  1. really. so saddam never violated his treaty? gimme a break. let's cut the hyperbole. saddam violated the treaty signed in the first gulf war, period. that's an act of war, and we responded. just because your ideology doesn't like that doesn't change the situation. taks
  2. IWDII. i had forgotten how annoying some of the battles are. if you're not paying attention, rogues and wizards drop off quickly. taks
  3. not so much, no. ^rostere: i don't think anyone is really arguing the reasons this guy threw shoes at bush, just that it a) was a stupid idea and b) resulted in a response that only the ideologues would argue shouldn't be expected. it gets a little out of hand (the rhetoric, that is) when people start trying to equate his treatment with some deeper meaning. bottom line, the guy assaulted the president. he should be happy he's alive. taks
  4. yeah, i just did motb with a f(x)/wm(7)/dd(10) and it was a cakewalk. i had safiya, kaelyn, and gann, btw. i've heard using pure wizard class characters is harder in the beginning (okku fight in particular), but it gets a lot easier once the game progresses. taks
  5. i liked incredible hulk and han<male member>. the latter, however, was a bit choppy and definitely difficult to follow when buzzed and tired. taks
  6. i'm trying to solve an antenna positioning problem. simple on the surface, but an evil lurks underneath. conversions between coordinate systems, poorly documented reporting mechanisms (for current pointing), and a lack of experience solving these sorts of problems (control theory) have my head swimming. taks
  7. those are simply the scary two that always come to my mind. half the world would currently qualify, particularly russia now. taks
  8. i think his point was more along the lines of "he who wields the might" referring to how we would define "right" were the might in the hands of another, less benign, entity such as the former soviet union or hitler's third reich. hmmm... nope. taks
  9. i'm none too fond of him, either, and his socialist ways of dealing with the current recession have me really ticked off. if i were to look for a satan* in the world of politics, i wouldn't be looking for someone half of everyone hated. satan's gonna come across a lot more charismatic and likable than bush has ever been. i'm not even sure conservatives really like bush, they just disliked kerry and gore more. taks *not that i really believe in a biblical/religious satan.
  10. yes, we'd all be saying either "hail, comrade" or "seig heil" a lot more often. taks
  11. exactly. that's why the reasoned response from us is "this guy is still alive? wow!" if anyone thinks that things would have been different for any other leader in the world they are truly blinded by their ideology. it just ain't so. it's just that it is bush, and the media loves him so, and we get knee-jerk reactions from all the ideologues that simply hate bush. taks
  12. i fully know your meaning. like i said, look up the word hyperbole and the phrase argumentum ad ignorantium. the initial basis for your hyperbolic complaint isn't even true, it was the iraqi guards that took the guy down and everything that happened happened right there, not after the fact. you didn't even bother to fact check before making your nonsense claims. i doubt you can ever wake up, quite frankly. i guess ignorance is bliss, however. taks
  13. that's a good one. i'm also curious how all those guys that placed the bombs went unnoticed for the several weeks it took. taks
  14. it does. it's hidden. taking care of them is added strain, too. just make sure to reach out to someone on occasion. perhaps with a drink or ten. good luck either way. taks
  15. so in other words, morgoth really is speaking from a position of ignorance. hardly a surprise. so morgoth, you have a new word and a new phrase to look up: hyperbole and argumentum ad ignorantium. the secret service was there, btw. any activities involving the POTUS and they're coordinating overall security. taks
  16. that's what you don't get, morgoth. it has nothing to do with "the US is always right." bush is a world leader and he got assaulted. the mere fact that this guy didn't get killed is amazing. do you think anything would have been different if it were sarkozy or putin? how about chavez? hell no. this has nothing to do with a "digression of her own democratic values and views." get real man. the guy committed a crime against the POTUS. the response was completely justified. this nothing to do with policy no matter how hard you whine to the contrary. the idiot broke the law against the worst possible person to break the law. you are incapable of making any legitimate argument without hyperbole, aren't you? hardly a surprise. what a joke. your "opinion" is the one that i have to fight to protect and preserve, in spite of the fact that it is rooted in nonsense and a complete disregard for rational thought. taks
  17. are you capable of rational thought? the guy has a dozen or more secret service agents surrounding him at all times. someone assaults him and you don't expect this guy to get beat up? and crippled? give me a break and drop the freaking hyperbole. no, the media pretends, and you repeat. please, morgoth, hyperbolic arguments make you look, well, like the ideologue i accuse you of being. are you capable of your own thoughts? doesn't work that way either. at least you used the word correctly this time. nonsense. get a clue. the way the secret service treats people that threaten the life of the president hasn't "become the norm," it has always been the norm. there's no way to know a priori if this idiot was going to do more than simply lob a shoe or two, and the fact that he kept fighting, even after being taken down, is indicative of someone that intended to do harm. wow. taks
  18. what kind of field experience do you have, GD? ^walsh: sorry 'bout your mom. not sure what i would do if my mother had cancer. my dad's illness (not cancer) put a terrible strain on my family and me. over under has mom living longer than me, however. she's going to be 67 on xmas day and recently told me that she never intends to retire. taks
  19. he is flameworthy, for sure. taks
  20. no, but it wouldn't surprise me either way. you can't assault the leader of a major country and expect to not get roughed up. wow. do you know how to post without hyperbole? besides the fact that bush didn't "legitimate" torture (the word would actually be legitimize), what the secret service does to protect him is hardly his mandate. again, there is no connection or hypocrisy in his words about freedom, he was just assaulted. get it now? of course not, you are of the same unthinking ideology... taks
  21. um, this guy gets taken down for assaulting the president of the US and somehow the president talking about freedom is connected? no, people with brains use legitimate sarcasm and irony. nice try, however. now this, i agree with. btw, rosbjerg, while you're up on your high and mighty chair o' judgement, where's your scorn for brdavs comments, eh? not one thing i said was even remotely as insulting as that... c'mon man, you're so good at it. YOU are the arbiter of who gets to voice their opinion, let's see how objective you really are. taks edit: realized a better way to say that. granted, gromnir would tell us it's not really irony, but hey, that's the way we use it now.
  22. one of the leading arguments is that steel cannot melt at the temperatures achieved in the fires in the towers. apparently steel just plods along at full strength all the way up to its melting point the BAM! liquid love. all the so-called "experts" that they show on the 9/11 conspiracy films seem to have an additional "ex" in their title, i.e., "ex-explosives expert." fired for incompetence i suppose. taks
  23. so what does the first comment have to do with the last? oh, yeah, you just don't have a clue. got it. whether you like it or not, bush is the president of the US and threats are taken seriously. get taken down by half a dozen security forces and you're going to be hurt. same would have happened with any other leader of any country. in fact, had this guy done something to one of the middle-eastern leaders, he might not be around anymore. taks
  24. i was including spain. probably should have said "european" instead. i'm not sure what the rest of your rant is and there's no way anything i said can be interpreted as racist. what you have said, however, could easily be interpreted as "moron." taks
  25. particularly given that they x-ray your shoes at the airport these days. taks
