Seems its like this, based on playing Reinhart+Kat currently, and Anjali+Lucas in demo, all on Hardcore. Lucas: Str: Good Tank. Normal attacks hits hard and staggers opponents a bit. Weak: No ranged attack whatsoever lol. Anjali: Str: Good support abilties. Melee has good reach. Weak: Melee attacks leave her vulnerable. Katrina: Str: High DPS. A lot of debuff abilities. Great vs Boss sniping. Weak: Few AoE attacks. Focus charge is very slow. Rifle attack is very slow. Reinhart: Str: AoE attacks are good and can debuff whole groups. Got lots of tricks. Weak: He has weak defence, so his melee needs some setup. Ranged stance needs some setup to attack effectively. Overall, its nice to see a healthy difference between characters. And the flexibility of building your character to take advantage of their strengths or minimizing their weaknesses.

My First Impressions(Reinhart/Kat Hard)

Area of Effect. Basically, attacks that hit multiple enemies. -
I don't like the loot collecting.

I don't think that matters, since all the inventories are shared (as far as I understand). Yup, it doesn't matter, since all inventory is shared.... -
My First Impressions(Reinhart/Kat Hard)

Well, I'm playing Kat with my bro playing Reinhart. In hardcore, we really had to work together or we would be swamped during the big fights. I'd say it'll be much harder with the AI since it just does random things rather than work with you. That said, you could try to work with the AI. Say you take AI and equip him as a tank, then put down some traps on him while he is standing around facing the enemies. -

Hmm, i gotta try that when I get home from work later.... -

Its the same with consoles. But yeah, I don't really like it too. I don't see why you don't want to pick loot up anyway, it should be auto pickup. -
My First Impressions(Reinhart/Kat Hard)
glenn3e replied to glenn3e's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Yeah I think Blocking is useless for him. Especially for Kat since she's more into rolling around and do oppurtunity shots. I think Blocking is only useful for Lucas, if you have Anjali's circle of healing under him and he can tank effectively. However, dodging has its weaknesses. I'm in the mansion, and i'm facing enemies who use homing ranged attacks that hit you even if you roll to avoid it. I think you have to block those.... -
My First Impressions(Reinhart/Kat Hard)

Hmm, what are you speccing him as? My bro plays Reinhart while I'm Kat, and he dies all the time in HC. I'd say his ranged stance is better, and it charges focus pretty fast. He's melee stance seems kind of lacking to me, though the lightning bolt is kind of nice in a pinch. -
I'd put Reinhard/Kat hardcore but then the thread title would start to sound like something else. But anyways, did some couch coop with my bro, Maining Reinhart and Kat as the second. So far, I'd say the playstyle of Rein is totally different from Kat. Rein requires a lot of setup but when he gets into the right range, his range stance can really tear into the enemy if you spec it well. Kat, on the other hand doesn't have many AoE abilities, so she's built as DPS to take enemies one at the time. She does have high survivability though, since I keep rolling her here and there rather than blocking. We specced our characters to focus on stunning and slowing enemies, as in Hardcore you can't really take much hits. We did have to resurrect each other a few times, especially during Boss battles, but otherall things were manageable. Enemies respawn outdoors, so you could do some farming if you need some better gear if things get too hard. There's a quite few sidequests in this game, and one of the interesting things is trying to find Deeds. We got a deed just by voting for the same options in conversations a few times. Another we got by talking to a "door". Reinhart had real funny comments on that one. I'm wondering what the other characters have to say in that situation.... If anyone got any questions, I'll answer. I'm playing this on my PS3, so no control issues.

