  1. Now that Trump is going to be president he faces some important legal considerations around his own personal business empire There is real and valid criticism about conflict of interest once he is president and how any decision he makes could unduly benefit the vast Trump corporation But this has been discussed numerous times and what Trump needs to do to avoid any future issues, the most likely scenario is that he will hand over full control of all his private sector businesses to his children. He will legally separate himself from receiving any income and having any manageable decision making powers within all his companies This is the fairest outcome. Trump is in an invidious position because I firmly believe he didn't become president to enrich himself, he really wants to " make the USA great again " . Yet it cannot be denied he has created a vast business empire but it seems unreasonable to expect him to just dissolve this empire because he is now president so giving control to his children seems like a good compromise ?
  2. well, trump is wrong 'bout one thing: the theatre has never been a safe place for those in power. perhaps rosenberg would be better to be speaking 'bout the theatre? *shrug* the theatre has frequent needed be subtle. the theatre has sometimes been subversive. the theatre, sadly, has been a tool of the State or wealthy patrons more often than not, but there is no question the theatre has also been brave, rude, crude, terrible and beautiful. we would weep if we genuine believed there were even a possibility the theatre would need become a safe place for those in power and am glad we live in an age and in a nation where performers can be so open and forthright. if the cast of hamilton offended beyond the pale, then people will stop going to see the show and their message will die. they took a risk. personally, am not believing pence deserved the treatment he received, but am indescribably proud o' an America where nobody is safe from ridicule in the theatre. not tyrants. not businessmen. not journalists. not saints. some will see what happened as evidence o' divisiveness. it is. is also proof o' freedom. thank God. thank America. ... btw, the writers o' hamilton need a history lesson. got the hero and villain largely reversed. HA! Good Fun! I have to say I have never heard the cast of a US theater making such a political statement so openly to a politician ? Has this happened before?
  3. He is quite hot ? volo Im glad you will never really have to live under a truly corrupt and brutal PM or president. In Africa there are countries where the citizens of those countries have known nothing for generations but grinding poverty, they dont expect anything from there governments because they have never really seen a quality of life or delivery of services for decades You should be very grateful for Trudeau, he is a very good PM
  4. I'd say if people are gullible enough to take Breitbart at face value, that's on them and has nothing to do with "the mainstream media" or "the left". Fair enough. I would say that about all media. Assess the source. determine how trustworthy your source has been and compare it to other sources. I typically watch Fox news, which can be incredibly biased in some hours (as if CNN and MSNBC and BBC aren't), but I don't tend to take Breitbart "at face value." Likewise with most talk radio. (as an aside, I listen to music in the car rather than talk radio.) Of course I feel the same way about National Inquirer and that particular rag broke the entirely legitimate story about John Edwards. The source isn't as important as the information. If the information is good, the source shouldn't be the issue. I'm about ready to turn into a pumpkin, so maybe I'm not thinking this through properly. *shrug* We dont get Fox news in South Africa but when I travel to the USA I do try to watch it. Its exactly what many people think it is, its aligned to the traditional Republican view of the USA and represents conservative views. There is nothing wrong with that in most cases , its the same as other left wing news channels Some of the commentary IMO is biased and some of it is objective. End of the day people need to analyze news stories and decide as impartially as possible what is true. I would just encourage people to consider watching other channels sometimes just so you are aware there will be other perspectives I watch CNN, Sky, BBC. Al-jazeera and Bloomberg so I try to get varied view of global events
  5. It does concern me that some people think Milo and Breitbart offer real insights into the news and social events that other forms of media dont have or refuse to discuss One of the outcomes of this is actually an uninformed electorate who lack critical thinking. We saw aspects of this in the US elections where many Trump supporters simply refused to question anything Trump said and rejected anything from the numerous mainstream media sources The good news in the case of this US election is that Trump didnt mean most of his most controversial comments so people blindly believing what he said and voting for him wont lead to a potential political or economic crisis in the USA But another Western country, another leader who follows the same rhetoric you could quite possibly see someone who gets elected and really tries to deport "11 million Latinos " Bruce I think you are still not seeing the point I was trying to make earlier. Nothing that was wrong with Trump made Hillary Clinton a better option for the folks who voted for him. For the 95 million Americans out of work Trump might lead to something bad, or he might not. But Clinton definitely led nowhere. The best case was more of the same. And that means no work and no hope. I do see the point, the post I made has nothing to do with Hillary or trying to justify her loss She wasn't the right candidate and she wasn't the right woman to be the first women president in the USA. She was distrusted by many people and if people