What rumours would that be? It's been reported in wired quite a few months ago that he has the 7 million for this game already? http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2012/07/ultima-forever/ "Garriott’s current company Portalarium is also developing a spiritual successor to his past work called Ultimate RPG/New Britannia. The company said this week that it had secured $7 million from investors to support this and other game projects." So he's already got the money for it. This was obviously planned some time ago to develop the game, to get investors in and then he's put this on KS to get aditional funds and more importantly free advertising. It's not really what KS is about when you have 7 million in the bank from investors for the game and the KS project goal for the game is 1 million. Okay thats a good find, and I agree. Portalarium has indeed raised $7 million dollars. I am not sure why he needs the KS, it is probably because additional funding is required. A pity no one has asked him in the various interviews?

Don't believe rumors Hiro, they will keep you awake at night in a state of profound angst. Rather think of this KS as the only confirmed funding of this game

How much funding do you think Torment: ToN will raise
BruceVC replied to Arcoss's topic in Computer and Console
100,000 quatloos, a video camera, a basketful of cute kittens**, and two year's worth of kitten chow. **puppies or dwarf hamsters can be substituted upon request "a basketful of cute kittens" -
I don't know but as someone who works in the industry I think that Windows 8 is a solid and stable OS, like Windows 7. Now Vista was problematic. We have customers who have deployed Windows 8 to all there users (20k + users) and there have been very few issues. So I'm sure you'll be fine 697221235axzral.jpg Thats funny and relevant

The Nuances of Evil
BruceVC replied to bojohnson82's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
We're only expecting the devs to resolve issues where we as a species haven't resolved yet. Nothing more difficult. Devs? One already said examples weren't welcome and there have been none after....beyond that there is no further issue with the discussion afaik. Some people have been really sheltered and some of the less pleasant details of reality may be shocking. And the answer to the good and evil question is that the worst thing we can possibly do is presume we know it. I find it interesting how you assert that "the worst thing we can possibly do is presume we know [good and evil]", when you present your own account as revelations of objective "reality". Seems legit. Things are what they are, nothing else. We can be wrong but reality does not change and if we pay attention, use reason and avoid assuming what we do not know it's not that hard to find a reasonable course of action based on available information....I see it as practical. This is nowhere remotely close to presuming to know all about what's good and evil.....sometimes actions that people judge as "evil" are needed.....that judgement is where they fail. Circumstances should dictate decisions not some set of silly morals and invisible power figures that you fear because somebody else told you to. I can agree that in RL there may be no real "evil" and many definitions of evil are in fact the depraved actions of mentally unbalanced people or religions trying to characterize people and events but in the context of a fantasy RPG its not that subjective. Red Dragon is evil, bugbear is evil, succubus is evil. Wizard trying to resurrect long dead behemoth is evil. Character party needs to stop this to prevent destruction of known world, this is good. There you go, discussion over -

lol .."weak cold" What do you Swedes do in the evening when its that cold? What would you do in a land of cold and blonde beauties? Find many interesting ways to keep warm and entertained I imagine. Urg, having a nice wind chill kick in here. Actually the flash snow across the country is providing it's random amusement. And watching a long haired german shephard running around the garden in excitement with its fur getting blown all around it has its moment of cheap laughter. Sitting down with a hot cup of tea and sorting out my mothers drug supplies. The joys of fresh pharmacuticals added to the pile by the doctors and trying to remember just what goes where... I suppose you have a point but I guess I am more interested in what social experiences, apart from sex, that people do or rather what people consider are acceptable in those types of extreme cold. Is that your dog that can open the garden gate, I am sure it was you that mentioned it? In Oymyakon, coldest village in the world, people apparently larp Ice Queens. Thats actually a cool costume, I can imagine an Ice Wizard wearing that

http://sota.ultimacodex.com/interview-with-richard-garriott/ Guys here is a detailed interview that should address many questions and concerns. I am feeling a little better about the game after reading this.

