration." Congressional oversight but only if president agrees ๐Ÿ‘‘
  14. USA contributes to lots of specific research projects organized by WHO, but that money doesn't really go WHO, but different medical and pharmaceutical companies that need to do world wide test for their drugs and devices.
  15. They owe membership fees for 99 million as they have not paid for couple years now. USA has only given WHO money to projects in which WHO buys things from USA. https://www.who.int/about/finances-accountability/funding/account_statement/2020/usa_en_2020.pdf
  16. If you say so, what I remember it did not really do that, but as can't read it again as it is moved behind paywall and I don't think that I will pay for subscription just to check, so lets say that you are right. EDIT: As I don't feel that this need any more talk I would say that article doesn't talk about it. As it just glance over idea that politicians needs to debate which exit model to follow, but main point is that writer thinks that it is more important that there is exit strategy than that exit strategy actually works as it gives people hope and feeling that things will return normal. So as I said article has tone where every theory is equal and we need to just pick one that sound best
  17. From where politicians dig those workable solutions if not from technical reports and prediction models based on available data? Should the just guess and hope for best? Of course one should except that politicians have enough understanding to be able use those reports and models to decide actions that best serve their constituents (this includes to holding on ideologies, morals, worldviews, etc.).
  18. It is the title and tone of article which is quite common these days in media which (based on my unproven hypothesis) helps to create atmosphere where scientific evidence and expert testimonies are viewed by many just opinions among others, which leads culture where people just pick opinions/beliefs that fit their worldview best, which has lead many to see conspiracy theories as actual proven things. Politicians are elected to be people's representatives in governmental bodies to decide which direction and how country should proceed. Their decisions are supposed to based on scenarios/options given by experts and bureaucrats of multiple fields so that they can pick best possible route for people they represent and country's chosen path should be option picked by majority of people's representatives and execution of that chosen path done by bunch of experts of their fields and bureaucrats who run governmental institutes and is overseen by cabinet of ministers which consist of representatives, bureaucrats and experts multiple fields. So we need experts to give us possible exits strategies from which we (our representatives) can pick one which we think is best for us and then let experts in our institutes to do and give guidance what is needed to execute that strategy.
  19. In my understanding unclaimed are buried in mass graves instead of incinerated because policy to give their families ability to claim bodies in later date. Also in tv series cops always find evidence helping them to catch serial killer from some poor soul buried in the mass grave whose death was not properly investigated, which may or may not have influenced officials in their decision to keep using mass graves.
  20. I wonder why there are people who trust conspiracy theories and don't care what scientific evidence says ๐Ÿ™„
  21. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/intelligence-report-warned-coronavirus-crisis-early-november-sources/story?id=70031273 "As far back as late November, U.S. intelligence officials were warning that a contagion was sweeping through Chinaโ€™s Wuhan region, changing the patterns of life and business and posing a threat to the population, according to four sources briefed on the secret reporting." Is it really intelligence if it is only read when people do retrospect analyze?
  22. It is only mentioned that help from Pentagon by sending letter to 20-30 people
  23. According NYT's article Captain Crozier had repeatedly asked his superiors to make speedy action to evacuate the ship and because there was no action made to evacuate the ship he sent letter to 20-30 people in different high positions of government to ask help. Said letter was then leaked to press by somebody who received it. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/03/us/politics/coronavirus-brett-crozier-theodore-roosevelt.html
