RTS Fans: Medieval 2 Total War Announced

Well what do you know, first post and I already have some good news for you guys. Heroic victory number one! On with the show! As you can see, I managed to get it working finally. We've got the greek cities unlocked there without having to play through the campaign. I decided to go with Very Hard/Very Hard for Campaign/Battle difficulties with Manage all settlements on and most crucially no battle time limit. I really, really hate time limits in my battles. Now on to the campaign where... I promptly remove all my actual combat troops from Sparta and send them to lay seige to Corinth. Unfortunatly my spy has declined to open the gates for me on this turn however we shall see what he does on the next turn. In the mean time I can build up some seige engines to help me past the wall should my spy fail to open the gates once again. With that taken care of I decide to build up my economy a little by building ports in any city that does not yet have one. I start with the economic buildings that take the shortest time to build (roads or traders) and move up from there so that I'm getting something while waiting for the larger economic buildings to come in. I head over to Rhodes and pack up my General and his mercenary slingers onto the boats and send them over to the mainland to hopefully have them join up with my Spartans to take Corinth from the Macedonians. My Diplomat from that city in Asia Minor moves as far as he can to the east this turn in preparation for a trip south to pick up the Rebel city on the coast and to hopefully broker a peace with the Seleucids who are usually only all to willing to sign a treaty at this point in the game. Over to Syracuse now and I see that there is a Scipii army sitting outside Messena so I hit the offensive and move my hoplites, archers and general from the city just to the south of the Romans and leave him there for this turn. Since Syracuse is now in revolt mode I lower taxes to make them happier and the little red face becomes a yellow one. Time to end my turn... Those crafty Scipii dare to challenge me! They attack my poor little army with their forces and manage to gain their reinforcements right away in the battle. Thankfully he decides not to keep them all together but instead has them split up as the march towards me. I deploy my troops in the far corner from where the enemy is and place them as high up the slopes of Mt. Etna as allowed. That looks like a fair fight to you doesn't it? You can see the separation of his forces in the first picture there and my wall o' death in the second, ready to take on those puny Roman scum! They march right into my spears and soon enough... I have myself my first heoric victory of my greek campaign. Strangely enough upon the beginning of my next turn I recieve a message. I've been officially declared an annoyance. Now I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty sure that I saw him attack me first. Sure I moved military troops into his territory but I was just passing through honest! It's not my fault you attacked me. I had to defend myself you know. Surely being an annoyance is as bad as being an enemy right? I mean we co-exist with the US in the real world without going to war. " I guess it is as bad as being an enemy. This arrived with the letter or annoyance from the Senate. I guess I'll have to try harder next time. Maybe if I hadn't lost a single troop they would have sent me a message asking for peace... In the mean time there are only about 30 troops left in Messena as his two generals managed to outrun my pursuit so I lay seige to the city in the hopes of taking it before they can land any more troops on the island. And so begins the road to Rome... -
It looks like Super Mario is retiring! TSN story

As we speak my troops are burying explosive charges under the island. Within the hour the island shall be no more and no one will be able to claim it. Or at least that's what should be done. <_<

51 seats by my count at the moment. That's down three seats from the last election.

I've got it working now! I'll keep you guys updated on my progress. -
Because Return to Windspear still hasn't come out yet.

I don't think things will change all that much. The conservatives have a smaller minority than the liberals had. And your link is dead. "

Hey! I'm not old yet and I've heard the term. Haven't actually heard anyone use it in real life though.

Leafs player is down right now on the ice. Missed his check and slammed face first into the board. Not sure who it was though.

I just found the problem. I have to either re-install or find a new descr_strat.txt file before I can play. -

Well, after reinstalling the game and starting up the prologue long enough to be able to play the imperial campaign I forgot to patch the game. After patching the game I can no longer play the imperial campaign as it won't start. -

As long as you complete a campaign at all even a short one you can play the unlocked factions. I need to reinstall before I can go through as the romans. The stupid mod decided to boot me back to the menu even when choosing the romans. -

Let me know what your strategy was and how it worked out. I'd suggest you do Very Hard on campaign difficuty and Hard on battle difficulty. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I will do that. Once I get the damn thing running. I installed one of the play all factions mods so that I wouldn't have to run through a roman game first but now I can't play any of them because when I click start the game it boots me right back to the single player menu. The only thing I can think of beyond re-installing would be to get a save game from someone who just started a game, but none of my friends have it installed at the moment. Looks like I'll have to spend another hour installing it. <_< -

The Northwest has everyone except Minnesota over .500 if you're counting overtime losses as well. One more win from them and they are at .500

What was so difficult about winning wars if you could win the battles? -
Isn't there something wrong in that my Progress Quest character's highest stat is Wisdom with Intelligence only one point behind? Did I mention he is a Demicanadian Bastard Lunatic?

I envy you. The only games that I have that I can stand to play through more than once are my strategy games. Those I can play through as may times as I want while any other game I have can only hold my interest for a set ammount of time after I first play them. I can usually make it through maybe twice on that first initial rush when playing a game but after that I just lose interest in it and can't seem to get back into it. I think the only non strategy game that I have that I can play more than once is the Thief series. Depends on the movie. I think there is only one that I can watch over and over. I've watched the Transformers movie well over 200 times since I bought it. I watched it six times straight in the first day alone. The Bourne Identity is my second most watched movie at around 25 times. For most movies it depends on where I'm watching them. If I'm watching them in the same room as my computer is in I can't seem to stay focused on the movie. I'll come on these forums while the movie is on and listen to it in the background while I read/watch it's reflection on my monitor screen. "

Have you never heard that phrase being used in that context before?

How is BI? I've been meaning to pick it up, but I've been really busy lately with exam prep and just haven't had the time to really get into many games. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm really into it. Religon plays a bigger role. A lot of the tactics that worked against the Gauls and Germainia do not work against the Goths and Huns. The Western Empire camaign is tough and there are morale problems with the units. It feels like you are trying to save a dying civilization. One thing is certain, you will not have to go looking for a fight if you are playing the West, it will come to you. If you have $30 US to blow, you will not regret getting it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sounds good to me. I've been in the mood for a good strategy game for a while now. I'll probably pick this up to hold me over till next month when a slew of games will be coming out. -
