  1. Here, a perfect example came up of what I mean: https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/3i1fvu/how_team_fortress_2_perfectly_illustrates_the/cudoy1f As others have highlighted...? No, I shouldn't bother with people like this, and of course, it's just an internet discussion so who cares. The only reason I can give for why I bother is because I know there's been moments in my life where I was certain someone was wrong or an idiot or something, and I was so deadset on my personal opinion and mindset, and then I grew older and found that looking back on it, I was ignorant as ****. I get in discussions a lot about all sorts of topics cause I'm either eager to be proven wrong and learn something (then or later) OR I like to think like just like I've personally experienced, there are times when people I've spoken to have remembered things I've said and it's helped them change their minds. (then or later) I like to think that, anyways.
  2. You know how it goes. You youtube search for a song, hoping to listen to it, and instead you discover that the song itself is protected by 40 walls of copyright, and instead youtube wants to feed you multiple cover versions people have done, most of which are **** or just don't do it for you. But what about the ones that are good? I mean REALLY good, to the point where you want more? Making this thread because I recently discovered that if you want to find the mystical land of nonstop good coverage, look up Cowboy Bebop covers: Was incredibly surprised and amazed to see how consistently the quality of Cowboy Bebop covers was actually good. That one even involved someone writing english lyrics for a Japanese song, yet the lyrics are actually really ****ing good. Expected to cringe, instead I favorited. The old spaniard with the guitar also threw me off cause the intro "sample" tune is so basic, and yet his actual song cover is just freaking amazing. But yeah, what are some song covers you've come across that you actually loved?
  3. People just like to hate on the mainstream stuff and give the impression that they know some alternative program that's fully superior but people are too dumb to realize it. Hell, Apple ran an entire ad campaign geared at such people.
  4. When I post on my phone or ipad or something, all that ends up happening is I type something like "I like a lot of songs by the Doors" and it comes out "I lick a lot of swans on the whores" and then I'm just like "wtf autocorrect??"
  5. I actually DON'T like filtering my posts down. It's like I feel as though I can get my thought process across better if I write it as I want to write it. Filtering down is only something I might do if it's crystal clear I've blatantly repeated myself. I get it from both sides, it's just annoying latley cause like I'll be randomly roaming the internet, I'll discover fans of show X and fans of show Z debating about if show Z is ****, I'll comment and provide just a bit of input from how things look from my outsider perspective, and then someone's like "LOL OMG U WROTE SO MUCH, UR OBVIOUSLY BUTTHURT AND A HUGE SHOW Z FANBOY" and it's like well **** me how do I respond to that when clearly the person has just turned my post size into their personal shield so that they don't even have to engage in a discussion with me. Lame, understandable, but frustrating lately.
  6. Nah it's not even reaching a point of "who is right," it's been more about "I want to discredit your post and not even respond to it by pointing out that it's long," then said discussion just doesn't even start or happen period. :c
  7. That's all. :C Minor rant, nothing more. Just gotta be the sixth time this week that I've provided input on some random tangent subject that arose in a discussion and then the response to my well-thought out post on the matter I bothered to write up is "WOW U SURE WROTE A LOT, U MUST CARE WAAAAAY MORE THAN U SHULD OR BE MAD OR BE A BLATANT FANBOY OF X OR BE BORING OR SUCK AT LIFE, LOL." Then I sigh cause I know they wrong and I in the habit of writing a lot on EVERYTHING (even this post ended up way longer than I initially thought), I know they should focus on what I say and not on how it was said, but I know there's jack all I can do about this. So yeah. :c SO HOW R U GUIS? Any of you got something where you wish you could convince a person otherwise but you know it's not within your power to actually do so?
  8. Shush. I'm an eternal optimist. Believe it or not, I actually enjoyed Skyrim, but it's partially because I expect different things from an Elder Scrolls game than from every other RPG I played (including Fallout, which is why I'm not a fan of FO3). I honestly think the shift gave use some interesting improvements, my favorite being perk trees; they have potential if handled well (not that Bethesda knows how, with their "no level cap! be all and do all!" attitude) My main gripe is that some of Skyrim's major weaknesses are in the areas that can't be fixed with mods, and that's what I'm worried about. But that's neither here nor there. To be fair, I would say there's a SMALL chance it could be better. Like FO4's development did overlap with Skyrim, so it's understandable they share common elements, and perhaps they begrudgingly embraced that even after recognizing flaws with Skyrim. Thus, the next game - which saw no such overlap - will have the chance to try new completely different systems and improve on past faults. Still though, let's not kid ourselves, the chance is still small. If you mean "areas that can't be fixed with mods" to mean their NPC interactions and storylines? Oh yeah, that'll continue to be awful. I don't bother criticizing their storyline that much....and that's the biggest insult I can give. I criticize the RPG aspects of their games for example because I know Bethesda can do better. I don't bother to do anything but chuckle at how awful their plots are because holy crap they can't write worth a damned and thus there's no point in me expending any time or effort into critiquing it.
