  1. Gorthfuscious I have to say that is one of the most brilliant, informative and funny videos I have ever seen when it comes to discussing societal problems like racism. I am going to share it with people I know Are the people in the video part of the point he is intentionally making? For example does he really get beaten up and does he really throw that camera in the sea? I was amazed by the scene during Australian day where they run after that guy for " not showing the flag "...did that really happen?
  2. This may have been posted before but I love this video, we dont have bears in SA but I always wish I had a bear cub as a pet
  3. I can understand why you would raise this point, you believe that there is far too much attention on violence committed during some protests when in fact most protests are not violent. Ostensibly that is true but it also doesn't help or address the problems that are ongoing in certain US cities like Portland. And the violence and damage to property and people is real. Its societal impact and how ubiquitous the " violent protests " are get used by both the left and right to feed political aspirations with normal citizens caught in the middle But since most of us dont want another 4 years of Trump I am more concerned how his campaign will embellish this violence and use this to gain votes Trump is obviously going to focus on similar sentiment to what you expressed as an example of " Democrats dont care about anarchy and lawlessness .....Democrats hate oil .....Democrats hate God.....Democrats want to take away your guns " ( despite the fact a person could quite possibly not be a Democrat but share some of theses views in a constructive way ) Two things can be true at the same time in life and I honesty believe this applies to this general debate and we should call them out, so for example The majority of protests are not violent There is real violence committed by Antifa and other anarchist groups at some protests that needs to be dealt with effectively So in summary for people who have there livelihoods and lives directly impacted and irrevocably changed by violence in protests the last thing they want to hear is someone making a well meaning comment like " not all the protests are violent or disruptive " .....all this does is feed the Trump narrative of " the left dont care about lawlessness " and could add unintentional support to his campaign
  4. But there is a reality of being confronted by a violent mob on the roads and you in your car and you just want to get away due to an absolute fear of being harmed and or killed It happened to me once in SA during one of our violent protests, there were about 20 armed people in front of me and they were forcing cars off the road. I ignored this and drove off the road to avoid them and then joined the road later on about 100 meters further...I ended up damaging my car but I avoided harming anyone. But I doubt I would have stopped if someone jumped in front of me ...and this is about a fear of your own safety
  5. I think volo may be suggesting exactly that., the concern being I am sure you can be charged if you kill anyone ....in SA this crime is known as culpable homicide. In the USA I think its known as involuntary manslaughter? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culpable_homicide#:~:text=Culpable homicide is a categorisation of certain offences, how a particular jurisdiction has defined the offence.
  6. I decided to experiment yesterday with Spaghetti Bolognese, I used Pork mince instead of Beef and it was delicious Making meals like Bolognese is always a good idea because you can freeze extra mince and normally the mince I cook lasts for 2-3 days for other meals My " quick " Bolognese meal is easy Fry onions, garlic and mushrooms for about 4-7 minutes until onions are translucent Then add the Mince and brown it off for about 5 minutes Then add Tomato Puree and Tomato and Onion mix or other primary sauces ( I would also add Red Wine ) Reduce heat and slow cook for about 1 hour or so Add spices and additional flavors as you see fit
  7. Volo this is no way to encourage people to stop there cars for the protesters....in fact if the outcome is people get beaten to death for stopping there cars then maybe people SHOULDNT stop there cars
  8. How old is she, your niece is indeed prudent