in a country like the USA don't believe a candidate has any integrity or that she is fundamentally mendacious then that candidate cannot hope to be president Her own historical base didnt fully support her, only 51 % of college educated women voted for her. Some people on this forum assume I am inexorably bias to Hilary but even I am not so arrogant to now defend someone unnecessarily when her own support base did not endorse her Trump was the better and stronger candidate, no argument from my side My point is simply that websites like Breitbart encourage a view that all other media is bias and that only they should be trusted to tell the truth Some people will believe this and unintentionally become manipulated by the right wing ideological views of a website like Breitbart. The sad part of this and the obvious irony is that now these people are really being subjected to a bias view of the news. And yet they truly believe now there understanding of events is " the truth " This interview with Milo summarizes where the real hyperbole and misinformation exists. The quote below highlights how much of what Breitbart says if critically analyzed will fail or reveal to be inconsistent " forced into a confusing set of contradictions Thursday on live television "

  7. I fervently hope the right in Europe steamrolls over the sycophants that have no respect for their individual culture. Each country there is a treasure, not something to be sacrificed in the name of multiculturalism. There wont be a cultural revival if the EU dissolves but there will be negative impact to the global economy and a hugely negative impact to each EU country's economy. It will be a disastrous outcome for the EU So rather hope for a stronger and more united EU, dont worry about individual culture because you currently have this in the EU. What you dont have in the EU is this so called "sovereignty " around certain laws but that doesn't mean you don't have individual culture
  8. Just like Brexit couldn't have happened and Trump couldn't have become president, right? No one likes a smartass alum But yes I was going to mention this as its true....but Elerond and I still dont think it will happen. The French election is not the same as the US election or why Brexit happened oh, you are right on one point. it is not the same as it is not bipolar. Le Pen will most likely win, but the question is, can she win with enough marigin, that will give her party autonomous rule, or will she need someone to coalition and thus go on compromise. I can assure you that French have had enough... this migrant crisis is just another thorng and probably a drop to spill the bucket. I mean, have you been in Calais recently? or worse, have you been in central Paris? it's a proverbial **** hole on the main streets as people are building camps there... the recent terror attacks in last year are also a point that is in favof of Le Pen, worse economic situation of "middle class" similarly to US and UK... the current generation of 30s is the first generation, which is actually less wealthy in terms of purchase power than their parents... and that's a recipe for a disaster... not only that, but also the fact that natives are in demographic slump and there is aging society stretching state's fund to intolerable margins. Is it really that bad, it sounds terrible ? That needs to be addressed, what is Le penn going to do in the outcome she does win? I haven't been to France for about 10 years ?
  9. That story made me laugh, its the type of thing that happens to me
  10. Just like Brexit couldn't have happened and Trump couldn't have become president, right? 11. I am too tired to have this argument ....you win for now But why would you think the EU collapsing is a good thing...can you name just 2 things? It will add Russia's, China's, Iran's, Saudi Arabia's, India's political, military and economical power. It will European's poorer. It will decrease USA's political and military power. So if one supports these things, then EU collapsing can be seen as good thing. But I don't see why France would want to leave EU as all the countries they don't like in the union seem to select governments that are against EU and are on path to leave the union. And Facebook should ban all fake news regardless of the source, so that journalists would again be forced to be journalists and write real news. Elerond this is another very accurate and well informed post Guys I hope everyone reads this, especially the last 2 paragraphs And for the record I doubt France will leave the EU because Le Penn wont come to power
  12. "ever think about how bad we had to **** up to create a world where robots taking all the jobs is somehow a bad thing?" All the time. It's a very bad thing under a sysyem where a small percentage effectively owns production and distribution with the rest being required to sell labor in some way for survival. KP can i ask you a different question and I was rude earlier so I apologize Are you proud to be a US citizen, this obviously has nothing to do with the other previous relevant issues you mentioned ?
  13. A poorly written article, from what I'm seeing. You being nice today? Its garbage and I would suggest people don't read it as its an insult to the intellectualism of any rationale person Oh wait I'm not suppose to be insulting any right wing articles or views for a week....okay this will be my last one for the next week
  14. I was just teasing you, I thought you worked for that wireless company? I was expecting you to get immediately annoyed and rectify my spurious comment But you are to comfortable and secure with who you are to get annoyed ...well played
  15. haha Comedy. The only true way to 'win' on the internet. Wear out everyone else and claim your victory. Yeah, there comes a time when you must admit you to take a break
  16. I am too tired to have this argument ....you win for now But why would you think the EU collapsing is a good thing...can you name just 2 things?
