  1. I think that's exactly what I am going to do. THe EMP rifle is awesome in its own way but that's a goshdarn large amount of points to spend on a weapon that's only useful against half your enemies.
  2. Thanks. That's something to keep an eye on. And it looks like they are really working on it too. WIth user mods that is always important!
  3. That was quite a while ago. Is it still being worked on? edit: I found something called Tenebrae 1.04 but its a QUake 1 source code modification. DX used the unreal engine, IIRC, so don't think that's connected. There's some sort of DX Mod called zodiac which appears to be some single-playh er levels.
  4. Well, its good to know the game can actually be installed and launched now. I'm totally going to buy it once its released in the US, but I'm in no rush. I like to support dev houses I like by buying games in the first 2 weeks if possible, but that probably won't happen here. Some day game companies, publishers and devs both, are going to realize that they can make more money if they release bugfree games. No skin off my back though. I just wait until its patched, or until it becomes apparent that no one cares enough to patch it. If I end up picking it up for 1/2 the price after waiting, then its the game companies that are losing not me.
  5. Well, I finally reached the Many level. Ran around for a while, got bored, and then stopped. That level really does not appeal to me. I started a new character though. A melee marine. I'm going to try to go the non-hacking route, although the temptaion will be hard to resist. The big question will be if I am going to build the energy weapon tree. They are wasted points by the end game, but if you do it early enough, its a pretty good tree against bots and cyborgs. My last character reminded me just how sucky the heavy weapons route is. Stupid plasma cannon is more of a danger to you than it is any of your enemies. I blow myself apart a handful of times and it still takes 5 or 6 shots to bring down a rumbler. bleah.
  6. I've never heard of that one. Linkypoo?
  7. I didn't realize that Ken Levine was the actual Lead Designer on SS2, one of the three people most responsible for it. On the one hand that is good news since SS2 is for the most part a relentlessly awesome game. (Thumbs down to the Many level though). One the other hand though, he seems so intent on remaking SS2 vs making something new, that I wonder if he can put the same parts together again in just the right way once again. I'm quite curious in seeing the finished produ now. Here's hoping it doesn't vaporize.
  8. Well, since it looks like i will be replaying Deus Ex again shortly, I went and tracked down the shifter mod. I thought I'd post it here as well. This is a nifty little mod for Deus Ex. I highly recommend it but only for people who have already played DX to death and are looking for something new. It makes too many changes to the core gameplay for me to be able to recommend it to someone playing DX for the first time. The last version I played was 1.3. This is 1.5.1. http://www.megagames.com/news/html/patches...erv151mod.shtml
  9. I once did that in game. :">
  10. I just boarded the RIckenbacker and am preparing for the final levels. I have um 3000 unspent nanites and 200 unspent cyber modules. I really have played this game way too much.
  11. My current Bloodlines game is currently just about to start the haunted mansion. I really need to get going on it. I have too many games going on at once. Female, Brujah, Unarmed, Persuasion, Firearms, Celerity. Totally awesome!
  12. OMG Meta! What you did to Simons was horrible! Simply horrible! I'll have to try it.
  13. The whole laser tree isn't so hot in SS2. OK against bots though and free ammo. I hate those spiders.
  14. OMG I totally forgot about him. That little weiner guy. When I first played the game I thought he was going to have a bigger role, but he was really just around for that one mission. I thought that was a little strange: introducing a singular character like that so late in the game.
  15. My fave non-hacking character is a melee marine with backup in standard weapons. Takes a lot of damage, but since they are tough, fast, and strong, they can absorb it and really dish it out in return. A non-hacking char really need to have either psi or melee since they can't get a lot of supplies thorugh hacking so they tend to run out of ammo quickly.
  16. So you can technically avoid Gunther and Walton and simply run away from the fight? I never even thought to try that. That's what I get for thinking with my assault shotgun and not my head!
  17. You have to kill Walton Simons manu et manu. You also have to dispose of Gunther and Anna either by killing them outright or by "trickery". You are also sometimes forced to kill Manderley if he pulls a gun on you. Which doesn't usually happen unles you leave then return to his office after he talks with Simons. True! But it's brute force stealth. Stealth should be subtle and elegant. Like me.
  18. Yes it does. You can play the entire game stealthy. You can also play it guns blazing or a combination of both. You can also go a long way with conversations. There are many ways to go through the game. It's very good. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can't stealth your way out of the lab building one you upload the dragon sword schematics. You can run by the guards while invisible, but that's not the same. The implementation of stealth was always something of a sore spot for me. It was OK in DX but not very good.
  19. I don't know if there really is or not. I'm just guessing at why SS2 has remained fresher longer than DX. Each time I play a game of SS2, I think I'm going to be bored, but then I get sucked right in. The last couple times I played DX I couldn't make it past the first visit to Hell's Kitchen. Maybe its due to the huge amount of dialogue in DX that I've already heard a thousand times? SS2 doesn't have that and is more of a viseral experience, whereas Deus Ex is more of an intellectual experience? I don't know really.
  20. I'm normally not a big fan of respawning enemies either, but in the case of SS2 I think the resapwning works. Mostly because you have to travel back and forth all over the ship and if cleared areas stayed clear, it would get a little tedious. The fact that there may be an enemy lurking keeps you on your toes. ANd the respawn factor isn't huge. Maybe you run into 2 or 3 enemies on your way through a previosuly cleared sector. Compare that to say NOLF 2 where the enemy respawning almost killed what was otherwise a fine game.
  21. That's awesome. Wow. People are so creative!
  22. *sniff* It was a little BIS flashback there for a moment. I felt so young again.
  23. well discounted prices are always a good thing no doubt! I would just be nervous about paying for it with a buggy, crappy game that I ordered in advance. Before it became buggy and lost half its features.
  24. For the longest time I preferred Deus Ex. But after many replays of both, I found myself getting bored with DX but not System Shock 2. I think its because you can build a wider variety of player characters in SS2 and so it stays fresher longer. Maybe? So anyway, I would give the nod to SS2 at this point, but that is kind of like saying I would prefer to be given 1 million dollars rather then 900,000 dollars. It's all good, baby!
  25. Two of the best! Similar, yet different. Like FO 1 and FO 2.