  9. Antifa is definitely implicated in violence, looting and criminal behavior. The US authorities need to continue to arrest and hopefully prosecute people involved in this unacceptable anarchy .....what world do we want to live in or where we want younger generations to inherit where you allow police stations to be blatantly attacked https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/08/24/portland-protests-police-precinct-set-fire/3427950001/
  10. I dont think anyone guilty of certain capital crimes should be allowed to vote, you forfeit the honor and responsibility to vote if you commit certain deeds In SA we allow all prisoners to vote ....mass murderers, mass rapists , gang members responsible for multiple deaths ...you name it. I dont agree with it but its our law and I wish it will change https://www.thesouthafrican.com/news/elections-2019-prisoners-right-to-vote/
  11. I have just watched an excellent interview with Anthony Scaramucci, I admire him since he is one of the few initial " hardcore " Trump supporters who now admits he supported Trump in the beginning but has been very disappointed by the actual reality of the Trump presidency He comes across as candid and sincere
  12. https://news.yahoo.com/donald-trumps-sister-describes-us-041959271.html Another vituperative series of comments from another one of Trumps family, this time its his sister ....it was secretly recorded but that just adds more legitimacy to its general veracity I said this after the niece's comments but I would never say these types of things in public about anyone in my family in the way Trumps family has commented....things must be really bad
  13. Nice post and I agree with your general positive sentiment I havent been going on my walks over the last 2 months due to the cold and unfriendly winter conditions but I started this weekend again, its great to be exercising again. I am definitely unfit and need to lose about 3 kg but that will happen as I get back into regular cardio
  14. Sounds like a good idea, sometimes the simple things in life can be very rewarding and therapeutic
  15. http://strandloper.com/menu/ Now this is good deal which my Cpt family and I are going to participate in over the next few weeks or so, a 10 course seafood tasting menu that is only $20/person when you consider the exchange rate and that is very reasonable
  16. http://www.capetalk.co.za/articles/393528/pictures-best-flower-season-in-years-info-on-hotspots-routes-and-accommodation-deals Arguably the global lockdown has had one benefit, the proliferation of nature and animals as there is less pollution and humans encroaching on the general habitat of wildlife In Cape Town this year is going to be one of the best seasons for wild flowers and I am going to go and see this in the next few weeks
  17. I have just seen this and its big news, I am surprised Bannon would be so careless but lets see how it unfolds
  18. Most malls I go to are owned by property management companies which are often owned themselves by larger listed companies. And for all listed companies public perception matters so you should always consider the demographics in the local area to draw loyal people to your mall and what the majority of people appreciate during many religious holidays like Easter and Xmas
  19. I wouldnt go as far to say there is " a war on Christianity " but there are individual cases of bias and unreasonable legal outcomes against certain Christian values in countries where the majority of citizens are Christian. For example banning Xmas trees from malls during the festive season and the stopping of singing certain hymns in schools
  20. Yes but you have openly expressed support for a Trump victory because you want that outcome to continue to undermine the USA and or impact its important positive role in the world So your strange objective of somehow wanting the US to become worse off also tells me your criticism of Kamala can be ignored due to your open bias and lack of belief in wanting the US to get better Personally I feel your normal way of attempting to race bait and annoy white people with certain generalizations is more interesting and provoking because its commentary that I sometimes hear from others ....but this latest support of a Trump victory and suggesting that Kamala is a terrible choice is not convincing at all ?