  9. Me? I've never pre-ordered a collector's edition. Come to think of it, I've never actually pre-ordered. Wish I'd pre-ordered New Vegas though, but don't regret not doing so since I consider not doing so more logical. At least this time it feels like effort was put into the collector's edition instead of some $200 dragon statue, though really at the end of the day, I think most of us can agree those Pip-boys will end up on a shelf collecting dust, being functionally worthless. I don't think it will be like FO3 anyways. I feel like something that made FO3 interesting was that at the beginning of the game you had like no stimpacks and ammo. Like your first playthrough before you realized VATs is broken, survival was tough. Made the game fun. Now though we all know that, plus I'm getting the vibe that laser musket is an early find and they will feed you enough ammo to play with it, so yeah. Not to mention of course that with less stats, I do expect more simplistic gameplay, and I do also expect the voiced protagonist to infringe on roleplay a bit. EDIT: Slightly off-topic, but this ties into how I feel with my criticisms: That guy's schtick is that he reviews the Sims series, but he's very critical, cynical and snarky about it and yes he'll tell you if an expansion is a blatant cash grab with no meaningful content. Found his channel because it was refreshing to see such an honest reviewer, and found his vids well before I even owned Sims 3. Despite his snark, it's super obvious he's a fan of the series. He's always talking about it and praising it as one of "the best games franchises ever." Despite this, people have apparently been thinking criticism = he hates it, thus provoking that video. I hate that simple-minded outlook where someone's criticism needs to be shunned cause it means they're a hater, rather than omg maybe we just don't want the series to become so watered down and focused on money that it loses itself.
  10. Don't get me wrong, I know damned well the same thing will happen every single time, I just choose to voice my opinion all the same because I'm just a vocal person. I'm also not legitimately upset here or anything, I just speak passionately, and of course emotion is difficult to convey online. I point out my "I told you so"'s needing to be passed out because it's like holy hell, some of those people over there, I owe two generations of I told you so's. It's frustrating, but also incredibly fascinating to watch the same "mistake" be made over and over and over. I also like to continue voicing my opinion because I think that if even one person listens, then that's good. Again, I don't mean to sound like "FO4 will be crap and those that believe so have the superior opinion," it's more that I would argue the superior way to view any game is critically and with patience and thought, not knee-jerk pre-orders that don't serve any purpose when made so early. The disadvantage I see to pre-ordering is what you named and also that it encourages companies to adopt a tone stressing marketing rather than just focusing on gameplay. I do sincerely question how much of a hit a game takes when the company stresses marketing. Skyrim for example, the entire area around Riverwood was pretty fleshed out, almost as if it was given special care so that the press would likely buy into the idea that all of the game got as much care as that area. It also encourages companies to make a game that people will like enough to purchase the next one, but nothing special beyond that. Reading your post, sounds like they've succeeded. But yeah I recall Todd making statements where he'd say "most players wouldn't appreciate this feature" so they should axe it....well, he's not WRONG, but it's clear he's focused on a demographic that doesn't play TES or Fallout as thoroughly as you or I. He's addressing people who, for example, think "Caesar = bad cuz slavery bad" and just walk into the tent and reload multiple times to try and kill him without even bothering to try and talk to the guy or understand him, and to this day have not given his arguments a look. And not to be cynical, but you know as well as I do that TES 6 will suck. I think that in order for there to be improvement rather than the casualized style games they've been making (which again if you like that, by all means buy. I hate it though, thus I don't), they need a kick in the butt and a title to bomb before that happens. I was expecting FO4 to be my make-or-break title. Wanted to see if they followed any of the design choices of New Vegas or if it would be Skyrim 2.0 (which btw, yes, I do consider worse than FO3), but based on what we've been seeing, I may not even need to watch a Let's Play to draw conclusions. I will of course, but I fully expect "Skyrim with guns" at this point." I don't know if you can expect a voiced protagonist for the next TES game (I'd argue that Skyrim did well enough to support TES as a series on it's own merit whereas Fallout got this crap because it's a blatant copy of the Mass Effect style so people think "a sci fi title with that dialog style? I LOVE games like that!!"), but I bet you can expect more lackluster features ala Skyrim.
