  1. Arcanum still. Pretty sure I have no idea what I'm doing, but I must say I like Tarant.

Hey, if you can get past the Black Mountain mines without dying of boredom you deserve a medal. Hope you play as a mage, though.

Nope, gunfighter. And I have the sense I'm boned.

Yeah, if you haven't played the game before and are without the benefit of replay meta-knowledge, chances are extraordinarily good that you're boned.

For all its charms as a setting, Arcanum had such a ****ty RPG rules system that I can't recommend it to anyone. It's almost as if they went out of their way to try to make roughly 70% of the adequate-sounding character builds into "gotchas" that produced seriously underpowered characters.

Having Dog makes BMM so much easier. I can't imagine going through that place without him, especially with a gun character.

I'm going through IWD+HOW+TotL again but this time on Insanity/Heart of Fury mode with a level 1 party (Fighter/Thief, Paladin, Cleric/Ranger, Fighter, Mage, and Druid). It's...very difficult.

  2. Right now I'm finishing up the Demon Campaign in Disciples 3:Renaissance, and playing through an IronMan game of TOEE.

**Tomorrow I might be playing Disciples 3:Resurrection, but I will finish the first D3 before launching off into a serious game in the sequel.

How is D3? I'm playing Disciples 2 right now (really enjoying it) and wondering if I should pick up the sequel.

  3. I just got Disciples 2 Gold and am enjoying it quite a bit.

Thoughts so far: combat's a little monotonous, the setting is interesting, and the dark/Gothic artstyle really makes it stand out. I hear HOMM 3 is even better so I'll probably jump into that after I finish the game.

What campaign (race) are you playing?

Took me a while to realise that you needed to play more than one race from start to end to get the "big picture" of what took place and how each side have their own biased views of it.

I'm playing the Dark Prophecy campaign (Empire).

  4. I just got Disciples 2 Gold and am enjoying it quite a bit.

  5. Daggerfall looks quite intriguing.

Is Daggerfall better than Morrowind? Because I loved Morrowind.

Not at all. It's by far Bethesda's most ambitious title, but it's also their second worst. It's broken and empty, simply put.

Oh. That's kind of disappointing. Back to MW, I guess.

  6. Is this the character from those live action shorts with Felicia Day?

Yeah. The web series they're making centers around Day's character. I guess the DLC is for continuity and promotional purposes.

    EDIT: Beaten to it.

Of course, fans immediately began asking if she was a romantic interest.

  7. Icewind Dale 2 for me. For the most part, it seems like a lot of the feats are useless (although casters seem to be much better off).

I loved the first game to bits but I've had trouble finishing IWD2. I've done multiple playthroughs and I always end up at the part after the Yuan-ti temple where you have to go to the Dragon's Eye. I get massive fatigue at that point and can't finish the game. I'm determined to finish it though so hopefully this playthrough is the one.

  8. That's the point. It's not about recreating the book experience, they'd just make use of the setting to make an open-world game, like Cyanide is now using the setting to make a strategy game.

There has been a FPS made in the Wheel of Time setting, and action games set in Middle-Earth. Not to mention there's tons of adventure games using sci-fi/fantasy settings from books, e.g. Discworld, Shannara, Companions of Xanth, Death Gate, etc. It's not like it hasn't been done before.

I figure that an open-world game set in Westeros could work if it was kind of like New Vegas with the Great Houses instead of factions.

besides which, what really kills martin's world for gaming is lack o' magic and exotic races. tell fans o' the genre that they cannot play anime-inspired dark elves with bloated bosoms and donkey ears? sacrilege!

    :)

  9. I finished Dance of Dragons. Overall it was good but it does seem to bog down a little.

If it was any other writer I'd say there was no way they would catually kill Jon Snow off after devoting about 30% of the pages in four books to him but you never know. I guess we'll find out in 2016.

I'm calling it now: Jon gets resurrected by Melisandre and/or becomes Azor Ahai. GRRM did an interview about ADWD and he gets asked why he killed off Jon. From his response, I think we'll be seeing Jon pretty soon.

    Regarding Stannis...

From his response, I'm pretty certain that Ramsay's letter is a lie and Stannis and his army are alive. Since Theon can confirm that they have a fake Arya, perhaps they're marching on the Dreadfort instead?

Was it just me or was Martin channeling Shakespere a little in Jon's last chapter. Just a little like Julius Ceaser.

    Et tu, Bowen?

  10. I'm still working on Deus Ex. Really good game. Decided to ditch pistols and instead went with rifles. Sniping with my modded sawed-off shotgun and sneaking on enemies with my Dragon Tooth sword is way too much fun.

I just killed Gunther (kinda felt bad for him) and saw the infamous "A BOMB!" scene. I'm at Vandenberg. How much more do I have left?
