Skarpie, I hear what you saying but the USA legal system definitely use to have a seriously well meaning but unbalanced and problematic way of enforcing real jail time and trying to enforce drug control I wont post links but in summary , people could be sent to jail for possession of cannabis. African american communities would be at times specifically targeted in the interests of arrest quotas in certain places , yes the police were doing there job but you cant think possession of cannabis means jail time. So in other words someone who is simply smoking weed gets sent to jail where they probably will end up becoming a serious criminal Its not effective and its not fair. We not suggesting hard core criminals get a pass but you only make things worse when you end up creating criminals for someone using cannabis, thats one reason why legalization of cannabis is so common nowadays. I hope this makes sense

I watched Borat late night again, the first time I watched it was when it was first released in 2006. It must be one of the funniest movies I have ever seen because now I understand the parody and various tropes he highlights as the fictional character " Borat " His interview with the feminists and the speech at the Virginia rodeo was hilarious, I was reading up how many people tried to sue him and the production company after the movie was made but almost all cases were dismissed. I almost loved his constant and intentionally fabricated " ism's " , you name it he demonstrated it, and how people responded Sacha Baron Cohen is a genius and the movie is a must watch if you havent seen it

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-49053383 More provocative actions from Iran as it seizes a UK tanker for unnecessary reasons....Iran doesnt seem to understand its precarious reality in any military conflict

Its not and it never has been, Sarex and some other Serbs have never accepted any responsibility for there countries war crimes in the conflicts in the Balkans . He will tell you that Serbs have been unfairly targeted but they weren't. Both the Croats and the Bosniaks have citizens also facing war crimes but Serbia does have the most people at the Hague because proportionately they committed the most war crimes. This should be something that people just accept as a bad time in there countries history and move on, its not a negative reflection on Serbia nowadays but trying to deny history is unhelpful https://www.juridipedia.com/NL/The-Hague/213571248658853/International-Criminal-Tribunal-for-the-former-Yugoslavia---ICTY https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Criminal_Tribunal_for_the_former_Yugoslavia It reminds me of criticism from certain African dictators and leaders who committed egregious war crimes and human rights abuses and now undermine the ICC and claim " its a Western tool to prosecute African leaders " when in fact it provides a way to prosecute people who cant be charged in certain African countries because these countries simply dont have the institutions or resources to effectively do it

But GD you seeing this in binary choices and its not, Biden for example is not extreme left.....you could vote for him considering the alternatives?

Friedman is often on CNN where he is one of my favorite, insightful and logical political commentators. He also offers very honest and critical views on Netanyahu and has written several books I agree with most of what he says as usual but not his view on Biden as I still believe he will come out as the final and most reasonable Democratic candidate in 2020

This post made me laugh, I agree. In some debates and in some public forums " it becomes a race to race to see who can....play the race card " ...now that is an example of tautology for those who have wondered when that word can be used appropriately

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-says-progressive-congresswomen-should-go-back-where-they-came-n1029676 Im sure most people are aware of this latest Trump story where he said 4 congresswomen must " go back where they came from " My question is do you think its racist? I am not sure, its uninformed, unnecessary and offensive but I'm unclear if its racist. I also think its typical Trump strategy to create a distraction so the Democrats and his base can focus on that so other major events get less attention...like Mueller testifying tomorrow Another reason Im unclear about whether its racist is because of the general playing of the race card I see nowadays as an immediate response to certain comments so unless its blatant or usage of derogatory words I prefer to wait and see the outcomes. CNN is calling it as definitely racist but they dont always get everything 100 % right in the sense sometimes there commentators all have the same opinion of a particular topic, so you wont always get a balanced view. This is normal with most international news channel

You make a good point, the budgets would be greater and therefore require a larger and consistent audience

I started watching Nightflyers and Im really enjoying it, I did some reading up on it and noticed it was cancelled after 1 season It made me wonder why do so many good Sci-fi series only get through 1 season and then get cancelled? Why aren't these types of series popular...most of us enjoy them and Im sure we representative of a broader audience?