If you're in Australia taht price will be 79.99AUD, not USD, most likely. Steam region-locks the prices so you'll probably get the 80$ price for DS3 too. I recommend game.co.uk, 27 quid (50-5550AUD roughly); I'm in New Zealand and I'll be able to download it tomorrow morning. I'm sure there are similar deals out there. Never ever trust release dates or predictions by any of the brick and mortar stores in New Zealand. I don't know whether it's their own incompetence or the disadvantages of being such a small and remote market, but unless it's Call of Duty or something, games will never, EVER come on time. Stopped buying anything from them 5 years ago but every time I check it's the same - their release dates are always wrong, they never tell you anything until you ask them, and then they dont' know anything. Useless. Funny that I live in Asia and the release date we are getting is following the NZ date. Also, the PS3 copy I'm getting is R2(Europe). Guess that we got the NZ version.

Not exactly a useful early release though. Not like you can DO anything with it at the moment Not in a couple of hours . That's early by 5 days, which is early enough. Far enough to finish the game before the official release.

My supplier just called me and said my preorder is in. I'm going to collect it after work later. Talk about an early release LOL

I guess I'm with sorophx. Due to the same reasons, NV was way better than FO3 . Heck, I finished the main quest in FO3 ACCIDENTALLY lol. And it didn't make sense. And I didn't have much options other than being shoehorn along a linear storyline. In NV, when I reached the branching portion of the main quest, I can choose sides. And then make more choices on who I decide to antagonized and ally with. Also, most quests help a particular faction and such. And no more subway mazes. And my companions are actually useful. And have some sort of storyline. It just..... feels more Fallout-like where you can influence the fate of the various factions/towns you encounter.

Hmm, according to my supplier, the shipment is in today or tomorrow. Since i preordered it, he's gonna let me have it early. Can't wait to try it out :-D

I don't think it's very proper to mention Champions of Norath and DS3 in the same light. The Norath game are so much more feature rich than this title it really IS NOT FUNNY. PS2 games that are WAY more feature rich than this title. DS3 should be a half-price release. I'll wait until its $30 regardless. Its a good comparison. This game is an update over the Champions of Norrath gameplay and I like it. Only thing missing is a new game plus difficulty with carry over. Also, at least this game requires some strategy with stances while Champions and Dark Alliance is all just hack and spam your best skill.

Question on Co-Op Character Progress
glenn3e replied to Mordliss's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Oh so, in essence my fiancee and I could play through the entire story while keeping both of our characters built/equipped the way we save them at... So we could both enjoy the story mode with "Our" characters together, we just could never bring them into another game? If thats the case, then thats not that big of a deal. PS: How sure of this are you? Are you almost 100% sure that she would retain her abilities/items from the save that the Host saves? Just so you know, control of your other character when your co-op buddy isn't in goes to you(The AI takes over but you can do the equipping and levelupping) . So you can progress the storyline without her and she can come back with a souped up character as you progress. -
You can actually see that yourselves. There were a few doors such as the start of the area after the burning mansion that was closed off due to it being the demo. It even says so if you click on it. The game might not be that linear after all, since a lot of optional stuff in the demo looked to be blocked off on purpose.
-
That's a good question... I don't know. To be honest, you can't judge how successful something will be by people's reactions on the internet (reviewers included). Where the real evidence will lay will be in the sales figures when they are released. I think if they marketted the game for what it is, (a modern version of Champions of Norrath and BG Dark Alliance with improvements) rather than a sequel from a lore standpoint, it would have less de-criers and fanrage. It is even optimized for the console, which those other games came from and arguably where the fanbase is for those gametypes.

Good Game, Bad Dungeon Siege

I'd take Obsidian's interpretation over the originals any day. Screw the lore or whatever. -

Yup, tried it all in the demo. I'm not sure if its different in online, but the offline co-op on consoles follow this method which is awesome, just like Champions of Norrath and their like. If you do play with strangers/morons, you can just give them a sharp whack on the side of the head since they probably will be sitting beside you. One further funny thing.... In conversations with NPCs, the non-main player can actually "VOTE" on what to say. A little icon will show on the conversation menu. I assume if more than 2 players are present, the voting system actually goes into effect. Else, in 2 player co-op, the main player's vote always takes precedence.