  21. I appreciate you responding because my question is a real one and in each country that grapples with examples of discrimination there will be different policies and ways to make things better And I am always interested when it comes to a country like the USA what are the suggestions from people who raise BLM issues what they are practically expecting to change or be addressed. And I think this is a harder objective purely because there will be different views on this which can be a valid reason for apparent lack of consensus or action Interestingly enough your view about how the US police force is overall a problem is echoed by many Americans I have asked this question to, not just on this forum but people I sometimes work with are who based in the USA but they are normally involved in a product escalation perspective which means you may not have any time or appropriate time to start talking politics. But sometimes I will engage with the same person for weeks and you have many Teams sessions and you dont always need to discuss work So last night I was chatting to such a person who is based in Florida. I like this guy, he is typical of most people I deal with at this level who are normally based in the USA. He has extensive experience with numerous products and understands many financial and banking systems which makes his knowledge very relevant Anyway I started a discussion with him that was optional around US politics and we ended up chatting for close to 90 minutes around the current state of the USA. He was very happy to share his reasonable view of things and I learnt several new things but he also specifically mentioned his low opinion of the way the US police operates or is trained ....so the general negative view of the US police is more wide spread than I would have guessed Personally I dont believe it is necessary or helpful to vilify the entire US police force as this assumes that the whole police force is part of the problem which I dont believe but I respect the opinions of citizens who live in the actual country and in this case the concern cannot be just ignored or dismissed entirely as a " generalization " which sometimes on certain topics many people believe but its doesnt make it a real systemic problem that can or should be changed So for example the general negative opinion people have of the financial sector is sometimes unfair and assumes banks dont learn from past mistakes and or criminal activity
  22. Im funny like that, I have never play tested or been part of any early trial phase of any game because it would ruin the excitement when I play the game after the first major update And when it comes to such a highly anticipated game like BG3 I dont want to create any unnecessary negativity I may feel is normal in a early trial ...but I do appreciate the effort some gamers put in around the important task of reporting bugs and ultimately making the game more stable for people like me
  23. Happy Birthday, I didnt realize you are a fellow Leo Malc you know its now been scientifically proven that Leo are the best star signs.....you lucky fish being born into privilege
  24. It shouldn't be referred to as normal revolutionary movement because normally that word is used to describe movements that has clear goals that mattered to the people involved, these goals can normally be articulated and are consistent even if other people dont agree and most of the time modern day revolutionary movements do have quantifiable and achievable objectives BLM is at its core well meaning and has several objectives I support and I understand why some people feel unfairly discriminated against in certain examples . But I wont put Antifa in the BLM group because I believe they ultimately add to the overall lack of social cohesion in the USA and also they dont help with real meaningful debate about issues that require forms of normal etiquette and people actually wanting to debate ....but Antifa is not required to be part of any meaningful dialogue so there views should not dismiss the positive aspects of any discussion around social issues in the USA But if you consider the BLM core objectives they not really things you can implement in any normal revolutionary movement, for example any objective must be able to be actually implemented legally or through a societal change. BLM has many objectives but the common goals are normally about comments around " police must stop killing African Americans " and we must end the reality of " systemic racism " that seems to come across as only existing in Western countries which are all first world countries and have a history of people coming from Europe hundreds of years ago. And in many cases the early settlers did not always consider indigenous people as having valid rights to land and resources....so its silly to ignore the harm done by the arrival of Europeans in certain ways. But things have changed a lot since then in all countries and it isnt going to improve the reality of minorities and address inequality if you suggest that abuse implemented hundreds of years ago is the reason we still see most social issues raised or because a society was historically created on the foundation of injustice it means the society nowadays is deeply flawed and or racist ....there are other reasons that just dont get addressed or rather there a failures of policy sometimes But in the context of SA for example sometimes activists raise Colonialism and Apartheid as the primary reasons we have numerous failures in transformation and the current and much more pressing reasons get ignored And finally I have to add because it gets brought up by some BLM commentators that there interpretation of how to solve certain valid examples of discrimination is where they basically generalize about all white people and our own understanding of racism in a way that is condescending and is even sometimes based on a view that white people are ignorant and need to be educated to understand how or what offensive comments are.....and then this is justified by examples of real racist comments or people being ignorant about normal reasonable goals to address discrimination And yet this is not the views of many white people who do understand the historical reality of there countries and support changes that make sense where applicable Interesting introspective question to ask yourself, if you believe that systemic racism is the common and entrenched reason for many of the BLM goals what should change in your respective country legally to reduce this problem....because the obvious challenge is you cant legislate how people think or how they view certain developments For me the problems around inequality and discrimination in most first world countries dont exist primarily because of factors like systemic racism but rather economic realities and certain failures and implementation of policies that are well meaning but can be abused. Also people sometimes make choices around education and that can definitely impact there ability to be part of any growing economy And of course sometimes things can be clearly about discrimination but this is not the main cause of outcomes we see
  25. This is prudent, I dont mind waiting another 6-8 months if the success of the overall gaming experience requires it