....I love it when you crack jokes on this forum Zora, sometimes levity breaks the ostensibly serious nature of political debates You cant possibly expect anyone but a Christian\Roman Catholic to become president in the USA, it has nothing to do with reasonableness or intolerance and this applies to all countries outside the USA where you have a religious demographic majority. For example you wont ever see a Christian ruling any Muslim country or India for that matter and thats okay, its what we would expect to see. A person from a minority religion in the majority of countries can become a mayor or a politician but not the president Personally I would vote for an atheist or agnostic but for many people, considering how many legitimate factors are normally and or automatically dichotomous in politics,to suggest someone who is not Christian\Roman Catholic would ever become USA president is just a pipe dream As I have said before when I see Christians elected to govern countries where they are the minority then I would concede this may be achievable in some Western Democracies

Trump has recreated the fault lines in the current USA discourse and political narrative. He has created a binary choice for all Republican politicians, " either you with me or you against me " .....if you aren't with him you effectively swept aside into political obscurity. For me many Republicans who use to criticize him during the 2016 election but now support him aren't practicing hypocrisy but prudent political expediency and survival . It has worked for Trump so far and the Republican party is publicly united behind him in most areas. So they present a formidable adversary for the Democrats in 2020 The next question for the Democrats is " how do we beat Trump and who is the best candidate ", this is obviously early days before 2020 and these answers will change as time goes on. Saying all that if I was a Democratic strategist I would be very worried so far as the Democratic party is not united ideologically or around policy. For example you have these extreme policy suggestions like " free Medicare for all " and " we shouldn't prosecute anyone who crosses the borders illegally ". As I have mentioned before I see far too many new candidates who push unsustainable and or unrealistic left wing socialist policies that dont reflect what most reasonable Western Democracies would necessarily accept ...so why try do it in the USA? At the moment Biden is the best Democratic candidate for me so unless the Democrats, and especially all there supporters, can unite behind the right candidate for 2020 then Trump will win again

I just watched an excellent movie called The Man with the Iron Heart which is about the assassination of the Nazi leader Reinhard Heydrich in Prague during WW2, its obviously based on a true story and you cannot but admire the bravery and fortitude of the Czech partisans who fought against the Nazi's

England won, yaaaaaaaaaay.....I dont think I have ever watched game that was so close with the super over. Unbelievable England has never won a WC before
-
What an exciting final, they tied so now they have a super over to see who hits the most boundaries....its very unusual to tie so Im 100 % sure how the super over works
-
Guys the final for the Cricket World Cup is on. Its New Zealand vs England and England really could win, they need 72 from 60 balls which is very achievable and they on 170/4 For those that dont follow cricket we obviously must support England...we dont want NZ to win.

Would burning it illegally be considered disrespectful in Finland ?

I have had a good and relaxing weekend, I had to work yesterday for most of the day and today Im doing some documentation and customers pipeline updates for 2 hours or so I also cooked some mince for weekly lunch, watched various news channels and some entertaining series on Showmax and Netflix. Monday is looking good from a work perspective

I dont see how your post is similar to people burning a flag in the interests of a protest or around some utterly illogical objective of civil disorder? How are they similar, what am I missing?

I was actively encouraged by my family in CPT to not give money to beggars because it perpetuates the problem, I am not sure I agree with that view as when I lived in JHB I would often give money to people who approached me in my car at traffic lights. But in CPT its more about people wanting money when you walk past them and they tend to follow you But I do give money to people who perform in the streets and play musical instruments because I respect there skill and creativity. So I support the principle of buskers
-
This is also a reality in CPT, there are certain prudent rules in these shelters and some homeless refuse to abide by them. I dont think its a majority but I know for some they simply chose to not be told what to do around not drinking or taking drugs

Good correction to my earlier comment , I didn't read the article properly and it wasn't the USA flag that was vandalized I am not sure if you can burn the SA flag legally, I honestly cannot recall ever hearing about it in the history of the new SA since 1994 . I do consider flag burning by citizens in a Democracy as extremely unpatriotic and it should be criticized but I am not sure how you would or should criminalize it