! While, I'm not letting Colin off the hook, even after the "apology", I'm going to put more of the blame on J.R.R. Tolkien for bringing them to the forefront semi-pseudo-recent-ish-esque. I'd like to also blame whatever Germanic tribe thought them up in the first place, but I'm not sure exactly where to point the finger. On a more positive note, this also means Ziets. ZIIIIETS! Ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiets

Valid points raised around Controller vs M&KB I'll be using the M&KB as recommended. I have just installed Far Cry and loaded all the necessary updates, I am excited about this game
-
Nice one, good to hear you want to complete it
-
I hate to say this but I am reluctant to pledge to this game yet, I am going to wait till the end of the KS campaign and I'll pledge only if they are short of there objective

Syrian dictatorship continues slaughtering children
BruceVC replied to Humodour's topic in Way Off-Topic
I agree with most of what you are saying, but I have never suggested that the West doesn't use force. And yes I am talking about the degree and focus of force in the last 30-40 years that the West has used to achieve military objectives. Compare this to what Gaddafi and Assad did and you'll see the difference -

Sorry but you need to go back and study the facts around the Libyan conflict, you are misinformed. The siege of Misrata was real and the town would have been reduced to rubble and all occupants killed if the West hadn't intervened http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Misrata Secondly there hasn't been a single historical case I can think of in the last 40 years where any Western country has decided they are going to destroy a whole town with no regard to the inhabitants. In other words indiscriminate killing of all civilians , including women and children. Yes innocents have been killed but this wasn't intentional as steps are almost always taken when the West intervenes to ensure minimal civilian loss. If you dispute this please provide links. In fact I can't recall a single incident in the last 40 years, or longer, where the West's intention was utter destruction of town or city. The military objectives are normally to defeat the enemy forces withing the town. -

All this whining about "bwian fawgo, why didja use towment naaame?", "why didja stawt new ks befowe weleasing anythiiiing", "why you make towment it's DEAD bwiaaaan" - it's incomprehensible to me. I think I'm the most positive guy in here. Okay I apologize, you do seem to be one of excited people

In almost every case mouse and keyboard are far better for FPS games than a controller. True, good point
-

Syrian dictatorship continues slaughtering children
BruceVC replied to Humodour's topic in Way Off-Topic
" the west lied in Libya" No, no my friend thats a spurious assessment of the reality of the Libyan conflict. The West extended its mandate to prevent a humanitarian massacre and catastrophe. And yes they did a little more than they were suppose to but it was completely necessary under the circumstances In order to truly understand my point you need to go back to the early stages of the Libyan conflict. I want you to forget the UN, the West, Russia and China then ask yourself a simple question. Seriously only one question in all these Western interventions is relevant "does a government have a right to use its own army, police and full force to suppress political unrest". I am hoping you say "no" In the Libyan conflict in the beginning the rebels were basically surrounded in Misratah, remember the "Siege of Misratah". Gaddafi would have happily annihilated the entire town and killed every man, women and child. He was a brutal and mentally unbalanced dictator who was never the legitimate ruler of Libya and who would have had no issues with the killing of vast parts of his population. How can anyone with good conscience allow any government that controls its own army to use that army internally within its own borders? The West broke the siege of Misratah and then continued to destroy Gaddafi's air force and tanks but it was the Libyan rebels who did the main fighting throughout the civil war. If you think the civilian causality list is bad in Syrian it would have paled in comparison compared to Libya if the West hadn't intervened. How can you not say that the West did the right thing? So what is more important to you, the prevention of the systematic killing of large segments of a population or that fact the West did more than the UN mandate stipulated? It doesn't matter if you say the West intervened for future Oil or reconstruction contracts, they did still prevent a genocide. And once again Syria is an example of what happens when the West is blocked from helping. Surly you can't think thats a better situation than Libya? -
I agree 100%, this year is shaping up fantastically