  17. I have been working this whole week till 2-3 am in the morning due to a major data extraction requirement It was for one of our main customers, a very prominent and international insurance corporation. Its finally complete but man I am tired now. They treat me well and they obviously pay well but sometimes I envy the jobs some of you guys have that aren't in corporate Hurlshot being a teacher, GD working on a farm for example .....it must be nice not worrying about corporate pressure Anyway I am taking off work today to relax and chill
  18. It's not only the US banking sector - they're like that all over the world. So what would you call the ongoing food gambling by banks if not parasitical? Food prices are going up to profit a few rich arseholes while those who already are beyond poor suffer hunger and the average laborer is facing a net-loss in purchasing parity (due to the same rising prices, obviously). All the while at the same time those producing the food are happily paid barely enough to survive or are heavily subsidised. And that's not even touching corporations laying off workers with no real reason beyond improving their stock values or doing the tax dodging game so states have less tax income and, well, of course, won't fix the loopholes but rather cut social support, in turn - yeah, negatively affecting the poor again. Oh, and nothing is being done about that becaue there are entire nations whose only raison d’être is to support tax dodging. Dividend et impera, as the saying goes. No, wait... The worst part about it all is that the left wing politicians - or those that should be the left at least, are doing nothing because they too profit. So right-wing populists are garnering votes by pretending to support the little man, while unabashed right wing politics have actually gotten us there in the first place. That, and the worker-betrayal of all labour parties among the Western nations. You guys in the EU need to start being concerned about France and Marie Le Penn....its unlikely but she may win and she is adamant she will get France to leave I hope she wont win, I cannot keep saying this as it gets tiresome but if France leaves France will suffer devastating economic consequences but the overall EU will also suffer and maybe even dissolve I hope this act of insanity is avoided but end of the day this is really about you guys affirming loyalty to the greatest trading block in the world, the EU works and it works well But if you really dont believe that, I can least say I did try to warn you
  19. Knock me over with a feather! For whatever reason, Ive never once considered that NA's would also be in Canada. Obviously things didn't go well in the US but whats the relationship with the Canadian government? Are there reservations in Canada too? It was a less hostile relationship for a long time, rather than running them off their land we signed treaties that limited them to their reserves. In the early 20th century though there was an effort to assimilate the native population. The children were put into schools where they attempted to strip them of their culture and make them "canadian" there was rampant physical and sexual abuse in these schools. Also, now many of the treaties have expired, resulting in ongoing negotiations for new treaties, as the lands that would need to be returned are kinda populated now or have privately owned resource developments. Do you do any outreach programs with minorities? Just from a cultural exposure perspective and I imagine it would be appreciated? volo whats your view on Canadian NA's ?
  20. But there is an issue with fake news and the reality is we should be grateful for Facebook for addressing this Until Trump won I would have been shocked by this post ...and obviously I would have felt obligated to explain to you that you cannot have such a negative view of a channel like CNN, its not that you not entitled to your own opinion but it would have seemed irrational for anyone living in the USA to criticize the media in such an unusual way But the Trump victory has taught me some humility, its not about what the majority of people in the US think about the media. Your view deserves to be respected because many people shared it and I may not agree but my candidate lost
  21. KP I have no reason to lie to you, I understand your view of the US corporations and how you perceive they treat the average citizen. You consider the US banking sector as callous and greedy. But to say they parasites is unfair ? Why is the banks fault for the reality of the American laborer.....can you honestly tell me you care about the average laborer? Anyway I dont want to come across as dismissive or lacking in empathy but if you really think the US economy is doomed then you should be able to produce links?
  22. KP again I find myself thoroughly disappointed by your anti-USA sentiment It would be different if this was post was at least accurate but its not. It reminds me of something that Serb political commentator would say, its basically rhetoric and hyperbole Please provide the links to support this radical view but its highly unlikely you will have more insight into the strength and sustainability of the US economy than people I know who currently work in Wall Street
  23. Oh here we go....I have to say this is a new low even for you in your surreptious attempts to undermine the USA Playing the old " the West is running out of children " conspiracy theory...Zora do you think anyone in the USA believes what you say ?
  24. That is also very inaccurate...how can you suggest I dont care about events or people ? " passive -aggressive " ? I cannot believe you are being serious, ask anyone who engages with me...ask GD or Meshugger or anyone else ...ask volo I have huge empathy for certain things and people, unless that is not how I come across which is unlikely but possible ?
  25. Your view that the West is in economic decline is horribly inaccurate ... Come on the Internet is easy to use ? http://howafrica.com/worlds-largest-economies-2016/
