  1. Have they done it already? Also- just remembered they put up a counter. Still going to check the site obsessively though
  2. So everybody remember, when you get to work tomorrow, (or wherever) to keep refreshing the web page every 20 seconds or so (every 10 for real fans). You wouldn't want to miss anything. But seriously, I'll probably check the forums and stuff every 20 minutes.
  3. i'm really interested in it. If i remember correctly, pillars is an approximation of the 16th century. In the medditeranian at that time (certainly not a frontier, but still the haunt of pirates and privateers), there were some really interesting naval battles between the ottomans and the catholic leauge. The battle of leppanto was a big galley ship fight, (miguel de cervantes was there), and the siege of malta and rhodes were interesting episodes in the history. Love to see some of that played out in a fictional setting add in Venice and their history (directing the crusade against Constantinople instead of the holy land, their uneasy relationship with the Ottomans), plus the barbary pirates, and i think there is a wealth of insipiration to create a really interesting political scenario to accompany the god-quest story so central to POE. Not to try and turn this into a speculation thread, which i'm sure will open after the 26th, but I'm very hopeful Obsidian will build up the political/economic conflicts as a central piece of this one.
  4. seems to me Obsidian is building something similar to what Black Sails is doing (and i'm basing this solely on the teaser-- 'if you don't like our methods...-- a powerful chartered guild or company (like the Valian Trading Company) is going into Deadfire and attempting to set trade routes/monopolize some resource. you're choice will be do you support the chaotic Deadfire natives, or do you side with the authoritarian yet cruel corporate interest. Then of course, there will be whatever god-level quest you're set on running concurrently. All sounds very interesting. It's been pretty common in television recently- Westworld, Black Sails, Frontier, are all shows about the freedom of the frontier, with it's dangers and pleasures and interesting personalities, vs the order and structure of civilization. one thing too- there is the line about the luminous- I was playing through Cliaban Rilag last night, and there is a room with a bunch of eggs in the bottom corner of the map. If you hit the magnified glass, it uses the world 'luminous'. perhaps that is the luminous referred to.
  5. is there a way to learn them? i was looking a the wikipedia and it lists recipes for Bash and Rending, and all the other awesome enchantments, but the only ones i can use are superior/fine/etc.... anybody know where i can learn more? or if it's even possible?
  6. i wanted to try a rogue or fighter who single wields rapiers and uses pistols, but that seems like a very underwhelming character, especially vs high DR baddies. so, question- anyone incorperating single wield into your builds, and if so, how?
  7. i just finished a playthrough on normal with a high defense rogue and i loved it. i was 15/10/12/14/10/14, i think, and i dual wielded in aloths leather jacket and then with scale mail. it was awesome. I still hit hard, but i could take a little punishment, which was nice. i grabbed the modal cautious attack and threw it on when i got into trouble. otherwise, one shot of the blunderbuss then hacking away with my double sabers. ---main thing i liked was that i wasn't totally dependent on the tank. with my per encounter attacks, i could stiil outhit most everyone also, best companion for a rogue is grieving mother with for the eye strike and lvl1 knock down. you'll tear through all but the toughest fights.
  8. i'd heard there is one in the bleak meadow. Can anyone verify? or tell me where else i might find one early on, so i can blow the heads off my foes before they even know i'm there. I need that, you know.
  9. most dps is the result o' talents, abilities, and weapon choices. Gromnir has played a few different rogue builds in the beta and now in poe and we will once again state what should eventual become obvious: the attribute scores are not as important as most folks believe. our favorite rogue build has 18 perception and 16 resolve, and it ain't a defensive rogue whatsoever. our rogue does serious damage regardless o' whether we make him 2h or dual wield. am not feeling gimped at all. however, because o' the reckless assault bug, we cannot speak to the potential o' a defensive rogue. so far we ain't tried to go full defense and currently our two poe (non beta) rogue builds got -16 deflection penalty from reckless assault due to a bug, so am a bit more vulnerable than we should be. HA! Good Fun! ps we do have a cautious attack dual-wielding hatchet rogue with the +10 ring o' deflection that at level 12 has 102 deflection, riposte and the talent that converts 50% o' grazes to misses. is not as if such a character could tank, but it were not exactly a glass cannon either... still did very respectable damage. granted you don't place primacy on attribute spread, what spread do you use with the 18 perception, 16 resolve rogue.? i would assume your using the plus damage talents, reckless assault and bloody slaughter. anything else key to that build?
  10. at what attribute value does deflection become reasonable on a rogue (or any other average deflection class)? i was thinking about building a rogue with a high deflection. i want him to handle to mid line, so he'd open with pistol/blunderbuss, then pick up anything that gets passed the tank. Aside from that, he'd flank and engage single opponents. He'd be light to medium armor, (more light, my first guy used Aloth's leather bc i like the look) that's the concept, I know it's not as powerful as the glass cannon approach, but i would still like to try it. without suggesting a shield, does anyone have any suggestions on this build? thanks in advance.
  11. i assume this was discussed, but i can't find it. Can anyone share a link or explain why OE decided to go with the way they did? I know it's too late to implement this, but i'd love to see this feature in either a mod or a patch/expansion. Rolling characters, while ponderous, was also strangely rewarding. Especially if you don't alter values or only alter a point or two. I think rolling stats could allow for some interesting builds, where a character who would not touch a certain stat normally, lucks out and gets a high roll that could open up new dialouge, etc.
  12. 1. ranged/melee hybrid 2. ranged has some roots/ DOT effects 3. in melee, you deal damage similar to (but less than) a rogue 4. resting with a ranger in your party grants you a small bonus, similar to resting in an inn (bc they are outdoorsman) 5. increase movement speed, similar to the barb bonuses to stealth and athletics i'd also love to see class talents that allow for limited tanking. Say, for 10 seconds you're Deflection is increased by a significant amount. in summation, versatility should be the core concept of the ranger. They are a damage class that can, for short periods, fill the tanking role, and they are strongest when they are able to start at range, then shift to melee. i played Neverwinter a bit, recently, and they did something like this with the Hunter Ranger class... anyways, that's what i'd love to see.
  13. would a elder scrolls game be too big a shock? Bethesda gave obsidian the rights to make Fallout New Vegas, and the game sold well. i doubt they would get to make elder scrolls 6, but maybe they would get to remake daggerfall, or something similar.
  14. have loved the game....The Brayko boss fight is about the most original thing ive seen in video games in years....the song is perfect and he does cocaine as a buff, hah. fall of the wall, fascination with US culture post cold war, great character, things like this make obsidian great....well played, really hope we get an AP2
  15. max brilliance, stealth to shadow operative at 12 seconds, sabatoge high and pistols to chain shot 5 or 6 and you are unstopable, bosses become an absolute joke...also you can sneak past baddies without much trouble...you need nothing else though i do like to get martial arts up there because it is prerequiste for a bad ass spy
