  1. Ha, I still have mine. I've got a bunch of old games still but the highlights are all three Mario games, all three Ninja Turtles games, Final Fantasy (that was hard to find), Battletoads, Zelda...

Oh, and screw Battletoads. That game is impossible.

  2. Anyone else completely love the
The fact that it's different for each episode is pretty cool. Can't wait to see the Eyrie.

I thought it was a clever way of establishing the lay of the land, I didn't have much trouble keeping track of the locations mentioned simply because of that, very slick.

Indeed. I'm also surprised at the little details they've added. For those familiar with the books:

-At :00 the metal band shows a dragon and a volcano, which depicts the Doom of Valyria

-At :04 it shows the Targaryens conquering Westeros

-At :44 you can see the three-headed dragon fighting off a wolf, a stag and a lion. Basically shows the Stark/Baratheon/Lannister rebellion against House Targaryen

-At 1:24 can't really tell...looks like House Baratheon is crowned king?

  3. Apparently the game will support only 16:9 aspect ratio.

Other resolutions will get black bars.

Anyone else find it hilarious that after all the emphasis CDP placed on graphics and supporting the PC platform they messed up something so simple?

They've updated their FAQ. It says the game supports 16:9, 16:10, and 4:3.

  4. For those that prefer Youtube, I've uploaded them to my channel here. Thanks for posting my videos on the PA forums, C2B.

Edit: Kudos to the artist that did the effects for Reinhart's attacks. The teal lightning looks great. But I really love the whole black negative energy attack that he does. The look and animation reminds me of paint brush strokes. Looks very cool.

  5. A VERY favorable preview from Destructoid. There are some minor spoilers about the beginning of the game. A few snippets:

If you were one of those people that complained about Game X and said "I'll wait for Witcher 2 instead," then congratulations: you were right.

This makes me so giddy. HYPE!

Instead of having a tiresome chain of events explained to you, the game expects you to figure out what exactly is going on by just dealing with present events and by paying attention to key characters that shed light on the situation at hand. It's a refreshing take on the old narrative structure we've grown accustomed to in RPGs, for sure.

Overall, my 7 hours or so with The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings left me very impressed. Again, I didn't play The Witcher as much as I would've liked, but the difference between the two games feels like the difference between Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. Everything from the gameplay to the consistently high quality of cutscenes and the voice acting just feels like a labor of love by CD Projekt RED.

I looked back on my experience with Dragon Age II afterwards, and BioWare's fantasy RPG now feels like it's in almost every way a mere toddler in the shadow of The Witcher 2. That's not to say DA II sucked, but a single village in The Witcher 2 already has more personality than all of Kirkwall. Moreover, the politics now run deep without treating you like a child for once. Characters feel human and treat you like an adult, the player is expected to deal with temporal jumps in narrative to keep up with the story, choices actually carry weight, and oh my god the breast textures!

  6. Currently replaying Arcanum for the 4th or 5th time as a melee technologist. Pretty fun so far. Love using grenades too.

Man, I would kill for an Arcanum sequel. Anyone know who owns the IP?

    Sierra/Activision

    That's...incredibly disappointing.

Call of Arcanum, a steampunk first person shooter comes into my mind. :>

Maybe no sequel is better after all. BLOODY SCREEN. SO REAL.

  7. So far it looks like no luck for Shani. Also "potentially NFSW" ? Man I want your job :p

    :-

    Anyway, three new videos.

First up is this one featuring lots and lots of rolling. As someone on GAF said, is this the dev responsible for the infamous rolling video? Really good quality, by the way.

Lastly, the first ten minutes of the game here.

Credits to slimgrin and hangmans tree at BSN for the previous two videos.

What if you picked Shani in TW1?

I think the devs confirmed that Shani won't be appearing in TW2, unfortunately. What a shame. Hopefully they'll tell us how that choice will be shown in-game during the conference next week.

  8. Gamestar preview (German)

They played the prologue and are very positive about it. It doesn't play like an RPG in the first hour as the prologue introduces everything bit by bit, but they say CDProjekt put a lot of attention to detail, as the world feels very lively and there's a lot going on.

Ahhh, beat me to it. There are some great screenshots in the article. Really gives the game a sense of scale..

  9. So Polygamia.pl got a hands-on for the game and blogged about their experience.

    Google Translate

The article has a bunch of screenshots (low-res, unfortunately) and I've picked out the more interesting ones (medium quality):

    And two short videos:

    and
    .

    Thoughts:

    -Awesome menu, awesome music.

-Playing TW2 on a laptop? Sacrilege.

-Really liking the skill trees. I know there's Alchemy, Magic and Swordsman. What's the fourth one?

-Conversation skills! Wonder why DA2 didn't have them. :ermm:

  10. To me the books are great the first time, but then you look back on them and say "Wait... exactly how much book did he use to move the plot three inches?"

And Erikson is awesome... not only for his own books but also for the books he likes (He's a fan of Glenn Cook and vis versa)

Well, that was only an issue with A Feast For Crows, right? Man, that book was a drag. The only saving grace was Jaime, Victarion and Asha, IMHO. For the first three books though, I felt that he dealt with the plot pretty well, especially with A Storm of Swords.

Yeah, you can tell that Erikson's been heavily influenced by Glen Cook. Bridgeburners = Black Company. Supposedly Cook's writing two more books for The Black Company although there's no info about them other than their titles: A Pitiless Rain and A Port of Shadows.

  11. Thought this was funny.

    Rainn.jpg

Rainn Wilson is made for this throne.

    And from his Twitter

If you haven't read 'A Game of Thrones' you r an idiot of the highest order. Amazing series. All-consuming. #Winterfell

@virumor: Malazan's pretty great. I'm currently reading Deadhouse Gates and apart from some minor confusions, it's a good read. I just wish Tor would finish reprinting the entire series with the new cover art.
