D&D: Does Obsidian 'ave an interest?
Drakron replied to Sargallath Abraxium's topic in Obsidian General
BioWare lost their mind on that one .... well not only on that one. Kensai was a 2nd ed kit, Forgotten Realms was liked to Kara-tur that was a oriental setting but Kara-tur never made it far. I supposed it was possible since Candlekeep could have the writtings to launch someone on that kit, it was very unlikely. Problem with the Kensai was that people dual classed into a mage and had the best of worlds, it was a broken class because of that. You know what I liked on BIS games, class and item placement was always well done as BioWare never done a good job, continue to taking BG2 as a example there were too many great single hands weapon making the dual wield route too good to be ignored and there was no conter balance of two handed weapons or shields and that is why most people end up having dual wielding characters in BG2. Everyone remenber the "why Bio, why" rant about thieves and dual wield but one thing Karzak was right, there was no good shield for a thief to use, that was great oversight that ToB could have, at least, corrected but did noit. From a rule point of view I enjoyed IWD series more that BG series, IWD2 was far better that NwN in most parts. -
D&D: Does Obsidian 'ave an interest?

True, besides you dont need to look further that BG2 Kensai implementation to see at a bad idea would be to allow people to run D&D as they see fit. Besides as said, its not Wizards fault but HAsbro fault. Personaly I would like a Lengend of the five Rings game far more that a D&D game. -

Deekin is as funny as as Jar Jar ... 5 minutes after he start talking I start hacking. -
Yep, mini disks. Of course PS1 uses CDs, almost all the next generation (Dreamcast,PS2,Xbox) use DVDs, one of CG failures was the nini disk format when everyone was using DVD. DVD format allow no swapping of disk and more data storage space and that is why its used.

True. I remenber Helge back in BIS forums that managed to push my "I want to rip that person a part just by the fact it exists" button ... I did not just disliked him, I Hate him as much I can possibly hate someone. Fortunatly I had him on my ignore list before he made to be a mod (thank to the "friendly" system implemented back then) and so I was excused from reading his posts.

Games are not LUXURY items, they are entertaiment. There is a disparity of prices, if food was all sold at the same price world wide people would have starved to death.

When can you tell us what Project X is?

A known Xbox joke is always saying "the Xbox have HALO" when comparing system games since it was their only good game for a long time. Still they have not improved on hat department, the big issue with Xbox failures is hat it failed to attract the main console market (JPN area) and so the power of the console market (eastern developers) sticked with the PS2 and CG that to face domestic poor sales with the Xbox. Only thing that the Xbox atracted was western PC developers to make console games but that is a dead end. Worst was games that were made fit for the Xbox, western idea of console is those are for "kids" and so they simplfy then ... take Morrowind that did not gone that way and its a solid PC game and come compare with DeusEx 2 that simpled many things for god knows that reason. The fact SWkotOR interface just feels like a console interface says a lot and when I am in the equipment screen I tend to try using mouse drag that is not implemented. If project X is a console game lets see if the PC version is not a port, SWkotOR is a port, perhaps it was not intended as a port but that is what it is. -
Diference Grommir ... diference. A test drive is the same as a demo, we test the product. Many games offer a demo, its common that we can rent console games. We cannot rent PC games (well not legaly under EULA terms) and so we cannot do a "test drive". Also "not buying" just have a rather odd effect, the music industry simply raise prices and blamed file sharing programs (besides piracy) and games are still entertiament ... since entertaiment industr wil raise prices and blame something except to change their own policies we can guess what would happen if we dont buy games without demos and publishers tend to push into the creation of demos.

Well I do think E-mail notices work better, not I would be aware of notices E-mailed to me since I tend to never look at my E-mail account. Best option would be a ignore mods and even ignore PMs from mods but having a "special account" that PMs from then could not be ignore, I dont think that mods sould be giving warnings in the first place since that duty sould be handle by adminstators. And ignoring moderators is a good thing, expecialy with fan mods were I am forced to read their opinion posts, like it or not.
-
I would agree .... Except Ignore also blocks PMs from people in the ignore list.

Many Hentai games dont have that. Hentai games usually follow what is "normal" sexual fantasies and themes for example usually there is a women that have been in love with the main character since they were kids. And its true usually its with women on the 15-17 age range, even when translated into english they turn then into 17-19 age. P.S. I dont recall ever playing a Hentai game with rape tentacle monsters,, I have seen some with "rape" scenes (Tokimeki Check in comes to mind) but its not common and as for animals ... the ones that comes close to it was "True Love" with the angel women when she was in half-human/half cat body or the Mermaid of "Nocturnal Illusion".

Europe console games being higher is due to royalities since the european publishers also have a cut and so drive price highers. iAnother thing to look into, Amazon and other online shops tend to cut prices ... look at FF X-2 that is not out yet and Amazon.uk is selling at 29.99 when the store prince will be 39.99. Now that means I could be buy it for 44.3972 + vat + ports with I doubt will put the game in the 65 euros mark.

