I just found out that my job doesn't let me wear shorts to work. It's fricking 40
  2. For me, Rome is definetly better than Shogun. Comparing it to Medieval, I'll just say that they're different. Rome is more arcadey I guess. Of course, with the mods (which I haven't played) all that is probably different.
  3. I'm not asking for that! It's just that in this case for all we know, everything that is nowadays considered Socratic could in fact be entirely the work of Plato. And, of course if this was the case Plato should be the one to get all the respect. Oh, and by the way if you ask me Plato is much more than just a footnote to Socrates his work in metaphysics and politics appears to be completely beyond anything Socrates said on those subjects. P.S.: I could be wrong, but of Plato's works involving Socrates I think the only one that is considered more or less historical is the Apology. Edit: Actually, after thinking about it, to me, Socratic Thought doesn't seem to be all that important in philosophy. Pretty much everything that has been done in philosophy seems to have gone above and beyond anything Socrates might have done, and furthermore I think he' wouldn't be able to make head or tails out of anything that has been done in philosophy, at least since St. Augustine. Plus, he seems to have been a smug bastard. :D Also, the only thing that has really truly impressed me about Socrates is the bits in the Apology that are startingly similar to Christ's Sermon on the Mount.
  4. That would be true if Socrates had actually written anything. To this day, historians and philosophers still don't know which parts of Plato's writings involving Socrates should be considered historical accounts and what was actually Plato just using Socrates' persona to expound his own philosophical views.
  5. Grosse Pointe Blank It's still awesome. John Cusack is, as usual, great, and his sister is always very funny.
  6. Los Fabulosos Cadillacs - El Matador
  7. The Thing. One of the best movie to game adaptations ever.
  8. Yes, they were. Well, Dragon Quest was as Yuji Hori said so himself. Final Fantasy, on the other hand was actually a DQ clone.
  9. Sorry, but I think that bit that I highlighted falls within the "stupid arguments" category. =]" You see, you don't have to see the extra dimensions to prove String theory true; all you have to do is find some sort of indirect evidence of the theory. For example, if the theory were to predict that a new particle exists and shows up when certain conditions are met, all you'd have to do is create an environment where those conditions happen, and soon you'd be able to prove that String theory is true (in a way). Actually, this reminds me that Comte in the 19th century said that we would never discover what stars were made of because we would never be able to reach them. Well, at about the same time a physicist was doing just that through spectroscopy.

And this, folks, is an example of what vegemite can do to your brain. :D
  11. Tell your friend that the first Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy games were dumbed down Ultima clones. Still are, if you ask me.
  12. It's strategy, and the battles are real time. I'd say the battle part of the game is more of an RTS game than your garden variety RTSes. Edit: Does Medieval 2 use HDR? The trailer gave me that impression.
  13. Looks like I made a few people here a little bit happier! ^_^ Yay! )
  14. I figure this isn't worth a whole new thread so I'll post it here. http://imdb.com/name/nm1987896/ http://imdb.com/name/nm1987896/ According to IMDB these two ladies are voice actors in NWN2. One voices a character named Qara, the other lends her voice to someone named Neeshka.
  15. That doesn't prove anything. It's true that an object in 3d space can't rotate around anything but a point or a line, but that wouldn't be true in 4d space. In fact, it would be easy to generalize, for example, Newtonian mechanics for 4D space and in such a space it would be possible to revolve something around a 3D object. Also you seem to be misunderstanding the term "theoretical". It doesn't mean that something is not true but that something hasn't been proven yet. And this is essential to science, because all scientific studies are essentially inductive. As such, in science you can never say something is true or false, you can only say current evidence indicates something is true (or not).
  16. What you've seen isn't a model of a hypercube, it's the model of the 3d shadow of a hypercube. It's the same thing as the shadow of a regular cube on a two dimensional surface (this would be a square within a square). Anyway, that is one of two 3D representations of a hypercube. The other representation is, of course the tesseract, which is an unfolded hypercube. Edit: Here's what meta was talking about And a tesseract
  17. To the best of my knowledge, the only requirement for a dimension to be called such is that it has to be orthogonal to all other dimensions. What this means in practical terms is that the axis that represents this dimension is perpendicular to all the axes of the other dimensions. As an example, in 3d space the z-axis is perpendicular to both the x-axis and y-axis. As for the bit about the extra dimensions being curled up, imagine a sheet of paper that can be rolled up in a cylinder. Now, theoretically if you were to roll it tightly enough, it's radius would be so small that the only thing you'd be able to see would be a one dimensional line. So the "extra" dimension would still be there, but you wouldn't be able see it.
  18. A Tale Of Two Sisters. It's a scary, intelligent thriller. Just see it.
  19. Hey, what is this registering crap??
  20. Yes, string theory is so far completely theoretical. In fact that's one of the more unusual things about it. Usually a theory is created to explain some sort of new phenomenom that isn't explained by current theories. However, in this case the theory was arrived at by accident and now people are actually trying to find some sort of observable event that is only explained by it so that they can test the theory. By the way, General Relativity was just mathematical masturbation, too. :D @Moose: Where did you see that?
  21. Well, electricity was thought to be pretty useless at the time Faraday did his experiments and nowadays our whole lives depend on it. The same could be said about relativity and quantum physics as well.
  22. I don't know about this site, but string theory is a serious and quite interesting scientific theory. It's really just an attempt at unifying the Standard Model (quantum mechanics and electromagnetism) with Relativity. This unification has become a very important goal in theoretical physics in recent years. So this business about extra dimensions isn't really the main point of string theory. What happened was that many years ago physicists discovered that uniting different forces becomes a lot easier when you add more dimensions (The flatlanders analogy explains how this happens fairly well (Flatland)). So the exrta dimensions weren't made up just for the hell of it, they're actually a requirement of string theory, and other theories before it. Finally, I should point out that String Theory is, so far, just speculation. What is important about it is that it appears to be self consistent, something other unification theories before it weren't able to achieve. Now, the next step in string research is finding experimental corroboration for the theory. If that happens, it will be one of the greatest discoveries in physics of all time. Other theories: Kaluza-Klein Theory. (the beginning) GUTs (Grand Unification Thories) Supergravity Have fun! :D

Portugal play like crap against everyone and still manage to win. Afterwards they play well against France and they lose. This sucks.