  11. Which as I said with my above example, nothing is stopping you from pre-ordering a week before release. There's no purpose or motivation to pre-ordering so early. Listen, please don't be offended because of lines like "good job getting hit by the hype train...idiot" because I don't mean anything by it and I'd talk this way to myself, but if we're being as objective as possible here, then have I not highlighted a severe ****ing flaw in pre-ordering a game the MOMENT it's pre-order button is up, when you have the option to wait several months, get more information, and then decide ~1 week in advance if you wanna pre-load and purchase that game or not?? Rage is a bit strong, though not gonna fault you for interpreting it that way since yeah, internet and text. Am I maybe a bit bitter? Perhaps. Does it frustrate me to watch? Oh yeah. And it frustrates me because I get to sit here, make logical conclusions about what to expect from a game, fast forward and hot damn the very same logical conclusions and predictions I was making that were met with "stfu hater ur just mad cuz FO3 is better than new vegas" or "if u dun like it then leave u clearly just hate bethesda" or "u just need something to complain about" turn out to be 100% right. And each time it's "u just got lucky u were right" and this has been going on since the days leading up to the release of Skyrim, where I accurately highlighted how prerequisite perks for example will seriously hinder character variety since everyone will take EVERY perk leading to the badass level 100 ones, and how that could mean we might see a lot of garbage perks that are validated only by being neccesary to unlock the level 100 ones. It frustrates me because games keep getting stupider and stupider and stupider. Why? This picture sums it up pretty well for me: Removed cartoon of Winnie the Pooh eating something unsavory from his honey jar, Tigger begging him to stop, and Winnie exclaiming: "Don't worry, mods will fix it!" By no means am I saying "omg terrible game is terrible and screw you if you buy it." By all means, if this looks like a title that interests you, keep an eye on it and buy it. I've no beef with people legitimately wanting to buy and play a game like Fallout 4. I do however have quite a bone to pick with people who are sooooo loyal to the brand that any criticism or observation I make must be shut down or ignored because criticism is not allowed (not talking Beth forums btw here, that's not the cause of my ban) because criticism - even when valid - is a big no no. It's very painful to follow games like Fallout 4 from announcement up to release and see how my opponents shift from "stfu, you're speculating about something we barely know anything about. What kind of idiot does that? Bethesda would never implement what you're describing" to "yeah and? These features sound amazing, I'm hyped. This is what everyone wanted. Level and SPECIAL caps were poor game design and needed to be fixed" to whatever the hell the next step will be. Probably "the people complaining about the lack of character diversity are the vocal minority. They're here b****ing on the forums while the vast majority are actually playing the game and TRYING to enjoy themselves." Here's a study I find faaaar too relevant to games these days: I feel like I've done this song and dance several times now. Skyrim, Sims 4, Fallout 4....I listen to the info I'm provided with, try my best to imagine what it might be like from a gameplay perspective, then post some criticisms and highlight some potential problem areas I see. Within minutes I've got 20 people lining up to tell me I'm a loser and I suck the D because how dare I criticize their amazing anticipated game which is obviously set to be the Second Coming of Jesus Christ Our Lord and Savior? Then they all go off to pre-order a title that they're in absolutely zero rush or obligation to pre-order immediately, then some big-named company takes their money, runs, and several months down the line, half of the very people who were so loyal are complaining about what a lackluster experience the game was in retrospect. Then the next shiny game comes out and the cycle repeats. And not to sound arrogant, but so far I'm batting a thousand. Every prediction I've made with the above titles listed turned out correct; I don't think it's much an accomplishment really anyways, as it's somewhat easy to try and imagine the implications of a gameplay feature. (for example they've bragged about the hundreds of weapons you can make via modding, I rationalize that I have severe doubts that the vast majority of those have any semblance of balance and that many will be near worthless or inferior to counterparts by a clear margin. This one's yet to be seen of course, but I honestly don't think we need to wait on this; not bashing on Bethesda here either, as I don't think ANYONE could properly balance that many weapon mod combos. Only way I'm bashing them is for choosing to have that many to begin with. That's like rushing down a Polar bear with a spoon.) I only mention that because yeah I would definitely be more humble and less aggressive if I was hitting and missing, but no, I made these exact predictions a day or so after watching the trailer. Inb4 Deathclaws are dragons 2.0 and nothing but glorified bullet sponges that only tickle a power-armored player and provide the illusion of "scurry enemy" just by having a crapton of HP, cause that was my prediction on the list. So yeah, it is frustrating to do that and to repeatedly be lambasted for thinking critically simply on the grounds of daring to think critically. And just for clarity, none of you here have done this. I only post the above because you sounded curious as to what my beef is. There's my explanation. Cant EDIT: Removed cartoon because of language filter... and it was really nasty. lol ...But it did make the point my Mack the Knife friend was trying to convey.
  12. https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/3ghyzd/looks_like_you_can_indeed_increase_your_special/ Mfw I can't go on the Bethesda forums to tell all those "ur just being negative n u haet bethesda and that's just baseless speculation, ur wrong hater" people "I told you so" because LITERALLY ALL OF MY PREDICTIONS ARE COMING TRUE.