Developers, yes. Publishers, no. I liked Origin a lot but when EA assimilated Origin only thing left was UO. Publishers are only as good as the games they sell, EA force power is their massive distibution network ... their ability to put a game on the market worldwide is rather impresive. But tech support and how they handle affiliated companies is a disaster, anything that comes under EA became assimilated and the staff assigned to "big sellers" (The Sims, UO, FIFA) and the rest abandoned ... EA dismantle then and puter their IP in a vault "just in case" (like Wing Commander recently). Publishers are trhe ones that scream "bloody muder" with piracy, devopers usually dont have as must to gain as publishers. It resumes to one word ... profit.

Well Grommir in some countries games are really expensive ... some cost half a salary. Nobody needs games to live but the back market is already set in place and its consider "normal" to get it there. Take this as a example, a Game Cube costs 99 euros but Game Cube games cost around 65 euros so justing buying two CG games costs more that a GC. Look at the music market, piracy gone up since labels to "cover costs due to piracy" raise prices with is BS, when file sharing programs became common music got a boost in sales since price was decent and what music industry did? They raised prices to get more money and so sales drop and what they blamed? File sharing programs. a computer game is entertaiment at a relative afordable price but that is not the reality in some parts of the world and so they turn to what is a afordable, black market. And another thing, most people download stuff because there is no demo and games today are tend to be short and forgetable, even 45 euros is a sizable investiment for first world countries and people either take "word on the street" or simply find a way to try the game and so "piracy" but if they like it they will buy it ... of course industry wants for us to consume, the idea of making quality games gone down the drain a long time ago with the major publishers.

Well ... is OE going to break convenctions and make a western hentai game? I hope so.

It was some time ago but remenber those are sales factors, they dont account replacement (Xbox appears to have a real bad and if your Xbox is damaged you getter off buying a new one that trying to get fixed from what I heard, same goes to early PS2 that dont stant to the recent ones that have improvements) and its hard to factor people that buy it as a offer and the other just use it for playing DVD movies. Also its dificult because to really know since Xbox and GameCube were having a little war and each made claims, also PS2 released the Silver edition and I dont think there are substancial changes over market share, also I doubt there were major changes in the JPN area share with still is the key area, Euro and NA markets are still a shadow of what JPN area is. Funny thing, HALO PC is popular in JPN with people paying a lot for the local version but Xbox sales were a disaster even with HALO being a Xbox launch game. -

Well that does not look to be too hard, Xbox have few games releases compared with the PS2. PS2 have the blunt of the console publishers since 70% of maket means even if they sell to 20% of the PS2 market they will likely sell more that if they did it for Xbox, also PS2 stronghold is Japan were Xbox have a pitful presense and japan is the centerpoint of the console market (I want a mosquito simulators damn it). Also a PC game that sells 2 million copies can be considered a success depite that 2 million PC must not be even 10% of the PC in existence but I dont think even 50% of PCs are used in "home applications". Oh and Xbox just brought up a "time exclusive" for Splinter Cell, Pandora ... shows a lot does it not? -

Well nothing stop Morrowind having two expansions, only Morrowind GOTY bring those to the Xbox. JK sales are PC, DF2:JK created a online community and the series sells more to the multiplayer aspect that anything else. Publishers dont give a crap about "being fair", they want money and I have yet to see a expancion for a Xbox game, the (IMHO) problem with the Xbox was that instead of building a afordable "PC lite" they build "yet another console" and as Sega had proven having a technological superior machine does not make it better for the publishers, a lot we see of Xbox "success" is MS pushing money behind it, it does not stand with his own two legs is MS try to made it. Look at the next Splinter Cell game were UbiSoft will not longer made it a "limited XBox exclusive" and will put all versions out in the same day. And no bets, I dont care if SWKotOR 2 is project X or not, I just serious doubt it. -
From what I seen most Xbox games treat the players as if they have a single digit I.Q. (Of course reading some replies of Xbox players also gives that impression to me) I do blame the Xbox for the "dumb down" design of SWKotOR, the fact it included the stuoid idea of mini games makes the game being a console RPG and not a PC RPG, PC RPGs are more complex that console RPGs.
-
I agree to some degree ... Fallout system was not without problems and what really hurt SWKotOR was the "Xbox dumb down" of the d20 rules, the force power system was completly wrong for the Star Wars universe and shown there was some rush job in there (Sentinel class is a example).
-
Starting as a Jedi requires a diferent starting of the game, I dont think its a good idea to force people down that path again. The option sould have been given at the start, like Morrowind does with interacting with NPCs and have the character generation not at start of the game but after interacting with NPCs. Also I think the reason most people dislike not starting as a jedi is that BioWare implementation of force powers penalized late multiclassing, personaly I hope the next RPG set in Star Wars does a better job, like we pick force feats that unlock force powers.

What view would you like in Project X?

Yes, but then we have Temple of Elemental Evil that looked pretty good. NwN titlesets are ... uninspired.
