  2. I would rather say that the swoop racing on PC is way too easy to even be interesting.... Anyway, I think the case is that the PC version simply doesn't support gamepads...
  3. I would guess that you're pressing the wrong key in-game so that it doesn't recognize that you wanted to get the console up.
  4. First of all, I hope it's ok to say what I'm saying below. I think it should be as this is a problem that probably only affects us legitimate game owners and as it doesn't seem likely that this will ever be fixed officially. I think the problem you're experiencing is the same as the one I ran into when I installed the game again (I had the game running on this same machine around the time when the game was pretty new). I didn't try reverting to 1.0, but my fresh installation, with the same "a", "b" and "movie" patches applied as I had the last time I played the game, it crashed immediately the same way you described. It didn't spin up the CD or anything, I just got the "send crash info to microsoft?" dialog immediately when starting the game. I'm reasonably confident that this crashing problem in the "b" version is due to the different Securom version used in the "b" patch. And, to no huge surprise, the game ran perfectly if I applied a third party *cough* nocd *cough* patch for the "b" version. I don't recall if I had to resort to this same workaround the last time I played the game or if the "b" patch worked back then, but I do recall that there were a fair share of people on the forums who couldn't get the game to run for this exact reason back when the "b" patch was initially released. (That's where my idea on the cause and how to work around it came from.) I hope this can help someone, or preferably that an official solution can finally be released, but that doesn't seem very likely at this point.
  5. Yes, thanks for NWN2! Overall, I think it's a terrific game. It does need some fixing (and Atari needs a good whipping for causing further problems), but all in all, great game!
  6. Hehe, yeah... AT LAST! It's an interesting twist that it's NVIDIA that hosts this patch, not LucasArts... How the .... did that happen? (It suggests that a problem with getting the patch out was that LucasArts wasn't willing to host it...?)
  7. Personally I didn't think the game was crap. I played through the game (1.0a), with only a few small problems and had a good time with the game. Sure, the ending was on the weak side, but I think that the way there is more important. I was thinking of playing through the game again, but noticed that I can't... (Unless I reinstall and don't install the patch, obviously.) What bothers me is that I was thinking of maybe waiting with playing through the game again until the improved music/movies patch is out, but I assume that it'll have the same problems... So I guess I can forget about that. Well, well...
  8. 1.0 (and 1.0a) have both run mostly well for me, but as of 1.0b it doesn't seem to like my game CD any more. I've searched the net and found that the copy protection system was changed in the 1.0b version (to Securom 7?), which I assume is the reason for my problem. Has anyone else here encountered the same problem? If so, did you find any way around the problem? Where should I direct my complaints? LucasArts?
  9. http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?sh...ndpost&p=336124 is probably what you're thinking of... That was about a month ago, though...
  10. You never know whatever they are doing besides the movies and music....they might be completing the game like they should have done from the beginning. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Considering that it's not Obsidian who are delaying the patch but LucasArts, nothing points in that direction. And I don't think it's very probable that any huge changes to the game will be made at this point.
  11. As far as I know the B does not signify that it is a beta or anything like that. It's simply the successor of the A version of the patch which only fixed some minor manual issues in the "UK" (European English) version. The "high resolution" movies could be cut-scenes handled by the game engine. Anyway, it should not be so difficult to test them and see if they work correctly. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There could very well be non-technical issues too. Let's just hope that the music/cutscene patch doesn't get stuck at LA.
  12. There are probably three main reasons: * Different players do things differently. Ie, players do things in different order and some might skip some things in the game entirely. This causes the game to be in different states for different players when a certain scene occurs. Sometimes there are glitches in the game causing some combinations of earlier actions to cause the game to bug out. * People have different hardware and drivers (and driver versions) in their computers. This causes compatibility problems to arise. (There simply is no such thing as a "standard computer" when it comes to x86 PCs) * People have various degrees of third party software installed that may interfere under certain circumstances. (In this section I include all sorts of malware (viruses, etc) in addition to the intentionally installed applications.)
  13. Not enough experience? These are the people who made Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale 1, and Icewind Dale 2, and numerous other games prior to the formation of Black Isle. They have the experience. What they need is a publisher that gives a crap which Lucas Arts does not. The only way KotOR 3 will be worth getting is if LA isn't the publisher. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, that's definitely not going to happen for obvious reasons... But I agree, I definitely don't think that the entire blame is to be put on Obsidian. (In the case of this patch, it sounds like Obsidian had it ready when they announced that it'd be out in a few days... So their mistake in that case was probably to say "in a few days", rather than "whenever LA wants to release it".)
  14. Are you sure that is a bug in the game? (It sounds like it could be some random driver problem... Have you checked that you have the latest chipset and graphics drivers installed?)
  15. Because it also has 1.0A things I guess (Manual and such...) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, that would be sw_pc_uk_from200420_to211427.zip, right? (It's also there.)
  16. That file you mentioned _IS_ on the lucasarts ftp server... ftp://ftp.lucasarts.com/patches/pc/sw_pc_...20_to211427.zip The manual update is (as they mention) not yet available, but should be out soon... Now, why the UK patch is slightly larger than the US patch is hard to tell (I have no clue as to what differences there are between the US and UK game versions). But I wouldn't be shocked if there is no notable difference between what the US and the UK patches fix.
  17. John Morgan (Deveĺoper) wrote (in another thread): The "High Quality movies" are too big for this patch and are going to be put into their own patch which should be up in just a day or two (everything's done, just need to build them). Let's hope that is the case!
  18. Another thanks to both of you! I had the very same problem, too. I wish everyone asking about problems were good enough to post their solutions, like you did. It can really help others.