  13. Just for clarity, there's still no official confirmation on SPECIAL being something you can raise. However, it's heavily implied because: 1) SPECIAL starts incredibly low 2) No level cap would be pretty moot unless there's more perks to take, and if SPECIAL is capped then perks will be limited 3) Pete's quote implied you'll get more points later
  14. Curious as to how many of you have already pre-ordered/plan to buy first day. Given the no level cap news and Pete's implication SPECIAL can be raised (if not maxed), I have no desire to buy this game unless it somehow blows everyone away with revolutionary gameplay or a suprise quality storyline, which of course the realist in me knows won't happen. Also, minor rant? Stop ****ing pre-ordering games, you idiots. What is the purpose of pre-ordering? The purpose is....or was...that back before digital copies, if the title was expected to be insanely popular, you'd reserve a copy so that there'd be no disappointment on release day when the store tells you they've got no CDs left. For example, the Wii was stupidly popular. Was pre-ordering the Wii a wise idea? Yes. Is pre-ordering Fallout 4 a wise idea? No. Why? Because these are digital copies. If Bethesda so desired, they could give everyone in the entire country of China with internet access a copy of Fallout 4. There is no shortage on it because it's no longer physical. So let's pretend for a minute that, one week before release, Bethesda drops a bomb on us and it's crystal clear that Fallout 4 will be the most revolutionary game of all time, and it'll house some revolutionary feature that makes it an obvious must-have. Here I am, wrong as hell about every suspicion I've had that the game will suck, and now I wanna buy it. I do so. Where is the difference between my pre-ordered-one-week-before-release copy and your "I pre-ordered in July before they even released PC system requirements" copy? Unless you bought the glorified Iphone case version, there is no difference between my purchase and yours. We both get to play the game immediately once it's released. So why the HELL did you go ahead and pre-order with the limited info you had...? Grats on getting hit by the hype train...idiot.
  15. http://ca.ign.com/videos/2015/08/08/fallout-4-how-the-new-perks-system-works-gamescom-2015 A snippet in there: "You can walk out the gate with 10 strength and get this crazy strength perk that other folks maybe won't be able to get for quite a long time." Again, it seems to imply that when I made my predictions there'd be no level cap and SPECIAL will eventually be maximized, I was correct. Again, I find myself wishing I had a way to pay all those people on the Bethesda forums with the "I told you so"'s that I now owe them. :C
  16. Because I am not a dishonest individual, and while I can criticize the crap out of their ****ty ban system that NEVER has warning points expire even if it results in year old members with only 0.0005% of their posts being deemed inappropriate by the mod staff being permanently banned from all forum access, I still accept the fact that it's their website and their rules, so I'm ready to play by said rules and respect that. You keep exploring the world (because exploration is the main feature!) and also the plot device enemy type (Oblivion gate, Enclave, dragon attacks) will continue to occur despite the resolution. My concerns were two-fold: SPECIAL can be maxed slowly over time and there will be no level cap. Half of my predictions are now correct, so I'm just waiting for it to be revealed that you gradually gain more SPECIAL points through gameplay. Think about it: what purpose does continuing to level serve if you're restricted to ~28 base perks that you unlocked with your SPECIAL? Exactly, it would serve no purpose once you unlock all perks available to you....unless you can increase the amount of perks available to you and get those too.
  17. I wish I still had Bethesda forum access because I owe a lot of people "I told you so"'s right now. Also amazed at how many people are considering this good news...
  18. Fed my Schadenfreude gland some delicious cringe from EA failing hard with the new Sims 4 expansion announcement. I don't even own the game, I'm just bitter as hell and wanna see these big named companies get kicked in the nuts so they're forced to stop pushing out sub par products.
  19. Why is Scientology any more insane than any other religion? Because they believe in a different extra-terrestrial? Seems to me that all religions are soapboxing. To be fair, Scientology does suck up people's money like only those 24/7 religious Christian broadcasting channels do that try to feed off senile old people by selling them cheap crap and asking for donations. Yes that's a perfect example of other religions acting the same, but Christians will of course condemn the actions of such channels. The money-making scam of Scientology is a large part of why it's called a cult and also not something only done by SOME parts of Scientology or something condemned by the majority of Scientologists. Having said that, yes, the only difference between a "cult" and a "religion" is pretty much the size of it's following. The victors write the history books, as they say.
  20. Happened across some news about Sims 4, saw it was terrible, then took the opportunity to feed my Schadenfreude gland by browsing all the corners of the internet that suggested EA was actually getting the reception they deserve. While browsing, I happened across this and thought you guys might enjoy it: http://i.imgur.com/OToGoRa.png (edited to fix link)
  21. WUBBA LUBBA DUB DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUB
