  1. I'm curious if anyone played it? I had some less than positive experiences with those string of XCOM rip-off games a few years ago, which weren't awful but were ultinately a waste of money. That tiny number of reviews at MC isn't very helpful.
  2. http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/...?q=hired%20guns metacritic has nothing at the moment. It appears a blatant ripoff of Jag 2 (with the emphasis on blatant), which could be good or could be bad. I saw it at BEst Buy and am skeptical but curious. Anybody have any xp with it?
  3. If you read the EULA, you will notice "your eternal soul" in fine print at the bottom. The expansion packs may also require your firstborn child and a sacrificial virgin. I'm actually a little worried about that...
  4. I've just stopped playing it because of respawning enemies. It's an incredible design flaw for a stealth based game. Of course, you can play it as a regular shooter and respawning enemies wouldn't be much problem in that case. IIRC, the reason for the respawning enemies was to increase the need for being stealthy. In other words, you couldn't simply kill everybody in the level to achieve your objective, since no matter how many you killed there would always be more. Ergo, don't kill them, but rather sneak past them. That being said, the process didn't work very well.
  5. When I started exploring outside Vault 101 and came upon something I couldn't open because my lockpick skill wasn't high enough, I almost stood up and applauded. It took Bethesda how long to figure that out? "You need a lockpick skill of 25 to open this lock" Yay! It's not freaking rocket science. Skill levels need to have a purpose or don't put them in the the freaking game. Of course, I fully expect that in ES5, I'll be opening the hardest locks in the game with only a 5 skill in lockpicking. Again.
  6. Can I play 2 or three hours a week and still get something out of the game? Or does it require a serious time commitment to get anywhere?
  7. The exploration is much better in FO3. Plus it is great that the hideous learn-by-doing crap has been replaced by a more conventional XP system Plus there some common sense things like minimum skil requirements to perform certain tasks. It actually feels like skills are worthwhile. Plus my pc has actually died several times when means the world is actually a scary place, which is nice. I still don't get the feeling though that Bethesda really understands how to put together a compelling crpg experience. They put all these pieces in place, pieces that generally work ok on their own, but there seems to be no unifying force or vision binding it all together. Or something.
  8. Makes sense. Thank you.
  9. FO3. Made it to megaton. I bought some armor and fixed some leaky pipes with my repair skill. Then I sold some scrap metal and listened to some guy worship an atomic bomb. ... Bethesda really doesn't believe that writing is important, do they?
  10. I never expected to write it.
  11. Are there any particualrly strong classes? Any weak ones? ANyones to avoid? It seems like priests are in high demand generally, though the class is not that powerful individually.
  12. SO you guys would recommend an RP server over a PvE server? How hardcore is the rp on the rp servers? I'm sure it's a testament to all my hideous personal failings and insecurities, but I'm not entirely sure I can roleplay in any serious way.
  13. What kind of loot is there in Eve. DOn't ships just blow apart into balls of cosmic dust?
  14. Oh I see by the display that he's in some kind of mech. I thought it was a fighter of some sort at first.
  15. true dat. *considers*
  16. What game is that? FEAR2 I thought it was a Descent game. Weird.
  17. lol. I've been lame all my life, Nighshape, too late to start worrying about it now. Just dig in and hope for the best.
  18. OK. Which one?
  19. I almost tried Eve a long time ago, but what stopped me was when I found out it wasn't a dogfighting space combat sim. I love dogfighting, in space or otherwise. But when I realized Eve wasn't twitch-based, my interest dropped dramatically. But if I read something wrong at some point, please feel free to correct me.
  20. Thanks, DJ. That's great. PvE definitely seems the way to go for starters. The way you described your experience, you seem to have moved from server to server without any problems. So I can assume that one is not locked into a single server for the life of their account?
  21. I'm buying three copies if its good. If it's bad I'm buying two*. Go go Alpha Protocol. *If its really bad I may just buy one.
  22. I'm thinking of giving my WoW free trial a spin jus to see what it is like. Are there any servers that are better than others? For a n00b? Once I create my account am I permanently attached to one server and can I create pcs on different servers? Is a PvP sever really that bad for a n00b? Is PvE much better? Are PvP servers more fun once you have higher level character to play around with? I don't know much so any info is useful.
  23. lol. Too true. By the time I clicked on the exit door it was too late. Once the "redo your pc?" screen came up there was no way to get out of it to save. Or at least I couldn't figure out a way. I guess I'll sit through Liam Neeson's cringe inducing dialogue once more. I hope I can remember which one is the exit door before I click on it. The autosave at that point saves before you leave the vault, so if you reload that then you're good. lol. I noticed that when I did my second playthrough. ooops. I probably should have checked first. Kudos to Bethy for thinking that way.
  24. You know you are never going to play any game but WoW, G1. Stop fooling yourself.
  25. I pretty much agree with Morgoth. Most genre stuff, in whatever medium, is pretty much just hand-me-downs at this point. But as long as old ideas are done well, it's good enough for entertainment's sake. In games, I just hope to see some new wrinkle in gameplay and environments, but I don't expect much in the way of anything new from the stories. Which I think is really OK.
