  1. I'm just glad that Beth finally made people look like actual people this time around.

Just you wait for the happy/angry faces.

I have a gut feeling, those will still look priceless. :ermm:

Ha ha, yeah. Seeing an NPC's face go from happy to angry during the speech mini-game was hilarious. Probably unintentional, heh.

Speaking of which, I hope Skyrim doesn't bring back the speech mini-game from Oblivion in any shape or form. Terrible design decision.

  2. It's a bit unrealistic to expect Witcher 2 graphics in an open-world game, like those guys are doing.

They look more than good enough for what Bethie wants to do, definitely.

Actually, they look much better than they need to be.

  3. I'm around page 750 of my 900 page book. Christ GRRM, how can you write so much and yet write so little?

GRRM's own words on the matter...

"The architects plan everything ahead of time, like an architect building a house. They know how many rooms are going to be in the house, what kind of roof they're going to have, where the wires are going to run, what kind of plumbing there's going to be. They have the whole thing designed and blueprinted out before they even nail the first board up. The gardeners dig a hole, drop in a seed and water it. They kind of know what seed it is, they know if planted a fantasy seed or mystery seed or whatever. But as the plant comes up and they water it, they don't know how many branches it's going to have, they find out as it grows. And I'm much more a gardener than an architect."

    Lack of focus, indeed.

  4. There's some cool stuff coming up, but this really is AFFC part 2 and not the next book that many people were probably hoping for.

It really is. Dany, Tyrion, and Jon are supposed to be the highlights of the novel but of the three, Jon's chapters were by far the most interesting. Dany and Tyrion felt a lot like Brienne's chapters in AFfC...lots of traveling, infodumping, and not a lot of progress.

It's the minor character POVs where ADWD really shines, I think. Davos and "Reek" had really good chapters.

  5. I cant believe someone would comb throught six years of search history just to reply to this.

Purkake linked this thread more than once in the Books thread.

I remember seeing this site a while back. Looks like it needs to be updated. When the release date was finally announced, this popped up. It's going to be another long wait, heh.

  6. I never thought it was possible but ADWD is finally coming July 12. Unfortunately, some people already finished it and spoilers have been popping up everywhere, even on sites unrelated to ASOIAF.

I got spoiled and from the looks of it, it looks like what I read was true.

  7. Just beat it with an in-game time of 13 hours whereas Steam says 19 hours played (wtf?). Great game. :)

Played as Lucas with Anjali on Normal difficulty and didn't run into too much trouble during my playthrough except for the boss fight (

    Dapper Old Gent

) in Stonebridge. I can't wait to dive in again as Katarina. Hopefully the game does well enough to warrant DLC and an expansion or two.

Minus the one bug that I encountered in the Heroes Crypt and Gunderic Manor (most likely a hardware issue on my end), I didn't get one bug. DS3 is definitely a solid, polished Obsidian game.

Kudos to the DS3 team! :sorcerer:

  8. That's because the PR firm didn't pay as much for them to praise DS3 as the PR firm for DA2 paid them. Next time the PR firm will cut them out (bad idea) or pay higher (like EA did for DA2).

I'm still reeling over The Escapist's review of DA2.

A pinnacle of role-playing games with well-designed mechanics and excellent story-telling, Dragon Age II is what videogames are meant to be.

    *snort*

  9. Yeah they screwed the pooch right out the gate didn't they? I think that is his point. IMO they shouldn't even have named it Dungeon Siege period. I'm playing the DS LoA right now and it's great. Nothing like DS3 at all. And aren't reboots supposed to reflect the original in some ways? I mean it's NOTHING like it.

I hate to be that guy, but:

All joking aside, I believe Obsidian wanted DS3 to be a spin-off title but Square-Enix pressed them to go with DS3. Meh.

  10. Another Kevin Vanord review? Bleh.

I've been playing the Dungeon Siege series since it was released and Dungeon Siege 3 felt like I was spat at as a hardcore fan. In my opinion a game like this should not be designed for consoles, that is what turned me off from Dragon Age 2. The cinematic cut scenes felt very out of place and the facial expressions are... off-putting. Multiplayer is extremely awkward, it caused a nasty headache after only five minutes of attempting to play. The female characters seem a bit "overdeveloped" for my tastes, but I guess you have to appeal to new male players some way, especially if you want to pull new players from games like Call of Duty or Halo. I do not like how the combat system felt "dumbed down", I liked being able to use multiple skills/spells tactically.

What I miss most from Dungeon Siege and Dungeon Siege 2 is the Character Customization and the open feeling of the environments. I'd rather not be playing a Dragon Age 2 clone. I've discussed the game with several friends and they all feel the same way.

On a less negative note, I'm curious to who did the music, it does not sound like Soule (who did the music for DS, DS2, and Guild Wars).

See, I don't get how people are claiming DS3's combat system is dumbed down. I really don't. In DS1, there were no skills or abilities. Combat was purely an auto-attack affair regardless if you were melee, ranged, or combat/nature magic. You could let the game play itself. So no, I'm really not seeing how DS3 is dumbed down compared to its predecessor.

And honestly, I like the direction Obsidian has taken with DS3. If I wanted to play Diablo, I'd play Diablo.
